I want a tattoo

My thoughts always are, "Why does this woman have such low self esteem? Was she abused? What would drive her to self mutilation?" :wave2:

Hmmmm low self esteem, let's see here....I'm young, pretty, nice body, own a business, gorgeous husband, beautiful daughter, loving family, lots o' money, tons of friends, always on a vacation, highly respected. I could go on, but I think you get the point :woohoo:

Not too many people tattoo themselves. Thus self mutilation is not an accurate description. Perhaps if you engaged any number of women in conversation, you might be able to find out the answsers to your questions. And if you met me in person, you would not know I had any tattoos, they are not exposed unless I want them to be. And hopw many women do you know with tattoos?

My self esteem is fine. Actually, people tell me I am one of the most self assured and confident people they have met.

Of course, you are no doubt a trained therapist, you know more about it that I.

That doesn't sound like a recipe for high self esteem to me.:wave2:

Please, tell us then what high self esteem is. Since all of us tattooed tarts seem to be trashy women whi are in dire need of mental heap.

It kind of takes the steam out of his quote. He might have felt better if he worked on preserving that body that he didn't think he would need when he got older. ;)

Well, I know this poster personally. The last thing she has is low self esteem. She is a wonderful, confident woman who I am proud to call a friend.

But who am I to talk, I have one of those nasty tattoos also, I guess I should run to the phone and make a therapy appointment just as quickly as I can.

 I love you man!! Will you go to therapy with me? I'm afraid to find out the REAL truth about me :lmao:

Body piercing and scarification are, by definition, self mutilation. Body piercing will heal with time. Tattoos are like old soldiers, they fade, but they never go away.

It's interesting that you hide your tattoos under normal circumstances. Shame? Fear of recrimination? Low self esteem?

Well, that's a tall order, but I'll try. It basically comes down to your perception of your own self worth within your own world. Everyone has different perceptions. Some people have a very small world and center their esteem within their own family. Others have a different perspective and look to a larger audience.

In any case, lack of self esteem can take a lot of different roads. Sometimes genius is born and other times people resort to self mutilation. Tattoos are, more often than not, a result of low self esteem. The military is a good example. "I'm going to war and I'm going to die anyway, so what the hell, I'll get a tattoo". :wave2:

Wow, funny how opinions differ!

I always thought you had to be pretty secure in your body image to get a tattoo. Wouldn't someone with low self esteem not want the attention it drew?

Do those of you who consider tattoos to be mutilation think the same about dying your hair?

But not his tattoos :wave2: Did he even have Tattoos? Did Elvis?

Do you mean to tell me that 75% (or whatever it is) of the USMC is depressed because they have ink?

Can someone please provide me the stats that show people with tattoos are more likely to be *depressed* of have other *issues* then people without tattoos? Please? OH wait, you can't? Then please be quiet and quit spewing opnion as fact. Thank you.

Or is it just women who have tattoos that are trashy and depressed and men are sexy.

That's a good point! Often times people who revel in their body image have low self esteem. They compensate with what they have and wish to draw the attention a tattoo gives them.

It's sad to hear a woman say, "My tattoo makes me more sexy."

Basically, all of the U.S. military leadership strongly discourages members of the military from tattooing, branding, or body piercing because of a number of factors which include health risks associated with these acts and the image they present worldwide and to the American population.

It's really sad to hear people spout opnions about things they don't understand.

Am I the only one who thinks Zmsksirt is a troll? Nothing but baiting, insults and trying to cause a fight coming from this one.

Hey Zmsksirt. Are you a psychologist? Do you have statistics to back up your words? If you don't, quit spouting off like what you are saying is fact. Becuase it's just your opnion if you don't. And while you're entitled to it, you're coming off as a bored child trying to pick a fight.

Nice way to skirt around my question. Is the military depressed and have self esteem issues because they have ink? Yes or no.

It would seem to be just the opposite IMHO.

"Popeye" ink is nothing of which to be proud. It's not a sane thing to do in this time (nor was it ever). The U.S. military has improved dramatically in recent years. :wave2:

Zmsksirt - when you can answer my questions then we'll talk again. Until then it just looks like you can't back up your statements. :rolleyes1

To refresh, I'm asking:
1) Does your self esteem criteria apply to men as well as women?
2) Are members of the military depressed because they are inked?
3) Do you have stats and facts to back up your claims?

Back to the OP - How is it healing? And don't forget to put sunblock on it whenever it is exposed. Sun will fade it.

So when you are 90 years old and sitting in rocking chair with really old, wrinkly skin....what is your fabulous tatoo going to look like?

My skin is going to look fair and radiant....no old blurry black blobs.

Fair and radiant at 90yo? :lmao:

Sorry, but we'll all have old, wrinkly skin no matter what.

I admit I'm a big nerd- topics like this lead me to google to see what I can find! (Hey, why don't we have a nerdy smiley?)

"The English Royal Court must have been fascinated with the Tahitian chief's tattoos because King George V himself got inked with the 'Cross of Jerusalem' when he travelled to the Middle East in 1862. The tattooing craze spread to the upper classes all over Europe, but particularly in England. There, it was not uncommon for members of the social elite to gather in the drawing rooms and libraries of the great country estate homes after dinner and partially disrobe in order to show off their tattoos. Aside from Prince Albert's Prince Albert, there are persistent rumours that Queen Victoria had a small tattoo in an undisclosed 'intimate' location. Winston Churchill's mother, Lady Randolph, had a tattoo of a snake around her wrist. Carrying on the family tradition, Winston was tattooed himself."

I always knew that Queen Victoria was a tramp! ;)
