We have a I-touch, similar to a I-phone but no phone, you must provide a internet wifi hotspot to do any online stuff.

I just got a Verizon Mifi, a small credit card size portable wifi hotspot.

I’m wondering if this combination would allow me to take advantage of apps for line wait times or other Disney World related apps?

I don't know about those specific devices, but I would think anything you can do with that setup at home, you should be able to do at Disney, provided you have a Verizon data signal. With that in mind, I'd think the basic question would be what are the Verizon data signals like in the parks. I know the phone coverage is pretty good, from past experience. I don't know what the data coverage is, though.

I had no problem with my Verizon Blackberry and data.

As for an itouch working, I have read some apps don't work on a itouch because it doesn't have gps.

Thank you all.

I did confirm that the Verizon MiFi does not have GPS enabled.

So what apps can I use?

Its not the mi fi that needs GPS its the itouch, which of course it doesn't.

Some of the apps, like the ones that allow you to enter wait times, check your GPS coordinates to make sure you are in the park and not just screwing around at home. Since the itouch doesn't have GPS I don't even think you can download the app.

So if you get an app that works at home, it should work the same way at the park.

Last year year I was using my cell phone to tether my iPod Touch and all the apps worked fine. As the PP have stated nothing on the GPS side will work, but the wait time apps, maps, etc will all work fine from your touch.

i can't speak from personal experience, at least not within WDW, but just as a matter of record, GPS is only one method Apple devices use for location services. Most anyone with an iPod touch can probably attest to the fact that with a WiFi connection, Google Maps does a pretty decent job at locating them (technically Apple employs a service that monitors, reports and triangulates position based on known existing additional WiFi networks. Probably won't help at WDW, but the parks are covered by WiFi networks - mostly for CM use).

really??? because when I asked about wifi in the parks in another thread was told that there is no wifi ANYWHERE..
I have verizon so can't get the iphone but have the ipod touch as was going to download apps but have not because was told there is no wifi so the ipod touch would not work....

we are looking to moving to blackberries so that I can teether my computer as I am doing online classes right now and can't be offline for 10 days!!
was sad the programs that I wanted would not work on blackberry but might load them onto my enV touch and give that phone to one of my kids so we will have best of both world (I hope...fingers crossed!!)

well, that answer you were given is wrong, but for different reasons.

yes, the parks are covered in WiFi, but as I said, it's for CMs (and guests of CMs), there are a few open spots for guest use though, but it's very sporadic.
