Ok.......so I'm close to leaving and I'm starting to worry about little things. I don't have to show an ID to the TSA for my kids (3 & 6) do I? I didn't have to two years ago and I'm pretty sure nothing has changed, but just wanted to check. Also I'm taking my niece with us.......I don't need anything special for her do I? Thanks in advance!!

The only time ours "kids" were asked for ID was when they hit 18 - until then we never had to show anything.

You won't need it for the plane, but you'll definitely want to get a consent to treat form for your niece. Without one, a hospital will not treat her (except in a true case of life or death) without parental consent.

I would definitely take some sort of note for your niece, along with a "permission to treat". Why? Because the TSA lady asked my 5 year old a few questions to make sure that he was mine and that he knew me, etc. And it's one of the areas where having a mom as a hippie hasn't helped me, because I called my mom by first name, and DS calls me by first name, and he was freaked out by her and couldn't figure out what words she wanted (aka "she's my mom"). It was ultimately no problem, and explaining that he calls me by first name was accepted by her, plus hubby was behind us and he pointed at him and told her that he was his dad (DH likes to be called by title where I don't, though he certainly does know, and has called me the title, that I'm his mom).

Anyway, I'd hate for you to get into a situation like that where she's your niece and you have nothing saying that you have permission to take her on a plane trip.

Agree with the others. When we have taken friends of our kids we made sure we had a notorized letter saying we were able to make medical decisions, etc. for them. Also make sure you have a copy of her medical insurance card since you would need it in case something were to happen. Better to be prepared and not need the info than be panicking if you had an emergency.

I just called SW last week to change my name on the ticket to match my DL and asked about my DS11. In Aug when I flew I didn't need Id for him but I thought with the change let me make sure.. They told me "YES" I would need a BC or passport for the child to go through security. We are flying within the states too.
so I don't know if either SW is confused or it is true but plan to take the passports with me on Tuesday.
