Does anyone have an idea to cook for 10 people, preferably quick and budget-friendly)?
I've got some family coming from out of town. It doesn't matter if it's crock-pot or oven. (Something that won't keep me in the kitchen constantly so I can visit too!)
TIA

You could put a lasagna together the night before and store it in the fridge, then just take it out of the fridge about an hour before you want to start baking it so it comes up in temperature a bit. While its baking you can visit with family because all the work was done the day before. Pair it with a salad and some garlic bread and you're all set!

My first thought was lasagne, too!

Spaghetti and Meatballs. Bake the meatballs the night before and add to the suace before serving. That with a salad or Galic bread can serve an army for next to nothing.

Make chili and have a taco salad bar!

What about a shish ka bob? I do that often, it makes chicken and a london broil go FAR!!!

Italian Beef in the crockpot is good and easy to do for a crowd. Some crusty rolls, a nice salad and some fresh melon...you are good to go!

pasta or taco bars. we do these all the time for parties. both are cheap and easy. we recently had a taco bar for a party of 44... shells and tortillas, beef and/or chicken, beans, cheese, rice, lettuce, tomato, sour cream, guac, and salsa. almost no prep work, and everyone makes it how they take it.

When we have large groups we also do kabobs also. I can cut all the veggies and meat and put them together the night before. I ususally pair with wild rice, or sometimes sticky rice, and a green salad. It is something I know not everyone does very often so it makes it more special then lasanga. But I love lasanga so that would be my next vote. :)

baked spaghetti was my first thought. Fix it the night before and then just pop it into the oven. Add a salad and garlic bread and you are set!

Grilled bugers and dogs are always a good option too.. do everything ahead of time and then throw them on the grill when its time to eat. Add chips, baked beans, watermelon and you are all set!

Great idea - and economical!:thumbsup2

When I'm having a party for that size and would rather be visiting with them out on the deck than cooking/prepping - I do this:
Crock pot - pulled pork. I put a big pork - shoulder (pretty cheap) in the crock pot EARLY...I try to 'pull' it before the people actually get here (much easier to do if it has been in on LOW for 8 hours, but could do a couple hours on high if necessary. I take some chunks of fat out while pulling and then just leave the rest in there - maybe add a touch more BBQ sauce.

I make (or buy) coleslaw to put with this (could also do pasta salad or mac salad if you prefer) and some sort of fruit. I buy some nicer-rolls from a bakery and - THAT'S IT.

Easy and 99% of it can be done before people get there!

The pork that fits the edges of my crock pot usually feeds 8 - 10 of us and then also have some leftovers...so I would guess at least 15 - 18 sandwiches with a full pot of pork.

Fiesta!!!! It's very easy and cheap. :)
Fritos (we use Scoops)
Rice (cooked of course :) )
Chili (I prefer vegetarian but meat chili is good too)
sour cream
guac
hot sauce
tomatoes
cheese
onion
cucumber
cheese
any other taco type toppings you might like

assemble like this
rice
chili
cheese
all other toppings
put the Fritos around the edges and use the Scoops to eat it. :) Very good.
Another thing you can do is get regular Fritos and crush them and then put them on the bottom of the plate and assemble as above, then you have to use a fork to eat it. :)

I love to make crockpot salsa chicken for a crowd and then have a bunch of different taco toppings. I usually put out cheese, sour cream, salsa, lettuce, tomato, peppers, onions, jalapenos and whatever else looks good at the store. It's always been a hit!

I put a brisket in my dutch oven with baby carrots, small potatoes, and onions. Pour a bottle of BBQ sauce over all and put into the oven for 6 hours on 300. melts in your mouth. That with a salad and fresh bread plus ice cream for dessert and you are set.

How about meatball subs... if you make them for spag and meatballs.. just make extra for meatball subs... bread, cheese sauce pretty easy.
You can do a make your own pizza nights... you can buy premade dough or use the pilsbury pizza one.. have sauce and some pre shredded cheese and some easy toppings like peppers pepperoni pre cooked chicken. Also everyone can help!:)

For something along the same lines but a bit of a twist is Mexican lasagna. It is always a big hit and you can make lots of it!
