should I just request HH or certain buildings to better my chances?

My DD is slide obsessed and now I'm thinking we might be better off near the main pool come next spring break.

Wonder how tough this request is gonna become to get?

Is there anything I might want to know about any of the buildings around the HH area? Like a dumpster view? ;) Or an older building that hasn't been rehabbed, etc.?

Thanks for the help guys!

Shannon, just ASK... There are a few building that are "really close" to HH, and those are very popular, but there are a few "farther out" that would still make walking to the main pool quite easy. If it's the slide you are after, I would ask for "close to main pool." The really close buildings that people request are the newer 62 and 63, I think. But I can see on the map that 16, 64, 14,13,12,11 are also close. Across the street and just up a bit would be 23 and 24. It looks as if there are a lot that would suit your desire to be close to the pool.

Do you have the map of OKW? PM me if you don't and I will photocopy it and send it to you. Also, I haven't heard any negative about any of these closer buildings, except that sometimes parking isn't as easy because of HH parking overflow.

Thanks colleen. Yes, I have a map. Maybe I will just request close to main pool cause it appears that will greatly increase my chances. Or should I say near pool slide so they don't put me near ANY of the pools?

Do all the buildings around that HH area have a pretty decent view from the patio/balcony?

how old is your DD?

this is the area where check in is located - so the cars are constantly going back and forth here.

However the decision is yours - I would go for near any of the pools and for special occasionally drive or walk to the main pool.

may sure she understands that no going to the pool without you -
one day at OKW along the walkway area leading into the pool area I meet a child - she was going to the main pool and I didn't see any parents with her - any way after further discussion she had gotten up without her parents permission and gotten into her swiming suit and she was going swimming - well before I got further into this a MS (who was listening) came over and took her back to her villa......I was certainly glad to see him and glad I didn't have to do anything.....

they were staying across the street in building 11 I think - however she would not have tried this treat (I think) if they were further away....but who knows with kids.....

Yikes spiceycat! I can't believe her parents didn't hear her leaving. What were they doing???

Stayed in Building 14 on first and only trip to OKW. The location was great. Only "complaint" was no elevator and we were on third floor. Our legs got a real work out - and they needed it!!
Our view was of the golf course from the large balcony. It was our first time in an OKW 1 bdrm. Crossing the street to get to HH was a bit tricky, but no more so than any other street. Could use a cross walk of some sort. They were at that time (May 03?) redoing some of the villas. They were completing bldg's 12 & 13, I think! We didn't make any request other than no smoking. It was great. Doesn't hurt to ask! Just remember it is only a request!

lenshanem - I walk early in the morning and this was quite early - I think before 7:00am - so her parents were probably asleep - in a 2-bedroom she could have easily gotten away with it.

Especially in the studio part was a lock out - not a dedicated. However I don't know. I didn't take her back.

kids are smart these days - maybe in some cases to smart.

I am just glad that the MS was there and I didn't have to take her anywhere......I would have chicken out and taken her to the front desk.......

I have also have children lock on my door and get very upset when I answered - I made them wait inside until security or their parents arrived.

some parents on vacation - don't seem to kept up with their children as well as I would hope they would. and the sad part is these children are so upset that they can't always tell me their name so the front desk can't help - which is why I always call security if their parents don't arrive first.

Shannon, Old Key West is really very beautiful all over. The buildings are all landscaped nicely and the patios are all in back so you typically have a nice view, either of golf course, garden or canal. The main difference, in my opinion, is if you are close to "action" or not -- a road or a bus turnaround or even HH. We have never stayed close to HH, never requested it as the pools are all "the same" at this point and I prefer being in the more secluded areas. The only downside I can imagine to being close to HH is more of this action - - foot and auto traffic. Yet you have mentioned driving past OKW and being able to see the backs of buildings. I have stayed very close to that "highway" and it was not a problem -- we felt peaceful and quiet and had a ball, even in a building close to a main road. So as long as you don't mind a little more action, I think I would request "Close to main pool please" so they know exactly what you are after. Really, you are used to Boardwalk -- no way OKW is going to be "too busy" for you! :)
