We want to go to FW Thanksgiving week 2008. If I cannot get reservations that week, what is the nicest, closest, Campground to Disney with a shuttle service?

You can try Tropical Palms. We stayed there a night here and there and it was ok. It is not Fort Wilderness, but if you can't get in then you can't get in.

There aren't really that many campgrounds close to Disney, and none have shuttles that I am aware of. Keep trying, something will probably open up. Just take whatever day you can get, and then keep trying to add days.

Tropical Palms is nice, we stayed there last year. I does have a shuttle that runs to Disney, I think the cost was $6/person.

Fort Summit KOA also runs a shuttle, I have never been there though. Good luck.

I have a question about the "take what you can get, then add days"...

I have gotten two days so far (together). If I am able to get another day, can I add it to the same reservation or will it be separate? The reason I ask is because if it is two separate (or six or seven) reservations, we might have to unhook everything and change sites, then re-set everything up, right? But if we can ADD days to the exisiting reservation, we would stay on the same site. Am I correct?

If you call in you should be able to add it to the existing reservation. I added days and they started a new reservation though, not sure why. When I called back I was told that it would be best to stick with the 2 different reservations because in order to combine them they would have to cancel one and then add that day on the other reservation, and there would be a chance someone could take the day while they were doing this. I was told I would not have to move because the sites are booked for the same type, full hook up for example. If you book a full hook up and then a water and electric they will make you move. Hope this helps. I am still trying to add days, hopefully I can get them.

That leads to another question...I have a travel trailer, so according to the DW site, I can only reserve a preferred or full site, not a water/electric only site. Is that correct? Why would that be the rule? Does the campground not have a dump station for the holding tanks?

Nope, Disney World does not have a dump station for the holding tanks, that's why the bigger campers are not allowed in the partial hookup loops.

Plus, the partial hookup loops have less driveway and more sand pad, designed for tents, and smaller, lightweight trailers.

I don't think this CM gave you the best advise. He/she should have added the day to the one existing reservations first and then canceled the other reservation so that you wouldn't loose either day. After all, in the time it took to cancel one ressie, you could have lost the day you were trying to add and then be out the days you had just canceled. Unless I misunderstood your post.

I have on a couple of occasions (both of them 4th of July, actually) took what I could and added a day at a time until I got what I needed. Typically, you can add days closer to the arrival day as people discover at or near the cancellation deadline that they can't make the trip will call in and cancel their trip. It is best to call either first thing in the morning or, in my case, I was able to add the desired days around 5:00 pm eastern time. I guess the computers are updated after the CRO closes at night and then during the day after someone has had time to cancel earlier in the day before the evening rush to make calls after people get off work before the CRO closes.

we have taken one day at time. then all of the sudden i would get a group of days together and could call and cancel some or all the single days i accumaleted.

also, try the internet and occassionally call for the resies. they can be different. we've also driven there at christmas and got a site when we needed a day or two.

as for moving. you might have to. so, they probably won't tell you that you will not. but, we have only had to move once during a two week trip. we have had numerous trips with multiple resies..

good luck and just keep trying... ps. try really early in the morning....:surfweb:

copying this from my other post above...

We rode through Tropical Palms last time we were there about 3 weeks ago (had never seen it before and just wanted to see what it looked like), looked kind of run down to me and not in the best area of town from what I could tell. Plus there was no security guard shack or anything...maybe I'm too spoiled by FW?

 Got a couple more days!!!!!! Now I've got 4 out of the 6 plan to be there. I wouldn't mind staying in a hotel the first night, but I sure do need to get a spot for that middle day...

keep going your almost there :cloud9: .

we've already showed up late the night before our resies start and just slept at the wayside. then we could just buzz over right away in the morning..;)
