The CR holds a special place in my heart, as it is the first (and thus far only) onsite resort I've stayed at. So for the longest time I've thought that I didn't like it because I didn't want a big new building there. But now I realize that I'm not opposed to the construction of a CR DVC. I just hate the design. I think the "C" building looks ugly, and would really look out of place next to the clean angles of the A-frame tower. I think if they would build a more "normal" looking building there that would fit in with the current tower; it would look a little better. My hope is that the drawing that was leaked was more of a concept design, much like new sports stadiums go through many concept designs before a final design is agreed upon.

nuts said:You are spot on. There are over 30 concept art diagrams in DVC's hands for various projects. Some might actually be implemented, and others not. CRV isn't looking good according to my source (not impossible, but unlikely). Lots of folks are jumping to conclusions over a water shed project at the STOL. Folks are assuming this means demolition of the North Wing. Time will tell.

......
I am not at all opposed to a Contemporary DVC (though I tend to think there are even better locations on and off the Monorail), but it needs to be done the right way, particularly in such a prominent location practically at the gates of the Magic Kingdom. The 'leaked' design clearly isn't the right way - either in location or architectural styling.
asianway said:Yes, obviously removing hundreds of rooms from inventory, moving the furniture out, putting nothing back in, preparing a staging area for construction, and filing permits for demolitions means we shouldnt assume the building is coming down. Have you been by the north wing recently? I think your source really has no clue what is going on.

Preservation of history in no way, of course, precludes necessary and very appropriate refurbishments, additions, extensive remodeling, or even a DVC add-on. But leave the garden wings in place. If you think such historical preservation here is misplaced or unimportant, consider how you would feel if tommorrow the announcement came that Disney was tearing down the castles in WDW and Disneyland. Now, the Contemporary doesn't occupy the same status as the castle, but just where do you draw the line? Once history is lost, its gone forever. Probably the Vacation Villas weren't so 'historic', and thus worthy of preservation (any location will always hold senntimental value to somebody, of course), but the Contemporary (in its entirety) is a symbol of Walt Disney World.
