I'm hoping someone here might have some ideas for me...

We've driven to WDW from Indiana 10 times with my kids and before almost EACH trip, I tell myself I am going to write down, and take pictures of, interesting sites along the way to make a photo scavenger hunt for our next trip, and I've never done it!

Now we have my dbil and dsil driving down with their 6 kids in May with us for their first WDW trip and I really want to try and make it special for them...does anyone know if there is some sort of scavenger hunt available (photo or other) for I75 through Georgia and Florida?

I've looked on the i75exitguide and didn't see what I was looking for.

Thanks!

Would those "we bare all" signs count?:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: (As you know you see way more of those the further south you get)

Nah seriously, I am going in March and will be on the lookout.

I know there are signs for several tourist type places along the way. I.E. Kennesaw Mountain, Museum of Southern History, a Plantation, Andersonville, etc. but not sure you can actually see them from the road. (At 70+ MPH and driving I can't tell for sure)

You can see Turner field if you go through Atlanta and the dorms at Georgia tech that were built & used for the Olympics.

Have you thought of just making them game books? There are sites you can go to to make your own hidden word, crossword, etc. puzzles and make them all Disney related.

hehehe!

thanks for the thoughts!
I plan on making them activity books, but for the little ones, this is their first road trip, and my dsil is really wanting them to look around and SEE what they are driving by!

In the travel books that I have made for my kids (which I will make for the younger nieces and nephews), I have the license plate game, travel bingo, and a general travel scavenger hunt, as well as activity/info pages fopr each state we are driving through (and Disney activity pages, coloring pages, hidden pictures, etc).

We've traveled down there so many times that I bet if DH put our heads together, we could put together a list of things to see...thanks for your "starter list". I'd love to have something for every 10-20 minutes of the trip, with a hint of the general area to look for it (ex: between mile marker 10 and 20 in Georgia). This way, if they are interested, they could pick it up anytime during the drive.

thanks again.

any other ideas?

Have you also thought about purchasing the Along Interstate 75 book by Dave Hunter? Besides him listing every exits hotels, restaurants, and gas stations from Michigian to the Florida State Line, he also has history of a lot of the exits in each state. So maybe you can think of some fun questions for kids about the various exitis. Anyway here is a link to his website where you can see about ordering his book.

You're welcome and incase the book is not sold there you can always order threw the I-75 online website.

The Florence Y'all sign was the gateway to the south for us. You can see that water tower around the low 180s in northern KY.

There is a painted water tank heading northbound around exit 111 proclaiming Lexington, KY to be the "Horse Capital of the World". You will see the same words around Ocala, FL too. Everyone around here knows where the real Horse Capital is though, and it sure isn't in Florida.

Berea and Renfro Valley, KY could be stops, the cleanest bathroom on I75 is at exit 77 at the KY Artisan Center. They are open 8 to 8. The kids would probably ask "What is all this crap in here for sale?" but older adults may like it. It all depends on your tastes.

We have many interesting sites here in KY, but I75 is not the place to find them. The most entertaining thing through KY would be to count the number of dead deer along the road. We counted 17 in a 10 mile stretch last trip to Cincinnati.

Now TN, that's a different matter. The abandoned ferris wheel and the giant inflatable gorilla on top of the building around mm 140ish lets us know where we are.

Yeah u have to love the we bare all signs..Lets u know your really getting close..I always like the exit with the old ferris wheel and the big fireworks store..It makes for a good break and the kids love it..We're from indiana leaving march 14..

Years ago, there were numerous billboards (we're talking dozens - literally - even more prevalent than we bare all) for a tourist trap called Magnolia Plantation. I *think* it's long gone - at least the saturation advertising is - but it might be intersting to look for a few old, faded signs along the way through southern Georgia. I want to say there are some left, but don't hold my fuzzy memory to that, please. There were also once (still? Perhaps obscured?) some old, semi-abandoned airplanes off the northbound side of I-75 in northern Georgia, near a grass landing strip.

A few other landmarks I generally note along I-75 are when the Atlanta skyline first becomes visible (and also a huge church of some denomination off to the left of southbound travel in Atlanta - it'll be obvious), the rocket/missile just off the interstate in Cordele (visiable from I-75), and a bridge overpass near Ocala with shrubbery growing along its length.

yup...i know all of them! and the "magnolia plantation" signs are all still there as of 2 weeks ago! (shockingly, we took the kids to FL and DIDN'T go to WDW  ) we love searching for the "animal bridge",too. the peanut and the big peach (water tower?) are also good ones!

one of our new favorites is the rest stop in northern FL (my DH thinks it's about exit 400 or so) that has an overlook bridge shaped like a snake....you can see the body and the tongue as you are heading back north, but i'm not sure what you can see southbound. i believe the overlook is over a nature preserve. this is an awesome stop as it is quirky and that ramp/bridge is a nice long run for the kids!

oooh, and what was the rest area in FL that had the alligators????? (DH will know........................****brief consultation w/DH*****) the alligators are, according to DH, at the same rest area as the snake ramp! FDOT obviously knows that at least 2 alligators live in the swampy run off to the north of the facilities bldg. because there is a big fence around it. THAT was a huge hit! this stop, along with our other fav, the nickajack dam near chatanooga, are our 2 must do's on the drive down!

you mean the "big daddy fireworks" place? i've always been a bit spooked by those signs...we've never stopped. how is it?

are you driving?

I second Dave Hunters book! We buy a new one each time we drive (every other year) and donate the old one to the library.
