My daughter answered the phone when she got home from school last night (before I got home from work). There was a recording that used my name and said that I had won a trip to WDW on Air Canada and that included staying at a resort where all meals and drinks would be included in the prize. DD got very excited until the recording said that I had to pay $300.00 for each person that was going on the trip. I was to press 1 if I agreed with the terms of the prize. She hung up. I don't remember entering a contest that sounds like this. Wouldn't a live person have called me, not a recording? Why would I have to pay any money to claim something I "won"? When I did a reverse lookup of the phone number it was out of Michigan. It really sounds like a scam.

It is a scam. No one should ever have to pay money to claim a prize.

Um, my guess is scam. They have been warning a number of people of many different vacation scams like this. Someone would definately have contacted you if you had entered a contest.

SCAM. give the number a call. See what they have to say. Tell them if they pay YOU $300, you will not repoprt them....:lmao:

It probably was a scam. In the past I have filled out a couple of these entry forms that offer a free vacation. You can usually find them at restaurant counters or in some stores. I stopped after I got calls telling me that I won but I had to pay x-amount of money to get the trip. I just stopped filling them out. It’s just some travel companies way of selling vacations to people. When you look at it, its really not a prize or a deal. Beware.

I have won a similar vacation at LEAST 5 times in the last 3 months. They are trying to get you to sign up for something. You haven't really won anything.

My 5 kids and myself all filled out entry forms at a sportsman show to win a vacation to florida. Guess what ? We all got calls saying we won. Its definately a scam. I have also got that same call about Air Canada about 6 times.

See if the scammers have a call back number. Report the incident to your carrier and the police.

The only thing that is too good to be true and isn't is DVC.

I couuld tell you about my experiences on Craigs List & Kijiji of the scams I've been sent.
I usually try and have a little fun at the scammers expense.

Some fplks have set up a website about how to deal with the scammers. If you want to have a good laugh click on the 419 image.

This was most definitely a scam.

I work in promotions and marketing and one of my key duties is giving away prizes. Most reputable organizations that award prizes do so as one would expect -- without any payment due.

The company I work for recently gave away a car, and the winner didn't even have to pay registration taxes or HST. We covered that as well.

All the trips and so forth that we give away are also completely free to the winner with exceptions noted in their prize release. The exceptions are incidentals and personal choice expenditures while on the trip.

My cousin won a car from a drawing in a mall he bought a raffle ticket for, but had to pay the taxes.

All above board. He received a brand new car & full warranty from the dealership for $3800. Not bad.

But the folks who call you out of the blue should be avoided.

My vote is for a scam too ... especially Air Canada with a Michigan number.

I've gotten a few calls in the last few months where a recording tells me that I've won a trip or cruise to the Caribbean and that I just need to "Press 9" to claim my prize ... the recording then just repeating "remember, you need to press 9. Press 9 now ...." I just hang up.

True, yes that's true, you need to pay the taxes normally. But not to the prize provider :)

Congats to him tho!
