3 years ago when I last visited DL I went on IASW the first day and I literally couldn't get the song out of my head the entire week I was there. I like the ride, and I want my kids to see it as well, but I'm worried about that song. Any strategies or techniques to be able to enjoy the ride without risking going crazy with the song in my head afterwards? Is this somewhat normal or do I have issues?

Hahaha... No real strategies, but I sometimes have that problem!! Maybe ride something else afterward with catchy music? Or, you could always try earplugs! :)

Aw, just go with it. It's a lovely song about nice things.

Also, one of my fave songs in the entire world. Fave ride, too.

Sorry I have to giggle. I know what you mean! Sadly, after a week of being home my five year old starting singing it and we only rode it once. It happens to kids, too!

if you have an Ipod or smart phone, put your ear plugs in and listen to some music while on the ride

I think I'll use earplugs since I won't bring earphones with me. I actually do like the song and would love to experience it. I would even love singing it 10 more times afterwards. My problem is I can't stop singing it in my head. I'll hum it, sing it out loud, sing it silently for days on end. I think I may have some kind of OCD so I should be careful. Thanks for the advice everyone!

In anticipation of my visit this week I even started singing it in the car so I know it's going to be bad.

We got stuck on that ride when my dd was 5. She commented, "Ok...totally sick of this song, now!" She is 11 and still dreads the song. :)

AHAHAHAHA!! My good friend, Disneyluvr2, shares your dread so of course we tease her with it mercilessly. What are friends for?

My advice: follow it up with Pirates. That is, if yo ho yo ho is preferable to you.

There's a reason they sell a shirt that says "I conquered it's a small world" in the little gift shop right by the ride! ;-P

Ride IASW and then go to the Tiki Room. That's the other song that always gets stuck in my head! :rotfl2:

The only true cure for an ear worm is a bigger, badder ear worm.

I don't like to tell people this unless they're desperate, because it's serious medicine, but if you really need to blast a song out of your head...

The theme from Sanford and Son. (Too young? YouTube it.)

It works every time, though you then have that stuck in your head, of course. But since you've been afraid of that Small World song for years, this might be your only hope.

(Sorry to everyone who's read this unawares and is now humming "Dunna..DUNNA. Dunna..DUNnaDunna dah....")

In WDW I worked across from that ride. Even on my day off I was eating dinner at Olive Garden and a child was singing that song. lol

Just reading this, I now have an earworm :rotfl:

"It's a world of laughter & a world of tears, its a world of hope and a world of fears..." is going through my head

Enjoy the ride. The song will linger but that's part of the joy of the ride, in my opinion. I feel that the music to Mr. Toad's Wild Ride is more addictive.

Oh, crud. Darn you to one of the inner circles of hell. (In my head, though, it's not Dunna DUNNA, it's Wadda WADDA, Wadda WADDA Wadda wah.)
