Going to ask DH to put me up a nice clothes line. Wow I have been doing all this wash and laying things over my deck rails to dry. Things smell so nice after being washed and air dried, reminds of when I was a little girl and my Mom would hang out the clothes, I think most of us have gotten spoiled with dryer's. So tonight I am going to ask my DH for a clothes line. :sunny:

How many of you hang your clothes?

Weather permitting, I hang my clothes out probably from about Mid March through October. I have been known to tromp through the snow on a nice day to hang on the line. But I can't right now. DH and I are building a deck on the back (literally as we speak he is probably wondering where I have disappeared to!) and the clothes line would interfere, so it was taken down. I will be putting it back up when the deck is completed. Our electric rates are VERY HIGH here in NH and I am motivated by the $$ savings, as much as the nice smell!......................P Gotta run, my turn to help dig holes for the deck!.................P

I hang my clothes out. DH and DS's go in the dryer.

I haven't had a clothes dryer for over a year, so I'm hanging my laundry always. I like hanging outside vs. in the basement because now that it's warmer the clothes dry more quickly. I miss having the convenience of the dryer and the softness it provides. Occasionally I'll go to the coin-op laundry and wash and dry, but it gets expensive.

Only use the gas dryer here! I hate my clothes hanging outside, bugs get on them, birds poop on them...I would rather dry them in the house.

I hang my clothes up. As soon as I am able the clothes go outside. During the winter they are hung up in the basement. This year though I need to replace my clothesline. It is a stand model and I have had it for 28 yrs. It is not bending over a little and the strands are fraying. I can't stand drying things in the dryer. It bothers me and all I can think of is the waste of money.

It is against our restrictive covenants for our neighborhood. I wouldn't be able to have one anyway because my son and husband both have asthma. Our cars are yellow with pollen right now.

LOL!

I read the subject line and immediately thought you wanted to create your own line of clothing.

I had one, but I got rid of it because it kills me to come up from the basement where the washer is, up the stairs with a load of heavy wet clothes, it's easier for me just to throw them in the dryer. My dryer is electric and very energy efficient, the difference betweem using it one month and not using it was $5 . I'm not going through that hassle for $5 . Some things though if I want them to dry outside, I can hang them off the deck rails.

Our small city had an ordinance against drying clothes outside.

I think that is outrageous. I do sometimes hang things on hangers on my patio. I live on a corner lot and can't "hide" things in my yard so I can't cheat.

I miss my clothesline too.

But I have to tell you, I would not want to live without a dryer.

My mother God rest her soul, raised 6 of us with a wringer washing machine, and no dryer. All this before disposable diapers !

I remember in the winter bringing in the clothes. Freezing your fingers off. And of course the clothes were frozen solid also. Had to bring them in and stand them up ( they were so frozen we could literally stand them on end ) until they thawed enough to be draped over an indoor rack to finish drying.

So, while I miss my clothes line, and the smell of fresh clothes, I would never ever go back to having no dryer.

Really? OMG That is really "keeping the neighborhood up to a certain standard" gone off the deep end.

Can't you just imagine the council meeting where they passed that rule?

" Chairperson, I submit that the entire neighborhood is devalued by the sight of Mrs. Xs bloomers blowing in the wind ".

I hang my clothes on hangers from all the blinds in the house because I have no racks. We aren't allowed to have a line in our neighborhood.

Sometimes I feel like that commercial where the daughter is telling the mom they have no more room to hang stuff and the house is filled with hanging clothes everywhere.

Not allowed to have a clothesline here either... Neighborhood mafia. When I visit my folks in FL I always hang dry our clothes. Just one more reason to get out of here....

DH would not make me one, so I went and got 3 treated 4x4x8's, and made 2-T's, stuck them into the ground, and voila!! They have been up for 10 years, and doing great!! I have started hanging my clothes out....they just smell so nice!!! :sunny:
