I Was Ready to Put Contemporary DVC Rumor to Bed...But

I think you guys are misreading this. The newest DVC is going to be housed in a bunch of construction trailers parked at the Contemporary. Jeff Foxworthy is to the the hotel manager or executive host. Hooooo-boy!

Maybe they will have some two-story trailers (for folks that gots money).

Look at the bright side: Construction Trailers=no hallways

I'm just a little disappointed that Troy or Tink didn't discover and post this. Maybe they're off doing detective work on the new DCL ships? One can only hope.

Very Interesting! I'm just wondering though, would someone also be able to find the same type of documents for the Eagle Pines project that got put on the back-burner indefinitely? Just because there's some documentation, it's doesn't mean we'll see anything come of it.

I agree, it could still go either way. It's looking more positive but I'm waiting for the wreaking ball.

Wow!!!!

I wished for the CRV for my 40th Birthday on September 6 and that's the date of the permit!!!! :wizard:

Let's hope!!

It looks like the plans were all submitted in July and were approved in the beginning of September. There is also an entry on this site for DVC at AKL, but there are no detailed plans posted for that yet. Once they are posted, I'd be interested to see the date of those plans. I'm wondering if they would have been done in the same timeframe as the Contemporary paperwork, or if they were done later once focus shifted to AKL.

I think (ok, hope) the North Wing is being demolished and these plans are further proof of the DVC project to follow. I just keep wondering when Disney will finally announce it if that's the case...

When they can't hide it any longer.

Untill it happens, we will keep on waiting.

The SCOOP.

oooooomagic

Gotta love the DIS and all the people scouring the internet for HARD EVIDENCE.

This is the kinda thing that really keeps me coming back here.

Good work.

This is the same reply that I posted on the "other site" which is where I first saw the information posted regarding the STOL site use.

In reading the South Florida Water Mgmt. Districts documents I noticed that one of the external distribution parties of the document was "DRMP, Inc.". On their website they list as one of their prior projects as the "Eagle Pines Resort" at WDW. There is then a detailed description of the "DVC" resort size, acreage, etc..

In all of the posts I have read on the various sites regarding the Contempoary DVC building this is the first where I have seen actual permits and Florida State Govt. acknowledgment of this project.

Given that Disney is using this 2.89 acre parcel, the STOL landing strip, as a "construction trailer compound" in conjunction with the architectural rendering of the 15(?) story building that was revealed by "Tink" back in August it appears to me that this is indeed the next DVC after AKL. The start-up/completion time for a project of this size could well be 3-4 years. Which would put it in line to begin sales as DVC/AKL are their last stages of sales.

What do the rest of you think?

Well all I know for sure was DVC at the Contemporary was very much a sure thing until recently. I was told by very reliable management at Disney it was. Then suddenly the focus changed to AKL. That said, I have also been told that at this time, the rehab to the North Wing will continue, but no one has said DVC there in the future is out.

So at this point I am no longer sure. They could rehab the rooms in the North Wing at this time and still build the new building for DVC. I don't think that DVC at the Contemporary is off the drawing board, I just thing the focus and plans have changed. I think the North Wing is going to remain a part of the actual resort.

But hey with Disney all is subject to change, literally over night.

Recently someone posted a permit for demolition of what appeared to be the North Wing. I tried to find it but couldn't. Maybe one of our fellow DISers will be more successful than I was.

I posted the thread with that permit a few weeks ago. I haven't seen anything more about the Contemporary project on the comptroller's site since then. Here is the thread .

Demolition work does not always mean that the entire wing is coming down.

I'm convinced. They are definitely planning to build building something big. I don't know if it's that C-shaped building or if it's even going to be attached to the Contemporary but it's big.
The contractor's trailers can accomodate about 100 staff in offices and meeting rooms. They are going to use the entire runway as a big parking lot for the construction workers, which is very clever. They even have spaces for subcontractor trailers and water and sewage on the runway.
The entire thing seems to be quite a way from the N wing of the contempory especially when there some sort of building and large parking lot, perhaps a staging area or shops much closer, just N of the building. Probably somebody figured that the runway usage makes the distance worth the trouble. They got any leftover trams laying around?
It's also possible that they are planning to build the DVC resort somewhere nearby but not at the North wing. It's seems like terrible construction planning if they are fencing off the N wing for demolition at this time but they haven't even moved the general contractor and subcontractors in yet.
Where's the building permits? Where are the invitations to bid? Where are the lien notices? The entire construction paperwork process seems to be missing from the north wing concept.
I'll bet anyone a buck that if the DVC Contemporary gets built, it's NOT on the North wing site as speculated.

Although a Contemporary DVC tower will be nice from the inside, isn't anyone concerned that the monorail loop will be following the pattern of International Drive? Just another high rise randomly planted where it is convenient and profitable.

I think the original north wing was short for a reason: a high-rise there will look bad. Now I'm all for a monorail DVC, but not at the expense of the landscape.
