I bought SSR, but it really is going to be huge!

How about some of those golf carts like you can rent at the Wilderness Campground.

Daughter thought they were a blast.

An idea,

Anyone else? Goldi

There might be a problem with controling people on where they drive them at SSR, unlike the campground that is confined.

Years ago, when it was the Disney Villas, golf carts were an option to rent; can't see why SSR would be any different given the size of the complex.

When that area was the villas and Downtown DIsney was known as the MarketPlace, you could rent golf carts. We used to ride them and park them just at the perimiter of now DTD. It was great, especially at the end of the night when you were too tired to walk home. I too would vote for golf carts at SSR, but I think that would have needed to have been built into the plan in the beginning so that they could have built wider paths that would accommodate both people and the golf carts.

I am wondering if when SSR opens more buildings if they might not run an internal resort bus that doesn't go anywhere off the resort, just around SSR. I think that would be a great idea, too.

We were there last week. It is definitely a large resort. I was surprised looking at the map to see that there is only one other quiet pool planned according to the map. In looking at the map it seems that some people are going to have a hike to get to a pool. I don't know if they still have it but when I was a kid Fort Wilderness had an internal tram system.

To put a positive spin on it I'm a runner and, unlike most Disney Resorts, there is a lot of room to run between the resort, Downtown Disney and Buena Vista Drive.

We really enjoyed our stay at SSR.

We were told by the SSR sales lady that SSR would end up having five pools. So maybe the map doesn't reflect all their plans.

As for the original post, I had always assumed that SSR would have its own internal shuttle system. I don't know why I assumed that, but as big as it is, I just thought it would need one.

I don't know how the buses work at OKW, but I thought SSR would be about the same.

Yes those golf carts are sorely missed by those of us who used them at the Institute for trips to Reflections for coffee, smoothies and pastries. To the Marketplace and West End. To the quiet pools. Well you get the picture. They were really convenient for getting around and would probably have been a welcome addition to SSR.:(

Does this mean we have heard the last of the complaints about the looooooong hallways at BWV? :p ;) :teeth:

Best wishes -

I work as an insurance underwriter and have worked on golf course accounts. Golf carts can be hazardeous, especially in high traffic areas. I've seen so many claims where someone was run over by a cart, hit by a cart backing up, someone doesn't set the brake properly and it rolls into someone/something. Parked cars hit by carts. Fort Wilderness is more of an open area, I can't see them at SSR. OKW is a huge resort and manages without them.

Our neighbor bought a golf cart several years ago for his (then) 9 yr old son to use. What a nightmare. Several visits from the Police have (mostly) ended that - thank goodness. There would HAVE to be restrictions about use in a more congested area like SSR will be (as opposed to FW).

We visited SSR last week in June, and they will absolutely have an internal bus system. That was my major problem, having to walk really far to go to pool, but our Cm that was showing us around said they will have a bus to help out.

Every time I read these "SSR is so huge" comments I get really confused. We stayed there in May, and the walk from our building to the pool area was maybe 5 minutes, tops. This is about the same as walking from the farthest longhouse at the Polynesian to the GCH, or from the farthest building at the GF, or from a CR Garden Wing (or the BWV hallways ::hee:: ). You can park your car right at your building, and the walk to the Congress Park bus stop was less than a minute; I'm just not sure what folks expect - a golf cart to drive you from the bus stop to your building? ;)

I think that having a few dozen golf carts zipping around would really ruin the ambience of the place - I've seen how they are at FW. And for those of you following the "kids at the quiet pool" discussion: imagine those golf carts being driven by 11-year-olds. (And if you believe that there will be enforced age limits, I've got some DVC swampland points to sell you ::grin:: )
