I want more points, but I don't know why

We haven't even taken our first trip "home". For 2 adults with college kids , we bought enough points this year at the DVC we wanted most. Still, I find myself figuring "OK, if I get more points, where and how many?" It's kind of an illness. Our friends can't figure why we're Disney folks...but we are...cool on the outside, disney geeks on the inside. I pacify myself knowing that points will always be available....and if I find myself with more time and more money than I have now, I can buy more!

I think the same thing all the time and I've only had mine for two years.

What brings me back down to earth is the Annual Dues at $4 per point that continue to go up each and every year! A hundred more points would sure be nice but do I want to cough up another $500 every January?

It's called "addonitis". There's no cure! :goodvibes

Ditto for us.. bought into DVC in March...first trip planned for next Jan..kids are in or out of college...so why am I buying into DVC ???

DVC does tend to grow on you and I am always thinking "is 150 points enough ??"

For the time being I am sitting pat on the # of points, but remember that you can always rent or transfer points from other members if you feel that you need to visit WDW more often than your points will allow.

We bought in in 1992 with 230 points. Almost every time Disney said that they were raising the cost of points, I added on. I now have 550 points and no cure is in sight.

That is a lot of points(ok make me jealous) I am curious how many family members figure into your purchases and general travel..like one big gathering a year or several small trips?
Are you bored with doing the older rides now? What else do you do while there?

Just getting a small look into our future.

We have stayed in London at the Royal Garden Hotel.

We have stayed at the Plaza in New York and the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island, Michigan and the American Club in Wisconsin.

We stayed in two concierge rooms in the Grand Californian hotel at Disneyland with my daughter and Family from Seattle.

Our other daughter honeymooned on a cruise with points.

We will be staying with friends at OKW in a GV for 8 days in January of next year.

My sister and her husband stayed at BWV. My nephew proposed to his fiancee on our points at OKW. Our best friends went with us to VWL in a 2br. My elderly in-laws have enjoyed several stays at OKW.

We even stayed at Vero Beach for a few days to attend a funeral of an uncle who lived in Boca.

It has been wonderful. Its no longer just about the rides. It is an important part of our lives.

They're not kidding about the "addonitis" I haven't made my first trip home either - but have made two addons already (340 points total). I also have two college kids & wanted to buy when they were small. I guess I'm just making up for lost time. We usually visit Florida twice a year and I figure my kids can travel safely to Disney on spring break. They are old enough but I won't flip the bill for Fort Lauderdale or the like.

No, but Zoloft helps. Talk to your doctor.

The wife and I can relate. Its not even been 3 months and we just did the 130 point add-on. We were going to wait, but we got the $90/point rate plus the two AP's. With no closing cost (coming this summer) and the value of the AP's we figured that the actual cost was $85 a point. (Two AP's worth $300 each, minus of the $90/point = $85).

We are already planning to do an add-on around January. We eventually plan on having 600 to 900 points. It may take a few years, but I'm working on it! :wizard:

Yup, I will confirm what was said above... we've been members for more than six years now & we always have that feeling we should add on :lmao: We've restrained ourselves several times and we are holding at 300 points... it's all we need, but dear god, I think about adding more ALL THE TIME....

IMHO we've never tired of the parks or the surroundings... the resorts are wonderful... our vacations have become less about the parks and more about family time AND pools AND parks :rotfl:

You beat us. We got 150 points this spring at BWV and then added 150 points at WLV. Now I'm waiting to hear about another 30 points at WLV so we'll have 330 total and we've only stayed one night at our WLV home so far, just to see it, on our last trip in April. :)

Do what I do ... ignore the dues ... just pretend they aren't there ... ;)

I'm trying to figure out how many points are enough ... sure, if I stay in a studio all the time, I can get more bang for my buck -- but the 1BR sure is nice and cozy! :(

I think someone mentioned the average is 300-600 points ... I was thinking that with 500 I would be in great shape (we go 2-3 times a year ... in fact, we'll already have been there 4 times from Nov 2005 to July 2006). I just dont want to buy them all at once just in case the 'fad' wears off. Considering the "Disney Freak" in us, I don't see that happening ... but ... ;)

I guess I'll wait for them to offer the AP deal again. ;)

I am always checking out the resales.

I had 160 points at SSR but I really want to buy about 200 points at BWV. I love being so close to Epcot.

As sooner as my DS is out of day care and in Free School. I am buying. I hope I can hold on till Sept 2008. I should have our original purchase paid off by then.

We have been to WDW 4 times - May 2005 to May 2006 and stay on points 3 times. It is about the whole Disney atmosphere more than the parks.

I've actually seen people on these boards who have over 3000 points. They use DVC like a vacation home. Some people even stay at a DVC resort Sunday - Friday and have an apartment in Orlando where they spend the weekends year-round. Bascially live out of their DVC.

Now that's living right!!!! :thumbsup2

Now I know what I will do if I ever win the lottery! "hello, member services? what is the maximum number of points I can buy?"

I love reading these posts from True Disney lovers, it reassures me that we are not abnormal in our love for all things Disney!

:dance3: We bought in 2002 and have added on twice since then. The first time it was because we love VWL and wanted points there. The second time was when we saw the GV at SSR, since our other two home resorts don't offer a GV. Every trip we make, I get a very strong urge to add on. Here on the boards we call it "addonitis", the AMA has named it RPS or restless points syndrome. We've gone from going once every two to three years, to going two to three times a year. We were just there in April and we started thinking about our next trip when we got on the plane home. I think we'll add on again if they announce they're building at CR. :listen:

I am always battling the urge to add on. My DH said he would divorce me if I added on again!!

Although, I just went to Vero in May and now want points there for a beach cottage. (DH wasn't with me on that trip) So I have added 3 nights at Vero for our October trip so hopefully he will love it too. My fingers are crossed....
