I know that this would not be a popular option for those with toddlers but it is frustrating having to book a HA unit just to get the higher toilet. I know that the extender rings work for some people but not DH (don't ask for details. You don't want to know). There is only 1 HA BW view unit, a 2 bedroom that can be split into a 1 bedroom and a studio. As you might guess, it is hard to book for the beginning of December. I considered walking but didn't feel right about it and now we are out of luck. I have actually considered asking DVC if we could pay to have a higher toilet installed in one of the BW view one bedrooms but we wouldn't be able to guarantee that we could get that unit when we book anyway. <sigh> I guess I will be looking for the 2016 DVC Christmas ornament on eBay!

What about a commode chair with the pan removed? When I had my knee replaced I had a hard time getting on the toilet and the commode chair over the toilet worked great.

I wonder if they have the elevators that will make them higher and can be clamped on.

Yes they need older adult friendly rooms. Many of us will buy dvc when we are young but will have it all the way too our older years. The adult friendly rooms should be where you don't have to walk a half mile to get to your room also.

Are there other HA rooms in another view? I would wait list, it's possible if someone is walking they could pass your dates.

I have asked for and received a chair with rails to help me stand.

Jean, I am sorry to hear about your inability to get what you want. Is there a pool view that would work?

try contacting a local medical supply they will have the seat s that fit over the toilet you can rent. Unless you have somewhere to store it or you drive most are to big for an owners locker.
To accommodate the general public the seats are the proper height, It would be unfair to everyone else to make all the seats higher for the few that need them. Personally I hate the HA rooms but maybe a few more would be in order as we DVC'ers age.

The seats that bolt onto the toilet don't work for DH. As I said before, I won't go into details. We have a frame stored with our Owner's Lockers that bolts on and provides rails on both sides of the toilet but that does not help with his terrible knees if the toilet is low. I may go to a medical supply to see if Deb's idea of using a commode over the toilet with the pan removed might work.
I guess we will try a different view. As it is the BW view HA room a has the balcony with a solid wall rather than the slats so DH only can see if he stands and he can't stand for very long, so a pool/garden view might at least have a balcony with slats. I do think the the slightly higher toilets would not be a problem for most people. Many public bathrooms actually have the higher ones in all stalls. The toddlers in our family even use our 17 inch high toilets with no problems.

Since raised toilets are a requirement for you, HA units are your only real choice, most able bodied people, even adults, find the raised ones uncomfortable. Being open to different resorts that have availability would be your best option, if your first choice is booked up, and as with all DVC reservations, early planning is the best option to get what you want. I know that for Christmas next year, I need to plan early and book my home resort of OKW, which I love and haven't stayed at another DVC since 92, but I'm ready to try a different resort...and I realize there may be no availability for it at the 7 month window, especially since I'll need more than one room. Of course, I know you're a long time owner, and are just venting your frustration at the lack of options for your specific needs. :) I keep hoping when my OKW expires in 2042, part of it will be converted to a nursing home to house elderly members. :o

I did book a pool/garden HA 1 bedroom at BWV and waitlisted BW view. Other results aren't a good option for DH because one of his medical problems makes it easy for him to be disoriented. (I LOVE trying other resorts and am glad that I have been able to try most of them before DH became disabled.) He is so familiar with BWV that he is less likely to get lost (although that has happened a couple of times even at BWV). Thanks for your comment about the higher toilets being uncomfortable for able-bodied folks. I had no idea. I am able-bodied but love the high toilets for myself! And an assisted-living DVC sounds like a good plan to me. Perhaps we should plant that idea in the minds of DVC powers-that-be! :-)

Yeah, they don't bother me, either. But I had some elderly aunts that just hated the raised toilets, and one of them was nearly 6' tall, so I found it odd that she hated them.

I am an older adult and I prefer the raised toilets. I, too, wish they had "comfort" level toilets in at least part of the villas. Off topic, but I also wish they had duvets with removable covers. I find the blankets heavy if I put more than one on the bed and I am cold at night unless I add additional blankets to the single thin blanket DVC provides.

I don't consider the toilets at Kidani to be low at all, much higher than what we have at home. Maybe the newer resorts have higher ones.

I think many of the older resorts have the old 14.5 in toilets, most newer toilets are "comfort height" which I believe is usually just over 16 inches measured to the rim. ADA recommendations are 17-19 inches but I believe that's to the seat so comfort height should be close to that if not meeting that.

Lately I've been running into a lot of round toilets vs. the more oval shape (not specifically at Disney). Those round versions are awful.

In addition to higher toilets, I'd like to put in an order for taller shower heads at some of the resorts. I real pain to have to bend under the shower head to wash my hair.

While we are talking about it, could they please raise the toilet paper holders to about elbow height? Right at my knees or lower doesn't help at all. ADA is supposed to be higher.

We always used to rent the commode seat/stand for my mother when we went to WDW thru Care Medical. One time we got the same type thru the resort at AKV and I think that is what the resorts have if a higher toilet height is required. My sister has required higher seats since I was a toddler so I know full well how most of the bolt on ones border on dangerous if you really have strength or balance issues. We were at PVB in Oct and I had huge concerns because the HA studio I reserved for my sister specifically state that it had LOWER toilets. :headache: As it turned out it was the comfort height which I also think has been installed in most of the new resorts and I think might be going in for the refurbs. Perhaps BWV has gotten the comfort height in the newly refurbished rooms? I'll be in a regular room in Feb and then an HA 2BR (P/G) in April so will have a good comparison.

Both DH and I are able bodied and far prefer the higher seats also.
