ETA: Thread started in 2011. Read on, funny.

Seriously!

My 70-year old father had a BLAST when he traveled with us to WDW a couple of years ago. Since then, he acquired Tucker, his Miniature Australian Shepherd. No kennel is good enough for Tucker and after reading recent Best Friends reviews, I agree. He loves that dog!

I believe one pet-friendly resort would be a HUGE hit with guests. Tiled floors, dog park, pet bed area, walking service, etc.

I don't think that is a good idea. Such a resort could not survive on dog owners only.
There would be to much problems dealing with other guests. Noise, peeing, allergic people, dogs biting and so on.
And this is coming from some one that loves her dog to death :rotfl2::rotfl2: but no, dogs would only mean trouble for ALL of the guests.

I think a dog friendly resort would be a huge hit... We have several local resorts that offer this and they are always booked. The campgrounds does offer pet friendly sites so that may be an option. If you dont have an RV, they are avaliable for rent. The cabins might be a good option since they are already stand alone. I would definatly look in to this if it was an option.

No thank you! Unless they built a full resort where animals were allowed (which would be a waste of resources since you would have a limited number of customers) so that other guests don't have to hear/deal with them. I hate resorts that allow animals because not all pet owners are responsible enough.

Oh, and I have multiple dogs and love them to pieces... but they don't belong at Disney with me.

Sums it up for me too. I have a wonderful little yorkie poo but I avoid hotels that are pet friendly like the plague! Can you imagine all the barking dogs :scared1:

Hi There!
The Fort is a pet friendly resort, however I'm not sure that they are welcomed in the cabins. There is a dog park and walk area in the Fort and many of the camping loops are pet friendly. You might want to check to see if the cabins are pet friendly as well. Just a thought!

Pets are not allowed in the Cabins at FW. Only at the campsite.

I love my two Shiba babies like they are my children but there is no way that I would bring them on vacation with us. First off, I would be too afraid that something would happen to them while I was gone, like them getting out and lost. I would be absolutely devastated and heart broken. Second the barking from other dogs would drive me up a wall. My babies only bark when they are supposed too. That was one of the reasons why we picked this breed. Third there are other pet owners that are not as responsible as I am and don't pick up after their animals. :furious: So for me it's a no go on the pet friendly resort. Sorry.:flower3:

Last year we stayed at Portofino Bay at Universal just so that we could bring our dog. We were in a wing with other dog owners and never even heard another dog. The hotel is extremely accomodating to pets but we could not take him to the restaurants or to the pool area. We just adapted because we did not want to leave him at home. We took our dog to a doggie day care during the day and he was able to be with us in the evenings. One night we hired a dog sitter to be in the room with him so that we could go to the parks in the evening.

Next May we are bringing our dog again now that Best Friends is open and I actually booked his deluxe Villa before I even made our reservation at AKL. We do not have anyone to leave him with at home and I would love to be able to keep him in the resort with us.

We stayed at the Portofino many times and the Hard Rock Hotel once and we never heard any dogs at all and there were dogs there while we were there. You are right they are very accommodating to pets and their owners.

And there's a problem right there. If someone can't take their dog to Disney World and get into the only dog friendly resort, are they going to still go to Disney World?

Sure they are and they will probably sneak their animal into the non-pet room because they tried to get the pet friendly and couldn't get it and they deserve to have their pet with them....

Not my father; mom says she's leaving him and his dog home and going to WDW without him.

I hadn't considered renting an RV; good idea. I'm wondering if there's a service that delivers an RV to the campsite? Sounds sort of ridiculous but worth investigating.

Actually, I think there is someone who rents their RV out to people at the campgrounds. I have never stayed at the campgrounds, but read somewhere about this (probably on the Disboards that deals with Fort Wilderness). I don't know if the person who rents their RV allows animals and there are a limited amount of sites that allow pets. I'm sure there are some campers here who could help you out with that. Good luck!

We took our rescued Beagle to the Hard Rock and had a WONDERFUL time, except we hadn't thought to get him used to elevators ;). I know there were other dogs there, but we never heard and rarely saw them.

Great staff and hotel!!!!

Terri

1) Some of us do want to stay where other pets stayed.
2) We hope WDW never goes pet friendly.
3) Please, leave your pets at home.
4) Pets do not need to travel, IMHO.

AMEN. I don't have pets for a reason. And they are NOT people...they are animals.

I don't want YOUR pet's fleas in my room...sorry.

Being married to an asthmatic with very bad allergies, we book our vacations based on resorts that don't allow pets.

If WDW would do this, please keep this to one resort. Let the animal owners have their space!

I dont think the dogs should be in the resort even though mine are in my house. It would be nice for them to have a resort that would have a kennel near the resort so you could walk to it and keep in touch with your dog. Like maybe a short walk down a path would be great ! I always miss my dog a lot when Im gone, I think I miss him more than my relatives :rotfl:

I love my two fur babies (a chihuahua and a dachshund) but I wouldn't want to stay in a "pet friendly" room. Some dogs aren't bathed enough and can smell bad and even a well-trained pet can have an accident while in a new environment. I do, however, really like the idea of having a kennel within easy walking distance of a resort for pet lovers. It would be nice to visit the dogs on vacation instead of leaving them at home with a pet sitter.
