If a hospital calls for a code blue.....

A minute or even 2 is too soon for a patient to be called "expired" More likely someone thought a patient on their way out, and pushed the button, for them to wake up and be OK. happens more than you know.

I had a code blue called on me when I passed out after a vaccine. Pretty embarrassing to wake up with all these people surrounding you. I'm sure it got cancelled as it was clearly unnecessary--but as someone said..better safe than sorry.

I wasn't out that long...and I had a pulse.
:)

Freaked my mom out though just as it did when I passed out at age 6. I just felt like a dork though for being such a wimp.

Interesting - we use Code Orange for that (a security emergency with someone in danger). Code Yellow for us is a disaster. (anything that would produce mass casulties - in actuality it's usually a bus wreck, although we have Code Yellow drills every quarter and the practice scenarios are always over the top horrible. I guess they figure we can handle reality if we can handle those).

Code Purple is a psych patient escaping, and Code Pink is an abduction.

We started a rapid response team about 18 months ago and it has really cut down drastically on the number of codes, (code blue, I mean) since you can call that team to intervene BEFORE things deteriorate into a full-blown code.

We also have another team which responds to medical emergencies in non-patients. That happens more than you would think. More than I thought, anyway.

is your psych unit a locked unit? We do not have a code for an escapee. We just alert security and call the police. Not sure what happens if they are there voluntarily though. If we have an involuntary off the unit we are escorted by a guard. Im a psych aide. Our code blue is massive casualties like your code yellow.

Our escapee code is CODE GREEN. I always think the escapee is heading for the green green grass. Turns out it is just our DON's fave color-lol.

For us, we have the standard code clue for cardiac arrest or respiratory arrest. Code purple is a pediatric code. We also had a code rescue for patients who aren't a code yet, but don't look right.

Code orange is a baby delivered without a doc present, means for any OB to go there. Code Adam is an abduction. Code green is a violent patient or visitor. Code 512 somebody had a fall.

And the favorite one is code brown for severe weather. We laugh so much about the code brown. We joke it is a total $&@! Storm. :lmao:

Code black is an internal disaster of some sort. Have never heard it called.

The only places which don't call a code blue are the emergency room and the operating room. For us the units will still call codes.

We do not have an official code brown on the list, yet it seems to get called a lot, just not overhead. If we hear code brown we know to bring in a weeks supply of wipes, lift pads, sheets cause we are walking into a mess.

Yes, it's a locked unit. It's very rare for anyone to actually get out from there. Usually the escaped patient was still in the ED waiting for a psych bed to be ready.

:rotfl:

We call that a Code Brown as well!

We also used to call our disaster a "Dr. Blue" but people got it confused with Code Blue (duh...) and so they changed it to Code Yellow.

Fire is a Dr. Redbird, and for drills there is an actual *red bird* that security will hide someplace on your unit, and when you see the thing, you have to react like it's a real fire. Meaning we are supposed to pull the fire alarm, NOT actually douse the bird with a fire extinguisher - lol -although some people have gotten carried away. :rotfl2:

Storms (tornadoes, not just thunderstorms) are Code T, and that one is a PITA!

Installation of the button at toddler level in postpartum? Have since modified it but for the first few months....

Yeah, I was the Fire Warden for my building at the hospital. Four times a year, I had to wander through the building and wave a red flag while saying (not yelling) "FIRE". Everyone at that point was supposed to think about what they were supposed to do. Once a year, I had to do that and try to get everyone to drop what they were doing and go out to the parking lot. Want to talk about herding cats? "I can't....I'm on a conference call." "I can't, I have to finish this report for a meeting at noon." "I can't, I'm busy!"

We had some interesting codes (can't remember what they were called) because we were the Level I Trauma Center for Kennedy Space Center and whenever the President was in town. Luckily, I never had to hear one of those.

I'm sorry, but this made me laugh so hard! I can just imagine someone casually walking through the halls of the hospital waving a flag saying in a montone calm voice, "fire"............"fire".............."fire".............

I love reading about codes and systems that different agencies have in place. It's really fascinating to me!

my husband and I both feel like the lower is way more motion... we felt this on the Wonder and I just got off a pretty rocky Magic from last week and we definitely felt more motion on the lower decks.... this was our first time staying in Aft, the prior two cruises we stayed mid and I like Mid better... I don't think we felt more motion in AFT but I felt something every time we docked at port in the middle of the night and never felt that before staying in Mid

ETA: OMG so sorry I fell for the zombie thread! :crutches::crutches:

Not only is it a zombie thread, but it's the wrong one for your response. LOL
