The school is doing an Ident a Kid program this Friday. It's $8 for the first card (per kid), $2 for each additional card.

I thought I read somewhere that these aren't a good idea but not sure why. I know how tall my kids are and always have a current picture of them with me so not really sure what I need this for.

My 9 yr old is begging to do it. She even said she would pay with her own money.

its a great idea and everyone should have a picture of their child. but, the child should never carry it or any kind of identification.

we get one evrey year through the school. but its free for us. if it wasnt free i would just carry my childrens pictures and i would write the info on the back of the picture. i dont think i would pay for it.

I wouldn't... lol.. Instead, ages 5 and up here in FL can have a State of FL issued ID. That's what we have for my 5 yr old. I know the height, weight, hair color, eye color, etc. for my kids and I have a million pictures of them... a few of each of them in my wallet and a trillion on my phone LOL and then some more on the keychain... so I really dont see a need for these Ident A Kid things... although I know I have about 10 from my childhood LOL and they are pretty cute LOL

Don't they fingerprint too? DD's preschool did something last year but I can't remember the name. They got an id looking thing with picture and stats on it and their finger print was on the back. I could see the finger print possibly being useful if something happened to the child but the picture was so small. One of your own shapshots would be a better picture.

When we go to kids shows like Disney on Ice, Monsters Inc on Ice etc the Hamilton County Sherifs Department always has a table set up. They give out DNA kits so you can keep DNA of your children available incase something happens to them. Depressing :sad1: and not something I really want to think about when I'm chasing my two kids around through a huge crowd of people.

I am not sure exactly what you are talking about but around here we have a program for kids. They fingerprint, photo and add a description of your child. It all goes on a small disc that the police can actually put into the computer in their car to send out a missing child alert. This way the photo is easily spread to all surrounding police departments. It is much better than just a photo.

Our school has worked with Ident a kid for the past 7 years and have never heard a complaint about them. We get enough cards so that everyone who they are with on a regular basis (us, grandparents, aunts) has one, I carry them in my wallet. It is not just the picture, but their height, weight, eye color and fingerprint on the back. We update them yearly. We also use them when we fly as identification for the kids. We will definitely bring them to WDW with us.

My son's school offers these for free through the company that comes in to take their pictures every year. I thought it was pretty cool. The pic is an ok sized one and all the parent does is fill in the info on the back ie: height weight bday and identifying marks. i like the last one since my son has a rather noticable birthmark on the inside of his elbow. there is also a spot for fingerprints as well.

Yep we do them every year as well. We get one for DH, I and an extra for whoever they may go go somewhere with.

We got state id's from the BMV for our kids, we did use the ident-a-kid last year but then we were going out of the country and we went to the BMV and they said its a good idea for all kids to get them there, you can use them in the airports, traveling as a good id for your kids.
