Damn so many high and mighty people on these boards! OP, I would be pissed off too. You don't expect 5-star service, but you DO expect them to do their job and not putz around ignoring customers. I doubt she had been cutting hair for hours and hours straight without a single break....she should have helped the customers, earned her tips, THEN took a break. And I'm pretty sure Florida doesn't have a law requiring breaks for adults. Her actions are probably exactly why she's working at a strip mall salon and not a nicer place.
You're right about Florida not requiring breaks. I would have been a little irritated too, but not as irritated as the OP. She'll get over getting that upset when she gets a little older.

I actually DO think you were right in so far as you left the salon when you realized the service was not up to your standards (and gave your business to someone else). I think you are right that whoever does the scheduling should have had more people there. t.

I bet they were short staffed due to the flu going around.

Good point:thumbsup2 It is very possible this time of year that it as simply impossible to get enough people in to work. I would much rather wait for a looooong time than have a hair dresser who is being forced to work with the flu breathing on me while s/he does my hair.

Also one thing i just realised is that I DON'T HAVE TO EXPLANE MY SELF TO YOU GUYS! you where not there when it happened.

With all due respect, yes you do. You brought it up, it's your topic. Here's a tip, for real (and a lot of people don't get this; it's not just you): when you post something to a huge public internet forum, you need to fully expect to receive replies and opinions that do not necessarily agree with yours. That's just the way it works. You're right, people wouldn't tell you this in real life ("to your face"). It's different with the internet - in fact that is the beauty of it. If I want someone to tell me what I want to hear, I talk to people's faces. If I want honest, sometimes harshly-honest, feedback, I go online. Both are different; both are good.

Just because Florida might not require adults to take breaks, doesn't mean the salon doesn't have rules of their own saying the stylists are required to take breaks. I have worked at places like that in the past and if we didn't take breaks even though it wasn't required by law we were at risk of being fired.

Where the heck do you guys go that its OK to vanish for 20 minutes without clueing in the customers?

Anywhere that I've gone, the hairstylists would have told us not only that she was going on break, but also (gasp!) how many people were ahead of me in line!

This is the bare bones. It is the way a reasonable person would conduct themselves. Its not anywhere in the realm of a grand service expectation :confused3

What if that is what she did? If you have a busy place, a break may never come. You may have to just make people wait. I agree that she should have told the customers. But, maybe she did and the op wasn't in the salon yet.

Your post comes across as more "high and mighty" than others I've read.

I get annoyed, but then I remember that hourly people have to take breaks at certain times or the employer will be in non-compliance.

Yes--the rules apply to adults as well. (It's a federal law, not a state law unless there are state laws that go above and beyond the federal law.)

However, I have no idea if hair stylists are considered hourly and I would be annoyed as well. Ignoring the customers is not an option. I would at least like to be told of the delay. I can't stand being ignored b/c that is just plain rude.

But it isn't so simple to command staff to not take a break, especially if the breaks are legally required.

ETA: I stand corrected, I am remembering my youth. Though my employers still did the same breaks once I turned 18. That being said, I don't care if staff has to break as long as they let me know.

IMO, the OP needs to:

A. get over her self-involved, entitled attitude

and

B. spend a little more time studying her English lessons, focusing on basic spelling, grammar, and punctuation

OP, next time you plan to go call ahead and see just how busy the salon is....then take it from there. :goodvibes

I find it hard to believe that there was only one person working in the whole salon.

The only thing I agree with the OP on is that if this person was the only person running the entire salon for the evening, someone should have seen to it that they were properly staffed. They should have just closed the door s if they knew they could not accommodate the crowd.
But I agree with others that if you're going to go to a "walk in" type salon, you should expect to wait. You want quick? Call ahead and make an appointment somewhere. It's a lot easier and less stressful. Also, I agree that if you're going to post a complaint to an anonymous message board, you should fully expect to get opposing viewpoints. It's rather immature to think otherwise. If you don't want people to disagree with you, then don't post.

Oh, and the punctuation thing drives me nuts as well. The OP expects the courtesy of others (i.e. the person at the salon), but doesn't give others the common courtesy of decent grammar and punctuation so that we can actually read what she types. We're just supposed to "get over it." Well, I think the OP should just "get over" herself.

Honestly OP this is what message boards are all about. You DO have to explain yourself if you started a thread.

Sounds to me like the OP needs a diaper change and a fresh bottle? :rotfl2:

Let's talk about immaturity, shall we? This comment is so immature and totally uncalled for. Shame on you!

The op is a teenager, so some immaturity is expected, but, maybe she should spend a little more time studying basic grammar.

Again, uncalled for. No wonder teens feel they are not welcomed over here.

Thank you! A mature adult. Totally agree with everything this poster says. If I said it once I said it a thousand times. There is no reason to attack a person just because you disagree with them. This has been happening way too much on this board, and I don't understand why it is allowed. :confused3

I had no problem with how busy it was the problem was only one employ being there and leaving for a long time with out saying "i will be right back yall"
I was there when she went to the back i left for a second right
You guys need to stop pulling info out your buts and stop putting words in my mouth.
I do not feel entitled i do not have any issues with feeling entitled.
You can't determen any thing about someone there personality weather they are nice or stuck up from post on the internet.
You don't know the reason behind my lack of spelling/grammer and it is none of your business.
Alot of yall are very ignorant.

ETA and alot of posters on the community bored need to take lessons from the podcast bored the biggest thing we attack each other over is witch is better cake or pie.

If she has to constantly tell people she is on break, that is not much of a break, is it?:confused3 You can't be constantly talking to customers and on break at the same time.

Please, instead of taking a defensive stand, explain how do you feel that people are taking words out of your mouth?
Also, people may not determine one's personality from a post, but they can measure maturity about how a person reacts on a board. For instance, " I DON'T HAVE TO EXPLANE MY SELF TO YOU GUYS!" when posting a board keep in mind that you do have to be somewhat descriptive on what you are posting about.
