I was in line at the grocery store today (Aldi to be exact). I had a fairly full cart. An older woman came up next to me & said "Is this the only line open?" I said, "Yeah, I think so". She looked around & continued to stand there.

I turned my head to look at something & next thing you know she is inching her way ahead of me. She turned around & said, "You can tell me no if you want, but I only have 2 items, so I'm going to get in line ahead of you!" :confused3 I was completely tongue tied because I've never had anyone do that to me. I thought it was incredibly rude.

The thing is, I always tell someone to go ahead of me if they only have a few items & I have a full cart & I would have done the same for this woman - even though I was on limited time & had a ton of other things to get done today.

Do other people actually do this? It still annoys me thinking about the rudeness of it.

That's so rude. I completely understand the desire to get your shopping done quickly, but her actions are pushy. It's good to be a little push, but this is just over the top. We will offer this opportunity to someone. They are not to give it to themselves.

I think this is a "game" some people play...I am not flaming anyone in the older generation BUT I have been there and had that done to me...and sometimes they won't even acknowledge you...like you are just going to say..."go right ahead"...it is after all what they WANT you to say and the BOTTOMLINE: It is RUDE! :furious:

I would have said; "You know, if you had only asked I would have let you in front of me but I think its really rude that you forced your way in line so if you will excuse me....". I had a woman ask to cut in line in front of me at Kohls. I would have happily let her except she was also cutting in front of the five people behind me. When I pointed it out to her, she was none too happy but the people behind me said "thank you".

Of course it wasn't rude! She's the only person in the world and her daily agenda is far more important than yours. Sadly, the world seems to be full of these people.

We have a small dollar store in our town (2 checkout registers and usually only 1 is open). There are hardly ever more than 2 people working there at once. Yesterday I'm standing in line (with 2 items) behind only 1 person who is already paying for their purchase and this woman comes up behind me. She starts huffing and puffing really loud and claiming she doesn't have time to stand in line. She yells out loud, "Is anybody else working? We need another register open!" I couldn't believe it. :confused3

It only took me a minute or so to check out and by the time I was leaving, she was really letting the poor cashier have it. I just don't understand some people.

Very rude! It's one thing if she had of said, "do you mind if I go ahead of you since I only have 2 items and there are no other lines open?". The direct approach wouldn't have bothered me and I would have let her, but she was rude!
When I was at the grocery store recently I didn't have too many items and I got the feeling from the person in back of me that they wanted to go in front of me. They didn't come out and say it, but the way they were looking at my cart and looking at their cart made it pretty obvious, but the thing is they had almost as many things as me! :rotfl:

It was rude and if it were me I woudl have let her know it, or I would have told her if she needs to get in front of me so bad then she'll be paying for my groceries too, cause they are going up on the belt regardless of where she is.

That's when I ram the cart into her heels...woops...SO Sorry!!!!
:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

You are right it was very rude! I probably would have told her that she can wait in line just like the rest of us. I should add, that like you, if she would have gotten in line behind me I would have offered to let her go first. Some people just think the world revolves around them!

Ask and ye shall recieve! Assume and ye shall be denied!

That was pretty rude. I would have had to tell her no, get back in line behind me. That was wrong of her to assume you would just let her go ahead of you. I would never have the nerve to just break in line like that.

Was that YOU in front of me!?! Well now, how else was I going to get out of that store in a hurry? I only had two items.

KIDDING! TOTALLY KIDDING! :lmao: I would have been completely tongue- tied, too. And of course, I would have moved aside and let her through and then I'd be mad at myself later on for not speaking up.

I'm one of the most non-confrontational people you'll ever meet but I had something similar happen at the supermarket. I was standing in front of the deli counter, waiting my turn, when a woman came up and stood about 2 feet from me. When the clerk asked "who was next?", she shouted "I was" and then she turned and gave me this challenging look. I just looked back at her, smiled and said "age before beauty" and let her go ahead of me. If she hadn't given me the nasty look, I never would've said anything and it wouldn't have bothered me but that look just set me off. I can't stand when people are so rude.

I had just the opposite happen to me last night at the Giant.

2 of the 4 selfserves were off I went to the last one as it seemed the fastest.

They opened a new register 4 more down that she called an elderly lady as she was next in line ( semi-full cart). I only had 2 things so the cashier told me to come on through as the lady was having a bit of trouble getting her stuff out.

I replied I can wait but thanks anyhow . Nice lady told me she takes a bit and could jump ahead if I wanted. Well I did and asked her if I could help so as I was being rung up I helped with her stuff.I also left her my few dollars change as a thank you and told her time is money and it was enjoyable spending a little with he.

Then she thanked me and said "Honey if I was 50 years younger ". I laughed and said "You would be jailbait as I'm much older then I look" Her and the cashier just busted out laughing.

But yes I don't mind letting someone in front if they nicely ask. It's the same when driving you put on your blinker I will let you over all day long ,You just start to come over and we will be filling out paperwork.

I love it!! I will HAVE to remember that one!! :lmao:

One more rude grocery story to add to the mix:

My wife was shopping at Sam's Club and was next in the checkout line. Before she had a chance to start unloading her cart, a lady (and I use the term loosely) from the next lane over took an item that she decided not to buy and put it on the conveyor belt for my wife's checkout line. Sue didn't know what to say. When the cashier turned around, Sue told him that she didn't want the item that, by this time, had made it to the scanner. He said something like "Oh, you don't want this anymore?" My wife didn't know what to say.

And it didn't stop there. This person made it to the exit just ahead of Sue and, because it was raining, decided to stop right there in the exit foyer, effectively blocking it. My wife waited patiently for the shopper to move her cart out of the way when someone came up behind her and started telling Sue to move it. Sue politely told the man that she could not move, so he proceeded to try to get around her.

So Sue managed to upset two total strangers, not by her actions, but by the indirect actions of a rude third party. From now on, I guess I'll be the one doing the shopping at Sam's.
