ID for Pool Hopping

For DVC member pool hopping, can you be staying at any of the disney hotels or do you have to be staying at one of the DVC properties? Also, do you need to have both your DVC member card as well as your room card key?

The DVC official members site specifically states (quotes added by me):

"Disney Vacation Club Members and their guests staying with them at Disney's Old Key West Resort, Disney's BoardWalk Villas and The Villas at Disney's Wilderness Lodge are permitted to use other Walt Disney World® Resort and Disney Vacation Club resort hotel pools (other than the hotel at which you are staying) if these pools are not at capacity on any given day. A Walt Disney World® Resort ID card identifying you as a "DVC Member" is required to use the other pools. "

The way I read this, you must be staying at a DVC property. I've also read that you must be staying on points, but I don't see that in this policy.

You are supposed to be staying on points and have a room ID card that says "DVC Member". They do not accept the regular DVC membership card at the pools.

So, in other words, if we stay one night at OKW and not use points for that night (our point stay starts the next day at VWL for the week), our room card would not say DVC member for that one night stay since we would pay cash, therefore we could not pool hop that day or the next morning? The reason why I am asking is that the latest member news, states that pool hopping will not be allowed starting 3/24 for Easter so...we thought of doing that the 22 and 23. If we can't there are certainly plenty of other things to do and besides who knows what the weather will bring anyway!

our point stay starts the next day at VWL for the week

As soon as you check into VWL (even if the room is not ready yet) you will get your room ID stating "DVC Member". Just get over to VWL early and you can hop that day. You can do this before checking out at OKW.

The DVC card itself is not sufficient to pool hop- you must have a valid WDW resort ID which states "DVC Member".

Your Resort ID will only say DVC Member IF you are staying on points.

We stayed at OKW from the 7th thru the 12th on points. We had a wonderful stay and great weather. Consequently, we spent alot of time around different pools during our stay. I won't bore all of you with the details, but there were two interesting items.

One, we called the desk at Boardwalk and despite the fact that Boardwalk was undergoing some type of refurbishment on the exterior and that several sections were closed we were told there would not be any room that day and the pool was closed to pool hopping.

Two, we called for SAB next and were told to come on over. When we arrived, fortunately, I had my DVC member card with me because the lifegaurd at the gate requested both a valid resort ID and our member card. We asked why and were told that there was some sort of pin # that they look for on the card that verifies something. I don't know what.

Anyway, we had a great time. DVC'ers might want to consider having both ID's around just in case.

when we were down 10/20 - 10/29, we PH at the Poly and after making the call headed over. We got the 3 hour parking pass (they seem to change the colors every other day...one day they were yellow and the next blue, anywaaaays) and headed in to the resort. I showed my resort key only when getting towels, was not asked about my DVC member card, that by the way was back at OKW in the room. Would it really be so tough to do things in a consistent manner..

DH & I just returned from a long weekend. We stayed one night at OKW and the next two nights at Yatch Club. Our room keys stated "DVC Member" for the night we stayed at OKW, but only stated "Member" when we were at YC. Seems you need to be staying at a DVC resort on points to be able to PH.
