Can we rent/trade our points to a travel agent then book the vacation at a discount taking the points value off? Kwim? Like if we rented the points at $10 to the TA then used that as cash to book say the cruise or another vacation? Do you think an agency would go for it? Has anyone done it? Or is is too much of a hassle?

Now can people just rent points and use them when they want or would the vacation still have to be booked through me the member?

Unless the travel agent is a DVC member and is willing to rent your points and transfer them to their account, you would still have full control over the points and would be the only one who could make a reservation using your points.

Points may ONLY be used by the DVC member who controls them. They are totally worthless to a non-member.

If you can find a travel agent willing to find you a renter, your suggestion might work. I'm thinking you may want to rent your points yourself instead of trying to involve a third party- sounds pretty complicated to me.

Good luck!

I don't follow why you would want to get a travel agent involved (or why a travel agent would want to rent the points)? You can rent out your points and use the cash whatever way you would like.

I just thought not to have to have so much to deal with but as Doc pointed out unless the TA had DVC then I would still be stuck making the arrangements. SO my idea is not really feasible.

Actually there are some travel agent types that go out and try to find timeshare rentals for their clients. I get emails and calls not uncommonly regarding the resort I own in MX as well as DVC. The problem is they always call on too short a notice.

Some members "rent" points to other members. It does seem to be less "work" to do that rather than rent out reservations to non-members. Check out a few of the posts over on the Rent/Trade Forum.

The other member pays you for the points and you transfer the points to his/her account. Just one call to MS and you are done. (Of course there is still the effort involved to find the other member and negotiate terms).

Best wishes -
