I Was Surprised That There Was Not More "Chatter"...

Personally I think all she did was make herself look bad.
And if her husband is elected President the press is going to have a field day with her.
Gee...the press constantly attacking an outspoken democratic first lady.....How will we ever learn to cope with such a new experience ?

Maybe the Republicans would all be happier if the "women-folk" just shut up and went back in the kitchen ? That seems to be the consensus, from what I can tell.

I'm having flash backs to when Hillary was first lady and didn't want to be in the kitchen 'baking cookies"...;)

Big stinkin' deal in IMHO! Apparently that reporter was badgering her, right in her face. I'm a big respector(geez, is that even a
word  ) of personal space & I'm sure that I would've reacted the same way. He was clearly antagonizing her and took a piece of what she said. The media is known for doing this! Of course if you take one little piece of something that someone says it will sound way more horrible than how it was meant to be in the first place.

Get over it already! She's an awesome woman regardless!:Pinkbounc Go Teresa!!!!:bounce:

If you think that differentiating between unamerican activities and unamerican traits is nitpicking, then there is no point in continuing this discussion whatsoever. This is one of those "either you get it or you don't" things. Unamerican activities has ties to one of the most shameful periods in American history...to try to put those words in someone's mouth is disgusting. And this "reporter" who is in fact not a reporter but an editorial writer knew precisely what he was doing.

There seems to be little point in continuing any discussion in hee. People have alligned with sides and no matter what happens they will stand up for their side. Right or wrong.

I "get" what you're trying to say. I know my history. I just find the argument without basis.

The reporter clearly asked her what precisely she had said and she declined to elaborate (because she did, in fact, say un-American).

Mind you, I don't think this incident was any big deal. But she was clearly and unambiguously in the wrong. Debating that is pointless. It's on tape.

A little background on the "reporter"--he's a mouthpiece for Richard Mellon Sciafe--a right wing idealogue who has funded lots of partisan "journalism". Here's a link to "Who is Richard Mellon Sciafe"

http://www.cnn.com/ALLPOLITICS/1998/04/27/scaife.profile/

The paper the reporter works for had disingenously tied the Heinz Foundation to a foundation that it suggested had a radical left agenda. Despite evidence to the contrary, the paper continued to run with the story for about a year.

Personally, I think THK knew exactly what she was doing when she went back to the reporter and told him what to do. A number of stories I read explained the Richard Mellon Sciafe angle to the plot. It's an effort to help persuadable voters to understand the influence right wing idealogues have on the way the news is spun to us.

Last night Mrs. Kerry made me very proud to be an "opinionated" woman (and Barack Obama made me proud to be from Illinois).

And isn't it amazing that this little tidbit isn't spoken of ? This man's paper has attacked her for ages, and she responds with a fairly mild "shove it"...and the hypocritical right goes through the roof... :rotfl:

To heck with that...Obama made me proud to be a democrat, and an American ! Just an incredible speech...Better than Clinton's, even...

As one who rarely votes for Democrats (it has happened! honest!), I'd agree about Obama's speech. By far the best in the convention, IMO. The Dems would do well to keep him in the spotlight.

Yes, Beattyfamily, I did see the video. She was amongst a bunch of people walking and he approached her. Asked her what she meant by "un-american activities" and she said numerous times that is not what she said. Like I said, you can take pretty much anything someone says out of context or change a word and it becomes a very different story.

I didn't see it the way you did.

BedKnoberry2, thanks for that link to an EDITORIAL.

My comment had to do with the fact that cursing has occured before and will occur again on the senate floor. I didn't say it was right, did I??? I was just pointing out that it happens.

Beattyfamily, I guess you just have a different perspective on things. That's fine, that's what makes life fun! :)

Thank you for being nice to me although we may disagree! It's refreshing!::yes::

Think the Republicans will have any easier time finding someone to run against him after that performance?

Of course, why wouldn't I be? I'm sure that we have far more things in common than we do differences. After all, we are both on this board, aren't we? ;)

I thought the same thing last night...I don't think Ditka decided he didn't want to run for the senate...I think he was afraid to run against him ::yes::

There is no way in h-e-double hockey sticks I'd risk a political career in a run against him...Losing is bad enough, but getting beat by 20 or 30 points would be downright embarrassing :teeth:

I'm sorry, I took your "ROFLMBO Yeah right" response to my statement that it is akin to cursing in church as disbelief that that is how it is viewed.

I don't disagree that it's happened before, and will happen again, either. Someone had asked why it was made out to be a bigger deal than THK's comments, and I was explaining why that was; I never implied that it hadn't ever happened before, and wouldn't happen again.

In Mrs. Heinz Kerry's defense, I am sure that having reporters after you all the time stinks. It's not a choice I would make for myself, that's for sure. However, by virtue of being married to Senator Kerry and, I assume, being part of his decision-making process in deciding whether or not to run for President, she did in fact choose to put herself and her family into the glare of the media spotlight.

Also, while we all realize that she is not the one running for President, make no mistake that spouses of politicians or political candidates are as much a part of the whole "process" as the actual candidate. Spouses have quite a bit of influence over the candidate, consequently, if the candidate becomes President, that means the spouse will have quite a bit of influence over the President. Whether she likes it or not, whether it's fair or not, whether it's logical or not, and whether we DISers like it or not, the fact remains that the behavior of a spouse can reflect, either positively or negatively, on the candidate/politician.

I agree that the woman is human, and we all lose our tempers, and perhaps it was a well-deserved "shove it". For all we know, this guy may have been badgering her for weeks or even months, and she finally had enough.

One incident is just that...one incident. She must take care not to have too many of these "one incidents" because if they start to add up is when some people will start to take notice.

Well, thanks for that background!!! Very interesting.

Unfortunately for Mrs. Heinz Kerry, the general public would probably not take the time to do such thorough backgroud research, but will remember angry or off-the-cuff remarks.

Politics is a dirty business.:(
