Unfortunately for Mrs. Heinz Kerry, the general public would probably not take the time to do such thorough backgroud research, but will remember angry or off-the-cuff remarks.
Politics is a dirty business.
I don't believe for a minute that Mrs. Kerry's outburst was off-the-cuff. She knew exactly what she was doing. I suspect she was counting on folks like Conason to pick up the background story. If the shove-it story lasts through many more news cycles, mainstream media will eventually tell the other side.
I'm sensing a coordinated effort on the part of the Kerry campaign to "out" what Media Matters calls the Republican Noise Machine.
