ID for children

It has been a few years since we went to Disney. Do they have any ID systems where they give kids an ID bracelet or something to match them to parents and help in the event a child gets lost?

Going at the end of July!!! Can't wait.

I have never heard of system like this at Disney. I would pin a small business card in the back of their clothing listing inside by the tag your mobile number and hotel name/ number. This will be very helpful in the event they are lost.

I am also bring each child's recent school photo....just in case....

If you have a digital camera with you snap a close up and full length picture of your child each morning. It can be life saver when they ask what was your child wearing. Our minds go blank when we are in distress. You can even show the CM the picture from your digital camera window. How you describe something may not be clear to other people. If things got really bad there is a photo lab on the premises and they could print pictures of your child right there to distribute.

I read another hint about taking a daily picture using a polaroid camera if you don't have a digital. The poster said a friend actually had to use the picture to find their lost child. Great idea!

Just an idea...
You might want to contact your local police dept. and see if they have any identification kits. We recently attended an outting offered by the local police and community group that was offering these great indentification kits. For $2.00-$3.00 the police officers took digital pictures of all the kids and wrote down all their vital info. About 2 weeks later we received a laminated business sized card with our childs picture and the info. If she ever comes up missing (God forbid) I'm sure my brain would go into shut down mode. All I would have to do is hand over the card. They return all the info to you. They do not keep it on file or anything. They also offered these super sticky water proof stickers to put in the kids shoes that had emergency info on how to contact us if they are too scared to remember their phone # etc.
Obviously all this is absolutely terrifing but I believe it's better to be prepared.

That is a good idea, too. The idea of taking a daily picture, however, is to show what your child is wearing so that you can provide as much detail as possible to aid in the search. Makes me shudder to think about it.

I don't have any kids, but I bought my boss' daughters lanyards and some pins to start pin trading before their last trip. I suggested to my boss that she include the kids name, hotel and cell phone number to the lanyard (there was a plastic card like thing that had a picture of a character on it attached to the lanyard). It worked out very well for them (even though they didn't need it). It's always better safe than sorry.

I made tiny cards with the kids names, our names, hotel and cell phone # , laminated it and put it in their sneaker. They knew that if we got separated they were to find a cm or a mommy and let them see the card in their sneaker. Even though my older ones knew the cell # I knew they would probably forget the number in a panic.

I ordered one of those round plastic pet tags for my nephew. It was about $5. It said "If I am lost please call my aunt" then it had my name, my cell phone number and "staying at Boardwalk Villas." His tennis shoes were blue and white and I ordered it in blue with white writing and tied it into his shoe laces, writing side down. It did not have his name on it. He knew it was on his shoe, and could point to it if needed, but no one else could see the information.

I used those tags that you get in hospital as DD (or anyone else for that matter) can't get them off without scissors. I put basic info on them & luckily they were never needed.

I've read that if you go to Guest Relations at any park, you can get some sort of an ID for your children. I'm not sure what that is, though. I would recommend attaching your info (and theirs) to them. One suggestion I read was to go to your local hospital before you leave, and they will be happy to print an ID bracelet for you to put on the kids. (complete with name, address, etc). However, I'd call 1st to avoid going at a busy time. Have fun, we go July 19!!

Anyways...gosh..what an awful thought..and something I honestly didn't give thought to. I wonder if you can go to those 'pet tag machines' in walmart and have one made up there too. I like the tag idea on the shoe string..have a bracelet engraved at walmart too...probalby reasonably priced.

And...the digital camera idea...wonderful!

I may do the bracelet thing as a 'trip present' before we go down there - make it special to them...and a stress reliever for us

I must commend the idea of taking a digital photo.
I had planned to put their information on a tag for
them to carry, but never though about taking a photo
every morning. Super easy to do and could be a real
life saver.

It's only 5 bucks and they have free shipping. It's a velcro bracelet with a hidden id card in it that you can write your info on.

When we went in May, we had a 4 year old with us. This is what I made for her to wear each day - a paper that had basic info, including the name of our hotel, where we would meet in each park (such as the front of the carousel) and at the airport if we were separated, and on the back I put a picture of ME , that way, the cast members knew who they were looking for at the assigned meeting places. I laminated with packing tape, punch a hole in it, and hung it with a piece of soft yarn around her neck each day. (not TOO long!) You wouldn't believe the favorable comments I got from others who saw it!

Thankfully, we didn't need it...

When my son was 4 - he loved a little plastic Mickey Watch - we wrote his info on a round sticker and put it on the back. Yes we wrote it tiny but we got the phone numbers on there!

All the ideas posted are great for losing kids in the parks. Another place to check out is Kidz-idz 866-858-8362. Not sure if they have a website--you could search. They have kits and registration options that are very comprehensive.

Although DW and I do not have any children, we discussed this subject a short time ago. I have been to school and local organization events (Kiwanas, Lions, etc..) and have seen button maker machines. My idea was to make 4 buttons, 2 for DD or DS, one for mom, and one for dad. On each of the childs buttons you put a picture of the parent, conteact information, and other vital info. On the parents buttons you put a picture of the child. I am sure the button kits can't be expensive, but I have never seen them in stores. Just my $0.02....
