My stupid landlady won't let us have a kitty :(
She said there has been problems with cats before - wrecking the house!?!
UGH it makes me so angry - all my DD wanted for xmas was a 'real' kitty and I couldn't even get it for her. I can't talk the landlady into it either.
When we moved in, I knew she said 'no pets', but thought after living here for 6 mos and proving to be good tenants she would give in to my daughter. Nope!
I told her I used to work as a Vet Tech and know how to make sure the cat doesn't ruin the home (I have actually never seen a cat ruin a home - furniture maybe - but not a home) and that I would be picky with which cat we chose - but she won't go for it :(
We don't live in an apartment building, but a nice townhome complex! Everyone around us has cats and dogs - i feel sad ;(

Just needed to vent!

boo on the landlady. maybe a deposit of some sort would change her mind? probably not though.

I'm sorry that you can't have a kitty in your home, but I don't think its the landlady's fault. It sounds like she was upfront about the restrictions when you signed the lease and you agreed to them. I know it may not seem like it to a responsibile person like yourself who would take good care of her cat, but there are good reasons that no pets restrictions are so common.

My parents rent out a house and they have the same no pets restrictions on it. Cats can cause a great deal of damage to a home. They can tear up carpeting and drapes, spray urine, even tear up sheetrock and sharpen their claws on the woodwork. Cats did all of these things to my parents rent house before they put their own no pets policy in place. The damages done far exceeding the pet deposits and they decided the policy was the only way to protect their investment

While I am sure that you would properly care for your pet and thus probably avoid this kind of damage, its easier for a landlord to simply have a no pets policy. This guarantees no damage from pets and does not put them in the situation of trying to figure out who will and who wont be a good pet owner.

I am not trying to be harsh here. I really am sorry that you cant have a pet right now, its just that I can see your landlady's side of this as well. Perhaps the best solution would be to wait until the lease is up and find a property that will accept pets.

I'm sorry, KC. I understand your desire to get a kitty, but at the same time, I understand the landlady's desire not to allow one. :(

Maybe sometime down the road you'll find some way of getting a kitty for your daughter, even if it's in a few years.
