I'm looking for recent reviews of the Ice Cream Social. I've read the reviews on Deb Wils site but those reviews are 3 years old so I need a more recent review.

Thanks,

Larry

I went to it in September, so six months ago. It was two adults, but one great thing is that the characters give you lots of attention even if you're not the typical family!

Chip and Dale, Mickey, and maybe Pluto were there, all in denim overalls and other "country wear". It wasn't too full in the mid-afternoon, so we actually saw each of the characters at least twice. That's saying a lot, because since we were just there for the amount of time it takes to eat dessert, not a whole meal.

I definitely recommend it.

The reason I wanted to do it in particular is that back before it was this current menu (they had great tortellini, and salads made with hydroponic lettuce grown there in The Land), my family used to always eat at that restaurant when I was a kid. It was my favorite, because of how it rotates so that you see the landscapes from The Land ride.

We went in July, so my review is a bit older. I wouldn't do this if it was the only character gig in the "world." The most expensive scoop of ice cream we have ever had--almost $50.00 for the 4 of us (2 children/2adults--2 waters/2 sodas). Poor service and lousy character interaction. I'd rather pay for a full meal with good character interaction. I know others rave about it, but really it was one scoop of vanilla ice cream in a regular sugar cone glued with chocolate chips to a chocolate chip cookie. It was pre plated and tasted like freezer. If you go I hope you have better luck than we did!

My DW and I did this last November and we had a blast! The ice cream treat is somewhat pricey, but then so is everything at Disney! :p I really enoyed the sundae, but the character interaction was even better. Mickey came by first and spent quite some time at a table with only 2 adults. Chip n' Dale soon appeared and sat down with us to help us eat. Pluto stopped by also and made sure to give us both a big "slurp." It was loads of fun and a great break from a long day of trekking through Epcot. Highly recommended!

We went last Sept and loved it! I thought it was a great bargain for a character "meal" and the ice cream was good. We had lots of great character interaction even though one of the Chipmunks was a bit rabid lol

We went to the ice cream social in February 2003. We enjoyed it. The server was not overly friendly and slow to refill my coffee, but not rude or anything. (I think he was just busy, hard to tell since you can't see the other tables much though!) He was very good about letting me know that drinks were not included in the price. I paid $28.22 plus tip for two kids IC (6.75 ea), one adult IC (6.99), 2 cokes in souvenir cups (2.00) and a coffee (2.00). The ice cream was very good. We saw Pluto, Chip & Dale, and Mickey. They must have come around at least 3 times each, my kids are slow eaters though. They didn't spend a lot of time with us, but plenty since we saw them so many times. I thought this was a great break in the afternoon, and gave me a chance to really relax in a comfortable booth, as opposed to sitting on a bench eating a mickey bar somewhere in the sun. I would recommend it if your kids love ice cream and you want a break. The land was also interesting, we went almost one full rotation while we were there, and then had to go on the ride (since the kids saw the scenery). It would not be on my 'absolute must do' list, but I am planning on going again our next trip in July.
Happy Planning!!

Does anyone know if an adult can order a child's ice cream? I prefer to eat smaller portions and I don't like to waste food :p

I have to agree with the other poster-The most expensive ice cream I've ever had. I would rather have done the whole meal for the money. Also, the ice cream wasn't that good-for the money, I guess I expected at least a hot fudge sundae!

bunnfoo-

The adult/kids sundaes are basically the same size. The kids are a choc chip cookie with two big scoops of IC on it, with a waffle cone upside down on top. Sprinkles and gummy worms on it. The adults is the same, except the cone is 'glued' to the cookie right side up with hard chocolate, two big scoops of IC in the cone, sprinkles and gummy worms. The only difference other than that was that mine had a hard chocolate piece stuck in it, and one of those straw looking wafer things sticking out of it (the name of which escapes me!) My 6 yr old DD and I both basically finished ours, my 5 yr old DS did not.

Happy Planning!!

So glad that you asked this!!! We will be doing the ice cream social late April and I was also wondering what others thought about it. I was also wondering if anyone knows if you HAVE to order ice cream to be there. I had gastric bypass surgery and can't eat sugar and have become lactose intolerant. I'd rather not order it and waste it if I don't have to, but if you have to, then I will just see if my DH or one of my DDs will help me eat it. This is the only character meal I planned because I wasn't sure how my DD2 will react to the characters. ( I also didn't want to spend a fortune for a meal that I won't be able to eat more than 3 bites of)

Thanks for that Shelly! I thought one might be slightly smaller in size. If I have trouble finishing, I'll give the rest to my boyfriend :p

GoofieRuthie, try calling ahead and explain the situation ... they might offer you an alternative since you have special needs.
