I won't give in till I reach the end... and then I'll start again (comments welcome)

Week 16 of 16 of my first-ever marathon training plan

I'm sitting here stressing at Pittsburgh Airport, waiting for my delayed Air Canada flight and hoping I can get home tonight. I just need to get home before the end of the afternoon tomorrow so I can pick up my bib. Business travel the week before my marathon was not ideal, but it was not a trip I could have ever gotten out of.

I discovered the beautiful Heritage Trail that follows the banks of the rivers in Pittsburgh for my runs. Really nice, except for the fact that it was mostly concrete. I don't like running on non-asphalt or dirt surfaces.

Monday
  • Off
Tuesday
  • 30-45 minute Easy Run
  • Planned: 35:00 @ 6:27-6:56 min/km
    • Completed: 5.69 km ~ 39:17 (6:54 min/km)
    • 76% in zone 2
Wednesday
  • Recovery Day (Off, Cross-Train or Optional Run)
  • Planned: 30:00 @ 6:27-6:56 min/km
    • Completed: 4.01 km ~ 30:00 (7:29 min/km)
  • Did this run on the hotel treadmill. I'm convinced my treadmill at home is way faster than indicated, cause I ran almost my normal pace and did not feel exhausted. At home, I have trouble keeping a 8min/km pace without getting out of breath.
Thursday
  • Tempo Run
  • Planned: 10-15 min WU + Tempo Run: 10 minutes + 10-15 min CD
    • Completed: 5.67 km ~ 40:01 (7:03 min/km)
Friday
  • Off
  • Hopefully I can sleep in my own bed tonight. :'(
Saturday
  • I have a 20-minute shakedown run planned

Sunday
- Race time!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wish me luck!

Good luck with your travels and your race! Travel days always wear me out more than expected so don't forget to take some time to rest up when you can.

Good luck!!!! You are prepared and I’m cheering for you!

Oh, concrete. Everything here is concrete so I do at least some concrete on almost every single run. I have 1 asphalt paved trail that I use for long runs because I have to drive to it and a couple of dirt trails in the neighborhood that I incorporate as regularly as possible just to get off the concrete. I will say being forced to run on concrete has encouraged me to pay attention to my form and fix some things that were causing some wear and tear. I also go through shoes faster than a lot of people I know because I can feel when the cushion is going. It’s hard to get a few more miles out of shoes when you’re on concrete.

Yeah I've been injured a few times in the past, so I'd be worried I'd get hurt even more. Kudos to you for doing all this

Amazing. It took me 4 tries to get down to a 5hr 15 min marathon so you are way ahead of me!
