If I am hoping for free dining (reservation question)

and I am planning on going ANYWAY......

Should I book a package including dining at the resort that I want

OR

Should I book room only at the resort that I want.

Which one would be more likely able to transfer to a Free Dining (or possibly OTHER discount).....I think if I want to change the room only they will actually cancel my room and then rebook with the discount - right? But I have read that if you already have a package booked they just APPLY the discount to the existing reservation - right?

Is either option better to get the resort I want.....

Some people will be able to just add the FD code to their room, we did last year. I had made a reservation at POP a month or two before the FD came out and I just gave them the code and they added it. I then booked my BIL and SIL at POP with my Disney Visa and also didn't have a problem. I did call the morning of the first day. But there were many, many people who did not get their resort of choice and had to rebook. Each resort only has so many FD rooms allotted for the promotion. POP and ASMO will sell out first and if you don't have a Disney Visa and call later in the week and want to add the FD code then, well, then you will probably have to rebook. WL wasn't even offered when the FD promo came out last April. There is just no guarantee you will or won't have to rebook. We have no way of knowing which resorts Disney will need to fill this September. We just have to wait and see.

If you book a package you NEVER have to re-book. You may have to change the resort but you can just change the resort. If you book a Room Only reservation and pay the first night deposit then you ALWAYS have to cancel and re-book to get the package. Packages are WDTC and Room Only's are CRO and you can nevertransfer the deposit between the two unless you pay by check. Much easier to just book a package now.

IMO If too many book packages now for September, and the numers are up on reservations. Then why should they even offer free dining for a 3rd time during this 2008 time frame ....

I believe Disney is perfectly aware that people are booking rooms in hopes of Free Dining Coming out and know perfectly well that a huge amount of people would cancel if it's not offered. They don't pay those Disney Marketing Geniuses the big bucks for nothing! lol
