Due to work commitments, we are going to be leaving later than we planned. We will be doing longer days and are looking for good ideas for foods for both snacks as well as foods we can use towards meals if we want to make up time and not stop for long. Any input? We are crossing into the US so we cannot bring any meat. If anyone has any ideas of things we can even stop and grab at a grocery store when we do cross the border, I'd appreciate it.

We always drive and in our arsenal (plug in cooler) we have yogourt, milk, cheese strings, drinks, carrots, celery. We also take crackers, bread, butter, pretzels, ice water. If you have little ones "fishy" (the orange ones) crackers are a must. Last time I took hard boiled eggs as well. Power bars are nice if a meal is going to be a while. Nuts also work for this. We also have throw away beer cups/plastic spoons and cereal for a quick snack along the way.

We always leave early in the moring so stopping is not an option for many hours into the trip.

Have fun!!

We also have a plug in cooler and I pack it with drinks, sandwiches, cereal bars and muffins. We rarely stop for longer than to get gas and bathroom breaks. We find that if we eat small amounts often we are more alert and don't get as tired. We will sometimes go to a drive through and add fries to our lunch. Our objective is to get there as soon as possible.

Drive safe

V8 is a good way to get your vegetables. Have that, and a PBJ, or cheese sandwich, and you've pretty much got your nutritional bases covered.

Kungaloosh!
Morticia.

Lots of energy bars, chips, small ice chest with drinks and cheese and crackers, pepperoni, slim jims and all the super fatty stuff I can't eat!!! AHHHH I hate doctor atkins!!

Aside from items that others have suggested, we packed bagels with cream cheese, peanut butter and jam rolled up in soft tortillas, individual applesauces and puddings, poptarts, Vachon cakes. We also used our plug in cooler. We stopped a grocery stop for grapes, apples, and sliced meat.

We take an electric cooler with juice boxes and cold cuts and egg salad and a loaf of bread to make sandwiches. We also bring milk and cereal to eat saves us time and money not having to eat takeout etc on the way there and home.

We take most of the above items ~ also in a koolatron ~ but the best thing is a ziploc full of cheerios/froot loops (any kind of round cereal) and licorice. Have the kids make necklaces while you drive and then they get to eat them when they are done!
This keeps them occupied for about 1 hour.
We always leave at 8pm and drive 18 hours. The kids each take a gravol before we leave home and we don't have to stop (other than gas) until breakfast. This way the kids are only awake for 2 - 6 hours days. It also gives hubby and I quality time with no kids interrupting our conversations! Imagine that!

We just got back and took a huge rubbermaid container full of snacks-granola bars, crackers and cheese, fruit snacks/roll ups, indvidual pudding, individual fruit cups, individual packages of Dad's oatmeal cookies, oreo cookis, little packages of ritz crackers and cheese, oatmeal bars etc. We also bought drink in box juice and kept it in a cooler.
We also bought a little compact oven that plugs into our lighter and it fit great on the dash--we could cook a mini pizza in 1/2 hour so it was continuously cooking---it also was great for heating up pre-cooked items.
We bought a cheap toaster at Wal-Mart(cost $8) and when we crossed the border we picked up bread and cereal to eat breakfasts, had packed peanut butter, honey, etc. When we were done with our holiday we just left the toaster. Try to find hotel's with complimentary breakfasts, eat big breakfast then go, with snacks in vehicle you should be able to get away with only buying one meal a day on the way down!
Also took instant oatmeal and Kraft dinner Ready Mac in case any rooms had a microwave--------all this saved a ton of money on food.
