DD will miss a week of first grade after Thanksgiving for our WDW vacation. I was a little nervous to tell her, even though other families told me they have taken their kids out of school with no problems. I just didn't want to give the impression that I don't think school is important.

She told us just to have fun and not worry about it. She will send the most important work (math and reading) home before break, but said that we didn't have to worry about the seat work. I was a little worried about that because she sent a TON of worksheets home for DD when she was out sick for two days earlier this month. Yay! One less thing to stress about! :cool1:

I hear you about being nervous! I had to tell my DD's kindergarten teacher that we were taking her out for a week after only 2 weeks of school. I felt really bad but in the long run, it's nothing. They are so young - and most likely aren't missing that much more school than the kids that aren't travelling with all the bugs going around this year! It's just another example of how everything you do as a parent makes you feel guilty (well, at least that's how it works for me). Have a great time on your trip!

We'll be there at the same time! My DD is only in 2day/week preschool so I haven't even mentioned it to her teacher. I'll probably wait until the week before, even though DD will likely explode with excitement and tell her before then!

Where are you staying? How old are your DC? Have you been many times before? This is my first trip with the kids!

We will be there also! I have told my son's teacher. He is in 4th grade and his teachers loves Disney World, so he told us to go and have fun, he would do the same if he could.
I have not told my daughters first grade teacher. She seems a little tough so Iam not looking forward to it.

I have 2 DDs, ages 6 and 4. We've been one time, in Feb. '08 (right after older DD turned 5 and a couple weeks before younger turned 3). It was the best trip ever, so there's a lot of pressure to "top" it this time. :rotfl:

We're staying at ASMu family suites, and we're going to MVMCP on Nov. 29. I'm really excited for that! My brother and his girlfriend are meeting up there for the second half of the trip. He lives in PA, and we're in IL, so we haven't seen them since last Thanksgiving. We're going to tell the kids about the trip, but not them them their uncle is going. DBro wants to surprise the girls by just showing up at the bus stop one morning. I'll have to have the video camera ready for that moment. The girls will go crazy!

I hope you have a great trip!!!

I just now sent emails to the teachers for the Nov. trip I booked last night. I've done this 3 times before and it's never been a problem. I used email because the kids don't know yet and it was the easiest way to handle that. I don't anticipate any trouble. They will only miss 2.5 days. DD11 brought home her midterm grades yesterday and they are all 91-100%. I think she'll keep up fine.

I looked up her teacher's bio on the school website and her favorite quote is something about he who doesn't travel is only reading one page of a book... We travel, but I guess we are reading this page a few times!

Isn't it a relief to tell the teachers.:rotfl:

Our school had open house the last two weeks (3 different schools) and when I went in I was so nervous because I wanted to talk to all the kids teachers about us going next year. I told each teacher and not one of them had a problem with it:banana: they all told me to give them a little notice (like a month) and they would make sure the kids could get their work. I only have one more teacher to talk to for my DD14 but it is for gym class and the teacher graduated high school with my DH so I don't think it will be a problem either.

Woohoo! I already have answers from both. I will be missing parent/teacher conferences and told them I didn't need one unless they wanted to schedule one. This email from DD's 5th grade teacher makes me happy! We are good to go! :goodvibes

Wow! How great! As I write this, the conference would consist of many compliments connected with Rachel's attitude in class, her achievements,
and her relationships with other students. If something should arise that a conference is necessary, I will notify you. I will also share this with
Mr. D.

Yes, I would appreciate a note closer to the time, and I will let Lynn know at the office.

Have a wonderful time. And - mum's the word
.

We are doing a trip Nov25- Dec 2 and both DD and I will be missing school. (I teach)Everyone already knows and is fine with it. We are also doing MVMCP on the 29th! We went this time last year nadit was sooo much fun. We do thanksgiving b/c with us being off Wed-Fri we can go on my 3 personal days and do a whole week.

We will be in Disney World December 4-9th. We chose to leave on a Friday so that our DS and myself (I am a teacher) won't miss so many days of school. I told My DS's first grade teacher while I was helping her set up for Grandparent's Day one afternoon. She said that she thought it would be great and that he'd learn more there than he would at school! She loves to travel as well so I think that helped my case!:goodvibes

We will be there the same time and my daughter is in 1st grade. I have not told her teacher yet, but I will be telling her soon. I am surprising my daughter. I teach at the same school so the principal already knows since I had to take the time off so I am not stressed. But I am beyond EXCITED! :cool1::cool1:

wow! Glad to read this!! I am stressing over telling dd and ds's teachers (K and 1st) that they will miss 6 days in November....DH keeps telling me to relax, but I am worried I will get attitude from at least one of them!

We've taken our kids out of school for trips the past 3 years and I've never had a problem. Although I've heard horror stories!! It seems that our school district, at least the elementary school, is ok with it! I've only ever gotten positive feedback from the teachers.

As the kids get older I get a little more nervous though! I worry about what their missing! I think this maybe the last year for taking them out of school and next year we may think about an April break trip!

I am glad to know I am not the only one stressing over this. I have yet to tell DD's Kindergarten teacher. She made it so clear at orientation about how she stresses good attendance so I think I will wait until parent teacher conferences later this month to break the news. We went 2 years ago at the same time but she only missed 2 days of preschool. Not a big deal!

We will also be there the week after Thanksgiving 11/28-12/5 at AKV. Love that my ticker is finally under 2 months :woohoo:

i have a good repoire with my daughter's first grade teacher, but i am still nervous. i just booked the trip, and will probably tell her the next time I'm copy mom.

one of my biggest concerns is that we took DD out for two days already to go see family. then she got sick last week with n1h1. and missed four days. thank goodness she got sick on a friday after school. those were excused, though. the good thing is... the teacher sent home the big folder of work when she returned on Friday and we had it finished by yesterday afternoon. so, at least, the teacher knows that it can be made up. she even gave her a test this past Friday just to see how she would do. it was a test on what they had learned while my daughter was out. she scored an 88. she's being retested this week because the teacher says that she'll definitely do better after learning about it over the weekend.

this all gives me great hope.

I don't see an issue with my DS's kindergarten teacher(DD had her last year, love her) DD's 1st grade teacher I don't have the warm fuzzies about...hope I am wrong, but the thought of telling her makes me feel like I am geting called to the principal's office
