Oh, DOCTOR BASHING is soooooooo much fun, isn't it?
I work at a major medical center with a state-supported hospital. We are VERY family friendly. For all of you who are ticked off at being sent away for being 3 minutes, 7 minutes, or 15 minutes late? Come on over to Iowa! We'll see you!!
I personally have seen patients who were
3 HOURS late. Better yet, I have seen patients who
CAME ON THE WRONG DAY

.
Doctors are extremely tightly scheduled these days. Just ask anyone in CA, where (mis)managed care reigns supreme. Also, patients frequently check-in EARLY (wow, what a concept!). So, how would you feel if you checked in 15 minutes EARLY for your appointment, and then someone who came 5 minutes LATE for theirs went ahead of you????? How should the office staff/physician handle that?
And yes, mamajoan, sometimes doctors DO run over with certain patients. Sometimes there are actually EMERGENCIES (imagine that!) that doctors have to address, and will take more time to manage. I'm sure if any of YOU have a true emergency, YOU would want YOUR doctor to spend as much time as needed to take care of you, instead of saying, "Well, sorry you are bleeding all over the floor, but my 3:15 is here, and I've got to go . . ."
Speaking of which, my next patient is here . . .
