I tried to find this - Is there an AP discount for late June?

Thunderbird1--

I've got a question for you. You do a lot of the same math I do and come to the same conclusions. I went ahead and ran the numbers on another thread for days 8 & 9. I just can't figure out how day 9 is working out so close to day ten. I've checked and checked what I'm doing and always come to the same conclusion. Either I'm doing something wrong altogether, or I just can't figure out what it is that makes it come out that way. It's driving me nuts. Can you take a look and tell me what you think? If not, I'm just going to have to go bug Cheshire Figment. :rotfl2:

If this is correct, then it looks like 9 days is your most cost effective move--lowest cash outlay with the biggest savings.

I'm so impateint. I figured it out (with help :rotfl: )

The cost to upgrade from 7 to 8, 8 to 9 and 9 to 10 days, is not symetrical, it's skewed.

upgrade from 7 to 8 days: $24.49
upgrade from 8 to 9 days: $13.85
upgrade from 9 to 10 days: $34.14

CONCLUSION: If upgrading to an AP, your best value/most cost effective choice is to purchase the 9 day ticket with no expiration. You'll save one cent less than the 10 day ticket, but you'll be spending $34.14 less per ticket too.

Well you're better at math than me...but now I'm really confused...

I'm getting a price of $2009.52 for Spring break at Pop, 7 nights, 10 day base with no ex.

Cost to upgrade 10 day to AP is an additional $34.08 each ($136.32 for four) for a total of $2145.84

The same package with a 9 day base no-ex ticket costs $1868.96.
To upgrade to APs I would pay $69.23 per ticket ($276.92 for four) for a total of $2145.88

I can see that you have lower upfront costs by buying the 9 day ticket vs the 10 day, but I'm putting it on my Disney Visa to finance it at 0% for 6 months, so I'd rather pay more upfront if it's costing me the same at the end. Am I missing something? If I need to make changes I want to do it now before I hit my 45 day mark.
Thanks again!

Buying a 10-day base ticket with no expiration at the higher cost will not hurt you--you won't lose anything. You will get that amount credited to your AP. You just don't gain any extra savings with it. Well, one penny, but that isn't anything. If you buy the 9-day, you pay the extra money at upgrade. If you buy the 10-day, you pay the extra money in advance.

See for me, that savings is essential. I like to keep my money working for me as long as possible. But you're right, by putting it on the Disney Visa, you get 6 more months. For me though, it's over a year (maybe 2-3), before cashing in.

My youngest turned three right after we got home so he'll be getting his first ticket in June. My AP expired in December right after we got home, so I need a new AP. But DH and our other two boys are on a different AP schedule. They're good to go. So, at the earliest I'd upgrade their tickets is February 2010, but maybe later (I'm sitting on 4 one-day tickets and 3 10 day PH too! Don't ask.), and I haven't decided if we'll even go to WDW in 2010 (maybe a Disney cruise, Disneyland, or just a year off). If we do go, we might not go until fall or winter 2010.

Anyhow... I really don't *need* tickets. Our June trip will give us another 5 day one-day tickets too (at least). But this is such a good deal I might make an investment to save ~$500 (I haven't done the child math at all).
Especially because I need an AP for the June and Sept/Oct trip. I still have so much to figure out in the way of tickets. I may just try and get us all on the same AP schedule. But if we do go in the first half of 2010, it would be silly not to get DS3 an AP.

Boy, this thread really has evolved, or gone :offtopic: Boy, he's grumpy. OT, isn't always such a bad thing.

It does get complicated, but worth the time it takes to figure it out. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something. I really do appreciate all the info sharing. I would have never come up with this on my own!:thumbsup2

Hey, I only opened this thread to read in passing... now I have 2 trips booked. Yes, the DISease continues...no cure.:rotfl2:

Wha. . . ? Go out of town for a couple of days and look what happens! (Runs to grab calculator. Then pauses to read a little further.)

Whew! I was not looking forward to more hours with my calculator!

Okay--I won't ask, but can I tell? Just my dh, because he thinks I'm loony for stockpiling tickets, lol.

OT just saved us a ton of money, so no complaints here! Speaking of which, I can't remember whether we covered this here or on another thread, but Cheshire Figment confirmed for me that you can use those unused, 1 day theme park passes towards the purchase of water park/Disney Quest AP's. Since the total price of the separate passes is currently lower than the combined PAP, and I can use the one day tickets I got for our free DDP package last fall toward the WP/DQ AP's, I'm really keeping the cost of the tickets down! Gotta love Disney math.

Though, as you pointed out, laurabelle, Disney math does tend to further the progression of our DISease, lol!

Can I through a DVC AP discount into this equation?
I am booking 4/3 through Disney, not SW because I did get better airfare separate from their package. Now if my AP price is 369. for regular and 474.00 for prem, do I purchase a 7 day base...or 7 day NE....or 7 day+H2O? It doesn't look like I need a 9 or 10 day?:scratchin

Like PH, WP&M option is a flat fee from one-day to 10-day tickets. The 4/3 deal gives you no discount on that option. So, while it won't hurt to add it (as long as you don't go over the upgrade amount), it won't help.

If your price is $369, then your best option (to get the maximum discount) is to get a seven-day base ticket with no expiration. You will save $73.48 and pay about $9 OOP when you upgrade. I'm assuming the $369 price you gave includes tax.

SO
if I spent extra and purchased the 10 day pass with this 4/3 deal, the increase for our ressie is a $220 difference, add $9 OOP @ park for upgrade We can have a prem AP?
payout~$80 pp? Are we only saving ~$25pp?

I don’t understand what you are asking. Which 10 day pass are you talking about? A base ticket or one with options? If options, which options? What is “prem”? Do you mean a PAP? I don’t know what you mean by saving only ~25 per person and paying out ~80 per person. I’m just confused.

What ticket in the end do you want? Are you a DVC owner? Are you renewing or buying new? Is your goal to spend the least now or save the most money?

I'm sorry, I can feel your frustration with my blonde brain activity! With being a DVC member for so long I have never processed this many decisions for a reservation. I'm used to calculating points, not passes. Do you have the child MYW ticket prices both regular and for 4/3?

I still don't know what you are asking or if I'm giving you the right information (options), but I do have MYW ticket chart for no expiration. I hope it helps. When I preview the post, I can't get it to come out in the nice little columns it shows for me in writing, so I changed the color in the middle column with its appropriate heading. I Hope you can understand it.

Gate Prices Including Tax: Base ticket, no expiration

Ticket: Guest 10+ Guest 3-9

2 Day MYW Base $176.79 $151.23
3 Day MYW Base $250.28 $215.13
4 Day MYW Base $286.49 $249.21
5 Day MYW Base $310.98 $273.71
6 Day MYW Base $324.83 $287.55
7 Day MYW Base $359.97 $322.70
8 Day MYW Base $400.44 $363.17
9 Day MYW Base $430.26 $392.99
10 Day MYW Base $465.41 $428.13

4/3 Prices Including Tax: Base ticket, no expiration

Ticket: Guest 10+ Guest 3-9

2 Day MYW Base $176.79 $151.23
3 Day MYW Base $250.28 $215.13
4 Day MYW Base $286.49 $249.21
5 Day MYW Base $286.49 $249.21
6 Day MYW Base $286.49 $249.21
7 Day MYW Base $286.49 $249.21
8 Day MYW Base $310.98 $273.71
9 Day MYW Base $324.83 $287.55
10 Day MYW Base $359.97 $322.70

The reason I am getting confused...
I figured as part of my package to just upgrade on my credit card (Disney Visa 0%) the cost of the 10 day NE instead of the 7 NE.
The wrench in the whole plan is I can't upgrade the 10 day NE child (value $428 after trade in) because it is more than the DVC child PAP @$418.
So I am back to the 7day NE MYW ticket and will have to upgrade (for DVC PAP) 114.03 for me, and 95.3 each for my two kids=$209.33
I was confused also because the difference in my ressie between the 7 day MYWNE and the 10day MYWNE purchase was $220.46.:rolleyes2

I think I follow most of this thread but was wondering how to figure out this scenario.

I have a PIN code for a 5 night stay with $500 gift card for $594 at Value Resort. It would be just one person going, me. I am a DVC owner (short on points) and have a an AP which expires in early December 2009. While I will be returning in December, it may be after my pass expires. I plan to renew the AP using my DVC member discount. If I book this package with park tickets or the 4/3 deal it seems like I would be able to use the ticket I buy with the package to renew my AP or does the upgrade only work with new APs? If I understand correctly, I would need to use the ticket once before upgrading it, if I had the no expiration option on the ticket would that work with my AP renewal? It may make sense to just upgrade to new AP using the ticket. This has got me thinking in ways I'm not used to doing but Disney does not seem to want their AP holders to visit and stay as much as attracting new business.

Thanks in advance for thoughts.:offtopic:

Your can use the ticket you purchase towards either a new AP or a renewal. In your case, you just can't go over the gate value of the DVC rate. You do need to use the ticket once before the upgrade to bring the ticket up to full gate value. Your will get the renewal rate as long as you are in your 30 day window before/after your anniversary date.

rt2dz,

IMPRESSIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We are going with 9 day no expire, then upgrading to AP's

Thanks for the info on a great savings for our AP's

CONCLUSION: If upgrading to an AP, your best value/most cost effective choice is to purchase the 9 day ticket with no expiration. You'll save one cent less than the 10 day ticket, but you'll be spending $34.14 less per ticket too.

Help rt2dz!! :teacher:

I admit that when it comes to figuring out tickets and savings, I am mathematically challenged :crazy2:

I currently have a 4/3 deal booked with a 7 day base ticket. I am considering upgrading to an AP. I will be paying my trip balance next month.

When I pay the balance, should I upgrade to a 9 day non expiration ticket or keep the 7 day base ticket and upgrade to the AP at the parks

Thanks!

Is there any other use for the 1 day ticket (when you're an AP holder) other than purchasing another AP? I don't think we'll be renewing our AP, however, it would be nice if we could use the 1 day ticket for a 1 day Water Parks or DisneyQuest visit (not a WP/DQ AP).

To get the biggest discount (~$105 v. ~$9.50), upgrade to a 9 or 10 day ticket with no expiration. Use the ticket and then upgrade at an AP.
