If DH doesn't care for WDW

Would he not like the cruise either? I'm trying to plan a surprise anniversary trip and would love to do Disney but want him to be happy as well. Could I get my Disney fix and have him have a fantastic time on the cruise?

I think most people here would say "Yes". He will still see Disney things and artwork, but there are areas of the ship that are 18 yrs. old and older with the internet, big TV, coffee, drinks where he can get away from it. The clubs don't seem real Disney after 9pm and of course the ports are just like you got there from any other ship. There is a Romantic Escape package that involves the adults only restaurant, spa treatments, champagne, etc.

He may have Goofy run by him in a track suit (like he did me) or look down over the railing on Deck 4 and see a crowd waiting for a character, but he can keep walking. You can look on the Navigator to see what is where and avoid things. He can skip the character breakfast and eat upstairs on deck.
If you have kids he may like some Disney, just to see how much it excites them makes it worthwhile.

Yes, I think you could, of course it depends on what things he likes to do.
Palos is a nice adult only dining experience for an anniversary dinner. Get reservations ASAP for this. They have several romantic spa packages to choose from for the two of you. Or just pick out some spa activities you both would like. Dont forget about the private massage cabanas onthe adult only beach at Castaway Cay, no disney themes there.
The night clubs in the evenings are very nice and they are not Disney themed inside. Different styles of music each night, some 80's night, or 70's night or a tribute to the Beatles etc.. There is usually an adult comedy act, it's suggestive but clean and usually very funny, also done in the clubs, The clubs are 18 and older after 9 P.M. The movie theater usually playes on eor two movies geared towards adults after 10 P.M. each night. Lumiere's or Tritons is definately a NICE restaurant, however it is filled with families so not quiet or romantic like Palo's is. The adult pool is 18 and older, they do try to enforce this, however kids do come to find mom or dad sometimes. Sometimes there is live music there too and of course there is a bar by the pool and a cafe too. There is a bridge tour, a galley tour, culinary demonstrations with free samples, yum, yum too. Besides all the disney themed stuff for you, there is plenty of stuff for him too. But if he doesnt like having kids around, this will not be for him, after all this is Disney and the ship is full of kids and characters too. I say go for it, but only you know what he might like.

I can't believe I'm voting no. Pick another cruise line. 90% of the ship is Disney. The live shows are Disney focused. Some of the dining is disney focused esp. Animator's Palate (the restaurant w/ the color changing Disney pictures) and some times your food will have a mickey head shape to it. Have you seen the mickey face shaped waffles?? The ports would safe and CC doesn't have mickey head shaped sand yet. I don't know about all of the t.v. channels, but I know all the shows and movies we saw were Disney. So, if you think your husband will go crazy on the ship b/c he feels surrounded by Disney, you might consider another cruise line. Good luck making this DIFFICULT decision. I want you to have harmonious anniversary not one of We're doing what?!

If you are trying to satisfy two different things then yes Disney can give you that. It will give you the Disney feel and characters, etc. as well as being upscale and elegant. You will see There is a lot of Disney stuff around. The ship is beautiful though and it has areas you can go to to get away from the children. There won’t be any real “adult” entertainers, casino, etc, but that’s alright if you can live without that. The ports are great and Castaway Cay, Disney or not, is beautiful and should be seen. So if you want Disney and he doesn’t he could probably survive a week onboard.

I vote yes.

My dh is not very disney-esque but he loved the cruise. I thought he would hate it. He thought I would never go again after our 1st night on the cruise when I got soooooo sick during a storm.

We were both happy and relieved when we were walking down one of the corridors on the Wonder and found out that each other wanted to go again!!!!

I respect the "No" vote registered, and the issue we don't know as we try to respond and help is "what about WDW doesn't he like?" I prefer DCL to WDW because I detest lines, standing around in the heat, all the long dragging schlepping, whats involved in just going back to my hotel to rest, shower, change, or have a bethroom break, and restaurants/eating can be a hassle and expensive and more waiting. I love that on DCL nothing is more than 900 feet from anything else worst case scenario, i have a reserved table and time for dinner, meals are all inclusive, stateroom is handy, etc. I don't mind the program content, and what i do mind, I can skip.

If DH doesn't like Disney content, then yes, the shows will not be of interest. For sample of what movies have played, go to one of the links at Barb & Tony's site to see various navigator's over various times to see representative movie offerings from what was playing then. There is everything that comes on a cruise--spa, music and cocktails, shore excursions. The ships themselves are elegant, not garish like the all star resorts (okay, except for mickey's hand holding up the slide at the mickey pool, but that is fanciful for the kids).

I saw the movie wimbledon on the in-room TV last time I cruised, didnt seem too disney-esque. and lemony snicket w/ DS. all depends what aspects of WDW he doesn't like.

My vote parallels this post. DCL is not WDW on a ship. It is a cruise with a Disney touch. I would be more concerned that your DH might not like the cruising aspect before I would be concerned that he would not like the Disney aspect. Would he really miss the casino? Is he horrified by all things Disney?

If you look at the Navigators and don't find many activities that would be of interest to him, maybe plan the Seven Day Western Carribbean over the Seven Day Eastern, there is one less day at sea.

DCL is fabulous - best vacation ever for us. That said, why force it? RCCL and the other cruise lines will give you a fantastic vacation too at a lot less money. If DH isn't a WDW fan, chances are good that he won't appreciate the Disney touches that DCL fans love. That's a good chunk of the value premium that people are willing to spend to go Disney, so you run the risk that he wouldn't be too happy about paying top dollar for Disney.

At some point you'll probably talk him into doing DCL w/kids, family, or (if you're of a certain age) grandkids. For just the 2 of you take the opportunity to go on one of the behemoth RCCL or Carnival ships, or maybe even Windjammer or one of the exotic lines.

I have to agree, what doesn't he like about WDW? If he doesn't like crowds and standing in line and schlepping, cruising may be more to his taste. If he doesn't like Disney style schmaltz, he may be happier on RCCL where Mickey is not standing around for pictures in the lobby and the shows are sentimental glurge.

And what does appeal to him about cruising? Disney's night life apparently leaves something to be desired (I wouldn't know, like 90% of DCL guests, we were in bed by 10:30 - which is why the night life leaves something to be desired).

He does not like the amusement park aspect of it. We have cruised before with RCCL and he absolutely loved it, I did too. I was just hoping that if we did DCL that we could have the best of both worlds.

I've done both WDW and DCL.

I don't plan on every returning to WDW except for perhaps once when DS is about 6yo.

In the mean time, I've already been on 6 DCL cruises and DS has already been on two (4 day Wonder at 14mo, and 14 day Magic in May at age 2+), and have another one booked for 2006.
