My entire family will be in WDW for my son's 1st birthday in June. Many DIS posters have told me to go to the Ice Cream Social for his birthday celebration. Is this a good idea? Will they do something special for his birthday?

Also, I noticed on another website that the time listed for the social is 3PM (and 3:15 during busy seasons). Are these times accurate?

Are reservations needed for the Ice Cream Social?

have heard good and bad reports about the ice cream social guess like all things you just get lucky. They may do something hope they do.

The times are accurate and you do ned a reservation. We didn't think it was great. Actually we call it WDW biggest rip-off around our house! The 6.95 covers the ice cream, drinks are priced separately at $2.00 each. For less than $20.00 more my family of four enjoyed a full dinner at Chef mickey's. The ice cream is pre-plated (ours tasted like freezer), lunch is still served while you are there so the characters and wiatstaff are busy with full paying customers, and we barely saw a character. Maybe it isn't always like this, but $40.00 + for ice cream, soda, tax and tip seemed like a really expensive afternoon treat for the four of us.:(

Since, its preplated do they give you extras if you want or no? I have the social booked for november and I was hoping it be a good way to catch the characters at a cheap price!! Maybe my experience will be better, Ill have to try it and let everyone know. Thanks again;)

No extras or seconds. It is one per person. They prep them early in the AM and place them in the freezer for serving time. Personally I found the ice cream to have an off (freezer taste). Depending on the size of your party it could be an inexpensive way to meet characters at the table. I found that for my family of four the over forty we paid for the ice cream, drinks (priced separately) tax and tip, we would have been better off with lunch at Crystal Palace(only about two dollars more) or Dinner at Chef Mickey's.

We are going to give it a try in December.......I've heard good and bad things but I figured we'd try it for ourselves. I always like to try something new!

Not sure if they'll do anything special for birthdays (be sure to ask when you check in!) but when we went we also did the rehitchin' ceremony for our wedding anniversary.

The CM does a fun quickie ceremony, and you get a souvenier certificate. Plus in our case Mickey himself served as best man (and tried to move in as groom). It was blast (a surprise for my husband), and we laughed more at this character meal than at Breakfastasaurus, our other one. Chip, Dale, and Pluto also stopped by, we got plenty of character interaction, and it's a bit more private due to the layout of Garden Grill.

The ice cream was nothing special, but better than average, and that's not what we were there for anyway!

For my daughter and I it was a wonderful experience. The serving was huge - it filled us up totally! Yes, we paid about $18 with the tip and ?1 milk, 1 coffee? Would I do it again - yes!

For me the draw was the ability to get sugar free ice cream sundae! I thought the flavor was excellent and the presentation of it on the plate was very cute.

The afternoon we went Farmer Mickey, Chip and Dale and ?Goofy were there and each came around 2 times I believe in the time we were there.

I thought it was a great escape from the mid-afternoon heat. Yes, maybe Crystal Palace would have been more cost effective in the long run but we really enjoyed it. It was our Epcot treat. (other than the Beavertail!)

To each his own!
