I Was Ready to Put Contemporary DVC Rumor to Bed...But

That's it. Thanks.

It seems there are so many things pointing to DVC at the Contemporary. The demolition permit. The permit to house contractor trailers at STOL for DVC @ Contemporary. The architects drawing of the CRV (in place of the North Wing). CMs have told numerous people that DVC is coming to the Contemporary.

I guess we will have to wait and see. I suspect that if the North Wing is coming down - it will happen soon.

I think the original north wing was short for a reason: a high-rise there will look bad. Now I'm all for a monorail DVC, but not at the expense of the landscape.

:wizard:

the north wing could not be taller than the 4th floor - because the cont rooms start then and go up.

the new design (if they use one Tink10 showed us) is NOT in front of the Cont.

the north wing is in front of the Cont.

Disney is pretty good about determining what will look go. Have faith. :grouphug:

Although a Contemporary DVC tower will be nice from the inside, isn't anyone concerned that the monorail loop will be following the pattern of International Drive? Just another high rise randomly planted where it is convenient and profitable.

Disney isn't going to take a chance of getting blamed for another Harbor Blvd. type fiasco, assume they'll take asthetics into account. From the C-shaped rendering I've seen floating around in a few siggies, think it would be somewhat hidden from view beside/behind the CR.

As much as I luv the CR, the bunker-like N. & S. buildings certainly aren't attractive on the outside...a highrise would be an improvement.

If they build on the landing strip, don't think it'd be an eyesore either. Many people approach the MK via the parking lot. Don't think many people pay much attention to that area either, had a few folks chuckling in monorail when I was taking a series of pics of the area last trip...probably wondering why I wanted pics of scrub land.

Don't recall an uproar when the Grand Fl. was built.

The detective work on these boards amazes me!!!!

Thanks for posting your find. It does look promising for CRV at some point. We probably won't ever buy there, but would love to stay there for a trip or two. :)

Ten stories just to the north of CR would be quite prominent it seems to me.

That's why it's nice to have them so low and somewhat hidden among trees. I think someone was under the mistaken impression that buildings would look like that in the future.

I have to admit I had a twinge at the thought of another resort on that magical lake before GF was built, but it turned out to be quite beautiful. However, these plans aren't reminiscent of the spirit of that project -- to me.

they won't be in front of the CR. the north wing right now is - I think they would be less prominent because they will be to the side - not in front of the building.

lots of people though that VWL would just ruin WL. Also the comments were made about BCV and BC.

they both look fine to me.

Have you seen Harbor Blvd in the last few years? It's really cleaned-up. the redevelopment junked the tacky signs and replaced them with coordinated, more subtle signs. They added lots of nice landscaping. The motels are still there but the street is much improved.
Your hotel tax dollars at work.

My mom spoke to her friend in Fla. whose daughter works for Disney in the insurance dep't. My mom's friend said she she had some news and it was that a DVC was going to be built at the Contemporary. She also said that some DVC. project was going to be out near the All Star resort. This might be the project a sure Miceage article is referring to.

Her daughter checks out anything new that Disney does for insurance purposes. She was one of the first people on the Magic when it arrived here in 1998, is one of the first to ride any new rides they open, etc.

Interesting. All Stars? So are they gonna put a DVC VALUE inside the Legendary Years that has been sitting there for years uncompleted? Mousetunes did say a couple shows back that it had the green light for construction again. What did Miceage say?

I found a link to the Miceage article on this board. I'm sorry but I don't know howto post a link. The thread is Down the road DVC rumor. This is what was posted:
http:www.miceage.com/Kevinyee/110706a.htm

I hope this helps. The project is the Western Beltway project. I'm not usre if this is near the Allstar resort.

It is rumored that Disney is planning a new tourist and retail development near the newly constructed Western Way junction with the Western Beltway. (Western Way skirts the edge of Coronado Springs on the Blizzard Beach side. )The focus of the development is set to be "value" based, and includes shopping, dining, and accommodation.

Features:

270,000 sq ft retail town centre, expanding up to 400,000 sq ft at build-out
Retail outlets
Grocery store
Casual sit-down dining
Fast food locations
Gas stores
Convenience stores
Gift stores
3100 value hotel rooms
1300 time share units
Bus transportation stops

Wow, this is the first I've heard of this. I did hear about another town similar to celebration. Is this it?

We took the Western Way last trip and it was awesome.

I'm surprised by the timeshare units???

hey first they need to finish Pop century. then they can build other hotels.

I though the new President promised the stockholders no new hotels or theme parks for several years.

Pop is not a new hotel just an unfinished one.

timeshares (like the DVC) bring in money - so they are fine to expand.

this may not be DVC - since they are trying for values minded people - it might be sometime like Horizons is for Marriott (although I still think Pop would be a better choice than this area)

No...I'd sure like to though:) , hopefully when they build DVC out there

I thought Disney sold off a parcel of land somewhere in the AS area to outside development several months ago...would this be the same area?

Still think if the CR is built on the North site, as long as it's not as tall as the tower (14 stories?) it wouldn't be that noticeable. Currently, I struggle to catch views of the CR Tower in the park from Tomorrowland while I wait for my family to ride SpMt. repeatedly. Don't think most guests would care if they built another structure or not as to obstructing their view/being an eyesore...espec. if it's to the rear of Tower MK balcony sightlines. We shall wait & see.:thumbsup2

From my understanding of this RUMOR the "value rooms" might be 3rd party and a few years down the line.
The park mentioned in this is rumor is an area with fountains and footpaths not a theme park. The timeshares are called timeshares not DVC's so I think they would be 3rd party also.

JMHO

The is just an educated guess from what I gathered so far.

PS I wish Disney would finish the unfinished area of Pop.

Suites or so some kind of DVC would be fine IMHO. It just seems a shame to have those unfinished rooms gathering dust like that!

WooHoo!

A permit for a construction trailer compound has been filed with the Orange County Comptroller now. Of course, that document doesn't state DVC as the one on the water management site did. Also, the construction company is listed as Hardin- the same as on the "general demolition" permit. The end date for the trailer compound is also the same as on the demolition permit- Dec 28, 2007.

Does 3801 N. World Drive sound like it would be the STOLport?
