My wife and I are visiting Universal Orlando in May and although we won't be wanting to drink in the park we are going to visit Hard Rock Cafe for dinner.

1) Does anyone know what Universal and Hard Rocks policy is on ID for buying alcohol?

I understand that Disney now accept a photocopy of your UK passport along with a UK driving license.

I emailed Hard Rock directly but they did the usual, just read the first line of your email and respond, so they did not answer my question regarding ID.

I would have to assume just like most establishments anyone who appears to be under 40 will be carded. I'm 30 and I Expect to get carded, although I usually don't it's has to be expected. I have however always been carded for lottery tickets!?! Confused :x

My query is more to do with the type of ID required. I really don't like the idea of carrying my passport around the parks.

The new system at Disney of a photocopy of your passport with a photocard ID (driving licence) seems better.

We never carry our passport anywhere.

We carry our UK driving licence and it is always suitable for ID wherever we have had to use it. I was "very happy" to be asked for ID last year in Nascar in Citywalk..........I could have hugged her if I'm honest :rotfl:

UK plastic licence was fine. We never go anywhere near Disney so have never had to deal with their newish policy with alcohol, but it's been perfectly acceptable everywhere else.

Drivers licence was enough on CityWalk when I and my boyfriend went in 2012.
Funny thing tho, they had this book with photos and information of ID from different countries. Our licence have a newer format so they had to find photo of the exact ID in that book. Took some time but was found in that magic book eventually.

Got this response from the beverages manager at Hard Rock Cafe Orlando:

-We accept licenses, State ID's Passports.

I replied - When you say licenses, do you mean that our UK photocard driving license would be accepted as proof of age?

Response - As long as it has a picture, and it's a driving license!

And there was me thinking Americans didn't use sarcasm. :thumbsup2
