If not able to call right away, for the promotion, tomorrow....

I saw somewhere that last time, the website opened for the general pop promotion at midnight... and, i've read that the phone lines open at 7am.

I have my existing reservation at rack rate and want to try to get the promotion - and, if I'm not sure I'll be able to call in right at 7am (and assuming the website offers the promotion at midnight and I could get on the website at midnight) - is it worth it to book a new reservation at midnight to be sure that I have a reservation at the promotional rate?? And, then cancel my prior reservation?

What are the pitfalls of doing this? If it is even possible...

thanks!!!

I did the same thing for the fall promotion. The only real pit fall is that you have to put up a second deposit and wait for a refund on the first one once you get around to calling to cancel. I felt a little bad for doing it after the fact because so many people were on hold for hours and there were a few accusations that those of us that held double reservations were some how messing up their chances of getting a discounted room. For our spring trip I didn't make a reservation until the Disney Visa offer was available to avoid the moral dilemma. :goodvibes

Thank you for your input! I hadn't thought about it that way ... I'm hoping I will be able to call in first thing tomorrow morning, and it will be a moot point - but, thought I'd ask the question just in case...

As far as moral dilemmas ... is it wrong that I have no issue going in to work late, to call in the AM? lol

There is zero moral dilemma, in my opinion. You did what you needed to do within Disney's system. If people wanted to go online at midnight instead of calling at 7am, the same option was available to them. I understand the frustration at not getting what you wanted, but that's no reason to take it out on the people that do. It's the same thing with ADRs. It's the byproduct of a ridiculous system. Blame the system, not the people who work within it.

If you don't have an issue with putting down another deposit, I'd probably would make a second reservation, and then cancel the original one.

Note that if your original one was for a package and you had tickets, these would have been under the old price structure, and the new reservation would be under the new price structure. If so, you could call later and have guest services 'combine' the two reservations - that is, apply the new discount to the original reservation. Then they will cancel the new one and refund you or transfer the amount and apply it to the old reservation.

I recently did this. I had booked FD with a PIN for December at CSR. Then we needed to get a room for 5 (another person was coming) so the most cost effective option was to move to POR. But no availability there. Then one late night at 1am I was able to catch a room at POR under FD. So I made a new reservation. But instead of canceling the old one, I called and had them combine - reason was about $200 difference in the ticket prices. Took a good couple of hours on the phone but was done...

Disney has a set number of rooms for the discounts. Your first reservation was not made for this discount so it was not taking up anyone elses availability for a discount.

Looks like I'll be able to call in the am (not looking forward to the long wait... but, it will be worth it), but it is good to hear different thoughts as well!! Thanks to all who took the time to chime in!!!
