Ok, we are going on 08/30 for 8 days. Staying at CBR. I just checked the WDW website, and other then Epcot, all the parks are closing early while we are there.

Can you give me some suggestions of things to do in the area that are ok for DH and DS who is 9 years old, after the parks close?

We had thought about Universal or Sea World, but they are closing even earlier!

Why not try Down Town Disney? Aside from the great shopping, there is Disney Quest which I'm sure a 9 year old boy would enjoy-my 8yo ds and 18 yo dss love this place. There is a movie theatre that's also nice. And for a great dessert try Ghirardelli's Ice Cream shop-it is our favorite and we spent more than one evening there last trip. Your son may also enjoy lego land, it's really neat. Once you get there I'm sure you will not have a problem trying to figure out what to do-there is sooo much!!

Have Fun!! :smooth:

Oh, there's lots to do.

Eat dinner after the parks close.

Swim at your hotel pool.

Resort "hop". Check out the resorts where you'll want to stay next. (Buses do run after parks close.)

Dinner shows - Poly luau, HoopDeeDu, Mickey's BBQ

Down Town Disney - shows, shopping, dinner, Circl de sole (sp??)

Disney Quest

Fort Wilderness - Campfire (chip & dale visit, movie, toast marshmellows), hayride, horse & carriage rides

Rent bikes

Rent watermouse or other boat

Illimuniations at World Showcase/Epcot and Fantasia show at MGM.

If you're staying at a delux, your ds can stay at a kids club while you and dh have a nice romantic dinner. (Actually, you can stay at any resort, but you'd have to travel to a delux for the kids club).

When we were there in Aug 2 yrs ago, the parks were open till 10. We still were "conked" out in our room about 7-8, in jammies, just watching tv. We preferred to get up early & take advantage of early openings.

Great suggestions from Kimberle. We always go during value season when the parks close early. We ate most of our dinner in Epcot after the other parks closed. The WS is wonderful at night. Disney Quest is also a must. Don't forget Fantasmic at MGM. I think that starts about 7:30 p.m. We also like to do an evening on the Boardwalk and have dinner there.

Kimberle just about said it all. There are so many thing to do at night that we always leave without hitting them all. We always take walks on the Boardwalk. Illuminations is every night and a walk over to Beaches & Cream is a must do. Downtown Disney is fun just to walk around and grab a bite to eat. We take a boat ride to have dinner at OKW's Olivia's. Go to the Wilderness Lodge, Disney Quest or just walk the grounds of your own resort. The Hoop de Doo is one of our favorites not to mention the campfire at Fort Wilderness. You never have to worry about running out of things to do and it is nice to take an evening and hang out by the pool.

Jakesmom,
Great ideas from everyone. Be sure to check with the front desk to see if any E-ride nights will be scheduled. On our last two trips, there were no E-ride nights published, but when we checked in, they had scheduled some. A great way to spend an evening.
Have a great time!

I second the vote for Downtown Disney! We love this place and there is a ton of stuff to see.

Another thing you might want to consider is mini golf. We hit Winter Summerland just about every time that we are there and my 6 year old loves it! I am not sure how late this is open but we have gone during value season and hit it about 8 p.m. or later.

If you want to leave the parks, you might want to consider Old Town in Orlando. This has some rides and some neat little shops. You have to pay for the rides but the shops are neat and there is an arcade.

We are going during value season this year and have decided to try Disney Quest. While my DH and older DS are doing this, my younger DS and I are going to hop on the boat over to Fort Wilderness and check out the campfire. I have heard great things about it and can't wait to try it out!

Since you are going in late August, you also might just want to stay at the pool. We usually stay at CBR and love hanging out at the pool and ordering pizza. The weather will still be warm and this would give all of you a chance to relax! Whatever you do, you will have a great time since you are on vacation at Disney and together!

If you go to Disney Quest, don't forget to check out the Cheesecake Factory. Their cheesecake is absolutely to die for. I don't know why they didn't open a location somewhere at DD where you don't have to pay admission to DQ just to get a piece of their cheesecake. We have actually gone in, played some skeeball and headed right to the Cheesecake Factory. Without a doubt the most expensive cheesecake we have ever eaten.

My only other suggestion is putt putt. Disney has a great putt putt course (although at the moment, I can't remember the name). Tons of fun!

The miniature golf course is called Fantasia Gardens. It is next to the Boardwalk, which is next to Epcot. You could go to Epcot, leave via the International Gateway and take a boat to the Boardwalk if you don't feel like walking. When you're done checking out the Boardwalk, walk on over to Fantasia Gardens for some golf. You can also go by boat or walk to Beach Club for Beaches n Cream Ice Cream. If that's too busy, there's an ice cream place in the basement of the Dolphin Hotel--which is between the Boardwalk and Beach Club.

Talk about Cheesecake.........

If you have wheels, and haven't seen the new "Mall at Millenia", there is a 'Cheesecake Factory' restaurant in there.

And for us girls, there's also Tiffany and Cartier. Here's the link to the list of shops... http://www.mallatmillenia.com/home.html

Shopping/Dining Overload!!!

You have given me some great ideas!

We've never been to the Boardwalk, sounds like fun, my DS loves miniature golf so Fantasia Gardens sounds great! Will also try Fort Wilderness.

Anything outside of the world ( i.e international drive area) that might be interesting?

Thanks for all your ideas, and please keep em coming!:bounce: :Pinkbounc

Bump!

Just looking for anything outside the world? Inter drive area?

Thanks

We always pick a night or two, to have our child with a Fairygodmother (get you the number if you need it)They come to the room and sit with your child, they bring a bag full of goodies that is age appropriate. Or if you are staying at a deluxe hotel the kids clubs they have are great!

My son loved the time away from us on our last trip

we went to Pleasure Island.

Even if you do not drink ~
a trip to THE ADVENTURER'S CLUB is a must! We laugh so much we end up staying there almost the whole evening!

We find this one of our most memorable times at Disney.

We always have a great time and we get to spend some quality time together without the kids.
