I thought Nicole Kidman had a son?

Not even remotely related to the topic at hand.

Absolutely on topic. All of them are ridiculous conspiracy theories. The idea that they could hide the secret of her paternity is whacko!!!

Wow some of you are really into celebrity gossip!

Nope but I do know how to use Google & Wikipedia:P:P My interest on this subject is just the Scientology cult aspect.

Yes me too. I've read Leah Remini's book, Ron Miscavage's and Jenna Miscavage's. Fascinating stuff

First the conspiracy theories, not everything is a conspiracyo_Oo_Oo_Oo_O

Quote from a news article:

"Tom is arguably the world's most famous Scientologist, and when Nicole and Tom divorced in 2001, Connor and Isabella, who were raised in the church, decided to live with their dad and remain devoted to their religion. Because Nicole is not a Scientologist, she is deemed an "SP," or "suppressive person," by the church, which means Scientologists should cut off all contact with them." Popsugar.

And this is just what Scientology does, break apart families. Do some research

Ok wait, so did Katie join the church?

I have a hard time believing that if Tom is so into Scientology that his wife Nicole wouldn't be made to join the church too? Did Katie?

The conspiracy theories sound pretty logical, but this kid looks exactly like Tom Cruise to me.

Oh my, the resemblance to Tom is amazing! Same eyes , nose and smile. I think he is the father.

Since we're on this topic has anyone watched the E! tv series "The Arrangement"?

While not confirmed it is supposedly based/inspired on scientology and katie and tom cruise. I for the most part enjoyed it but I def got the vibe of at least "here's what can happen an entity weaves its ways into someone's mind how much control they can have over that person".

It gets even weirder when you read some of the accounts around his relationship with Nazanin Boniandi who is rumored by Scientology defectors to have been hand picked via audition by David Miscavige.

Wow some of you are really into celebrity gossip!

I'm not into all celebrity gossip. But, this family turned out to be fascinating, particularly because of the Scientology aspect and how one man, Cruise, can get so twisted up that he is affecting the lives of his spouses & family because of Scientology and allegedly being gay, which the Church will not allow, that he has to have 3 fake marriages to cover up that fact.

It was like watching the most fascinating movie unfolding. popcorn:: popcorn:: popcorn::

In Tom's marriages to Mimi Rogers and Nicole, except for red carpet appearances, they were notoriously private about their marriages. Cruise even has a reputation for successfully suing tabloids when he doesn't like their articles. There were very few private paparazzi moments shot of them.

My gay friends & coworkers used to say all the time that Tom is gay. I used to respond, "You wish!" :p

Then Tom, notoriously private about his relationships, suddenly jumps up on Oprah's couch :Pinkbounc proclaiming to the world how much he's in love with Katie Holmes, whom he's only been in a relationship with for about a month.   :faint: Suddenly every detail about their lives and their romance is on display to the public. Not by reporters, but by them. Tom Cruise invited us in to watch their relationship.

My gaydar wasn't just pinging, it sounded off like 3 firetruck sirens blaring at a 5-alarm fire. Suddenly, so was everyone else's. WHY would a man in the U.S. in 2005, (not some country where they stone gay people,) still have to hide the fact that he's gay, that he has to invent a third marriage?

Tom even said they are having a very old-fashioned courtship, no sex until after they are married. (Gaydar! Or Asexual? :scratchin )

But, like a few weeks after announcing that, Oops! Katie's pregnant! Back in those days, I don't think they even had pregnancy tests which can determine pregnancy that quickly. :confused3 And if she was pregnant, couples usually wait past the first trimester to announce it. (So that became a conspiracy theory. :magnify: )

Then Katie would be seen out by herself at various times, like grabbing a latte, and her baby bump would be smaller. No, it wasn't photoshop, because the shots takes were by different paparazzi from different angles. :scratchin The way we'd know they were recent photos is because of the length of Katie's hair. It's be an inch longer than it should be for a bump that size, or it was the same length of a shot taken a week earlier, yet her bump would be smaller than a week earlier. :magnify: popcorn::

Then Katie finally has Suri. Yet this couple who has trotted out every other aspect of their relationship, doesn't show Suri for 6 MONTHS out in public. About the time that an infant that may be a couple months older than it is supposed to be, would be of a size that it wouldn't be noticeable. :scratchin popcorn::

Add in all the crazy, scary Scientology stuff. :scared: :scared: :scared:
Then finally, years later, Katie's great escape! :woohoo: popcorn::

Yep, one of the best real, "reality TV" stories ever watched. :thumbsup2 popcorn:: popcorn:: popcorn::

It's what we had before "reality" TV. I used to be a very dedicated People Magazine reader but now I pick it up and have no clue who the hell these people are.

It was even before TMZ, which didn't start till 6 months after Tom & Katie got together. There was such a clamor for info about these two, all over the media and Internet groups, ("social media" as we now know it, also didn't really exist,) that I have to wonder if Harvey Levin didn't get the idea of sending out reporters, hiding in bushes to take pics of Katie's growing AND shrinking baby bump AND trying to get the real details of pre-nups & divorce filings, Suri sighting, etc.

This thread reminds me of the old ones we used to have about Tom and Katie and Suri.

Yeah, that was a great thread. It was hilarious and very entertaining the way we used to joke about helping Katie escape before it was too late and watching her ever changing baby bump. :rotfl2:Then the speculations of who Suri's real father is. :rotfl:

Then there was the really scary Scientology stuff we dug up. :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

Run Katie! Run! :scared:

"Back in those days"? How old is Suri? I know she's younger than my kids (20 and 18). 20 years ago a cheap, grocery store, home pregnancy test showed positve 10 days into my pregnancy. The docor confirmed it a week later.

That doesn't really change what that poster was getting at.

For them to know (and be far enough along to decide to announce) that she was pregnant, she would have had to already be pregnant when he was claiming that they were being "old fashioned" and waiting until marriage just a few weeks before.

See how easily it is to get sucked into all of this and wanting more details? :lmao:The old Suri thread started out with an innocent question by the OP too. Then it blew up into a 200+ page thread about Scientology & the Cruises.

From what I remember, as we joked on the Suri thread about how hard it was going to be to "Free Katie", because Katie had 2 Scientology handlers with her almost ALL the time, both in private & public, especially after her baby bump kept changing sizes and in the wrong direction. They weren't called "handlers." They gave themselves some other name, but it was apparent they were there to maintain control keep an eye out on her while teaching her the ways of Scientology.

Not sure if she ever did become a Scientologist. But, all that time we were joking and concerned for her, saying we'd help her escape, she just has to give all of us, on probably many Internet forums, a sign to help her get out, she and her father had already planned their own exit strategy from the start. :thumbsup2

I think it was TMZ that dug up that her father, who is or was a divorce attorney, had written up a couple sentences in the pre-nup. Seemingly an innocuous detail at the time, but ensured Katie's divorce with Suri intact. Katie also collected some info/evidence to use against Cruise. As I posted in an earlier post, TMZ estimated Cruise was worth $250 million at the time of their divorce. She WALKED away from it all. No spousal support. She could have gone for millions on Suri's behalf or even greater child support, which a court would have awarded them. But, in exchange for Tom not teaching Suri Scientology and not making her a Scientologist, Katie settled for a smaller amount of child support. She left all that to ensure her daughter's safety, freedom and mental well-being.

That says a lot about what Katie thinks of Scientology. And she had good prior examples of how Tom would raise Suri as a Scientologist and alienate her from Katie, if given a chance. She saw how Nicole had been alienated from her own children. She also knew how Tom filed for divorce from Nicole and did exactly the same thing to him. Nicole had been on location filming Moulin Rouge when she was notified.

The day Katie & Suri escaped, it has been speculated, that to not arouse suspicions of her Scientology handlers, that she hadn't even packed any bags. She & Suri were just going out shopping. Instead, they got on a plane to NY. Her father had secretly gotten the tickets for her.

This part is fact: The day the divorce was filed, Tom was on location in England, filming. At the time he received the notification, Katie & Suri were seen in public all over NYC, shopping. Of course, the paparazzi got wind of it and followed her & Suri's every move.

They finally followed her to her new apartment in NYC, secretly obtained for her by her father. :thumbsup2 (TMZ verified.)

She and Suri went out shopping the next several days & weeks, making it quite clear that she & Suri had established residence in their new home and weren't going back to Cruise. And of course, the news of her filing for divorce was out. For once, the busloads of normally annoying paparazzi following her every move and camped out in front of her place, kept her and Suri SAFE from abduction and secretly being brought back to Cruise by the Scientologists so she could be forced to continue that sham of a straight marriage, that "she had a change of heart." The most important edict in Scientology, above others, (according to Leah Remini,) is to not draw negative attention & publicity to the Church, at all costs. So they couldn't/wouldn't do anything with so many paparazzi around her, round the clock.

Instead the paparazzi documented Katie & Suri were SAFE & FREE in NY and away from Tom & Scientology.

It was brilliant!!! :worship: :worship: :worship:

Oh, I didn't know that. I stand corrected. However, unless one is planning on getting pregnant, they wouldn't be looking for signs so early. Her missing her period could have been brushed off as the stress of their suddenly public relationship.

I suppose. Then again, I was falling alseep eating dinner, while sitting at the table. I was getting plenty of sleep. The call a nurse person suggested I try a pregnancy test. I think it is possible that they found out she was pregnant when they say they did. We told people right away---not everone keeps it all secret for a trimester. Even among stars. It mostly just struck me as odd to read "back in those days" about what? ten years ago, and hten it be about pregnancy tests not being able to tell early in general.:rotfl2:

I do agree though that it is very odd if he was notoriously private and then suddenly wasn't that seems very odd. I never followed him/them more than the "you can't miss it beucase it is being talked baout everywhere) amount

I haven't really followed Katie and Tom all that much, but this thread has me totally intrigued.

So given all that, it sounds like she and her father were pretty much planning the divorce from the very beginning. So why did she marry him in the first place? It can't just be fore the money (although I wouldn't sneeze at $400,000 per year, Katie has her own lucrative career.) So what was the initial plan? What was her goal?

She was probably in love with him, and hoped it would last forever. That's usually why people get married.

The fact that she (or her father) actually "planned" for divorce means nothing. There's plenty of people right here on the Dis who say everyone should have a plan in place, against the possibility of death or divorce.

My guess would be that either Katie or her dad or both, looked at Tom's history with clear eyes and reasonable expectations, and then very carefully decided to give the marriage a chance. Katie's a smart (and lucky, in her family support) woman.
