Ideas for alcohol as a gift

While the PA State Store system is archaic and a PITA, the selection is not limited. With the exception of the local micro breweries, nothing has been mentioned on this thread that cannot be purchased at a State Store.

I agree on both the PITA aspect and that I can find everything mentioned and then some.

Not sure where in PA, but what about a gift certificate to a local winery? We have some great ones here in our region and we've visited some really nice ones in other parts of the state. If he/they aren't wine drinkers or not near enough to a winery, I'd go with a micro-brew local to your area. (I love your martini set-up idea!)

How about a decent bottle of wine or champagne-- if he recently got married, you can encourage him to save it and drink with their new stemware for their first anniversary.

I was also thinking of sparkling wine of some kind, depending on their new year plans - many people drink it on NYE. The latest popular sparkling wine is an Italian Prosecco.

Pinnacle whipped cream vodka - this is pretty tasty! We had it just straight with ice

I am referring to vodka that tastes like whipped cream - not the whipped cream with vodka in it. I know that is something different and have heard from one person they didn't like it.

Any other flavored vodkas would probably be nice - maybe some cherry + a 6-pack of redbull?

Do you have a good microbrewery close to you? If I were sending an alcohol gift I'd go down to our best (IMO) microbrewery, The Great Lakes Brewing Company, and send out a couple of six packs.

My husband really misses Great Lakes beer since we relocated from NE Ohio :( He also liked Willoughby Brewing co.

I haven't tried it yet, but at the liquor store I go to, the new "in" flavoured vodka is... COTTON CANDY. I forget the name of the brand but honestly I don't think too many brands are making cotton candy flavoured vodka.

Lots of ideas thanks! So with the flavored vodkas brands aren't as important as with the regular vodka?
I like the idea of getting one pretty expensive bottle he wouldn't buy himself, since I'm finding the good stuff is about $10 less here than where he lives, but I am fairly ignorant on what is the "good" stuff. I had help on the vodka and gin purchases! And we all know we buy the normal stuff often but rarely splurge on a good bottle.

If I got a good bottle of reg. vodka and then 2 of the flavors which is the best reg Vodka I forget what I bought last year but it went over well! (Damn middle aged brain)

Scotch or Vodka...

Personally I like my vodka straight, but every once in a while a nice cherry or vanilla in coke is good.

I like Grey Goose or Svedka (flavored).

May I suggest, though, that the OP be very careful about what they are getting their nephew? I mean, we don't want them sending the wrong idea, and the nephew suddenly taking an "interest" in their relative. We'll have a whole new thread on our hands. ;)

How about the starbucks liquor? I know they make it but I can't remember the brand. My FIL had some that he had to share it was very good. :goodvibes

This sounds interesting. Who makes it?

I believe its made by Jim Beam.

Not many bourbon fans here but there are many choices of varying ages and prices. A single barrel bourbon would be my choice.

I'm a vodka drinker and can't stand flavored vodkas, so be certain that might be something he'd like. I second the Patron Silver suggestion.

Good call.

Body shots are out.

You guys are too warped even for my sick mind.......

I'm more than old enough to be his Mom, have taken him to Disney 4 times as he was growing up and take full credit for why he did the Disney college program. Plus he is married to a gorgeous thin blonde with a masters and a Law degree so I don't think I'm anywhere on his radar!

I like the Tequila idea since I bought the vodka last year. That looks interesting.

The flavored vodkas are on sale by me this week for about 10$

Tequila and some margarita mix? I am on a margarita kick lately!

I bought my niece who is the same age Patron for Christmas and she was thrilled.

I'm leaning toward this, even though there are some very good ideas on here, can you say birthday!. So Glad to hear she liked it. I just checked the ads for this week and it is in the right price range,

is $39 a decent price? It was Patron Silver.
