I think the DIS has murdered another restaurant!

We ate there two days ago and found the food to be pretty good. We did feel very rushed though. My oldest son was in the bathroom and my husband said they came back to our table over and over asking if we were back yet (like it wasn't obvious!). He felt so uncomfortable, he paid the bill and left.

Of course, I didn't get to finish my dessert :(

We loved Kona last August, and were really looking forward to it this August. I have to say we were very disappointed with the food and the service was so-so. I's have to say that it was our worst TS meal of the trip. We won't be back any time soon.

OK, I'll bite!:rotfl: WHAT metal box? Sounds scary!

We ate at Kona on our first night on this past trip (Aug 31-Sept 5). We had never been but we loved it and will be going back next time we visit the World.

I
One thing to remember is that you can visit a restaurant twice and have 2 completely different experiences. Happen's all the time.:goodvibes

That's so true- I think I am just pressuring myself to make this a special experience for our family since we have two first timers, and our kids haven't been in 15 yrs.(they are now adults) At home, you can retry a restaurant next month- at Disney, it's one shot and you hope it is good.:worship:

I've also noticed a trend , and I know this is all fun stuff and DIS members have a great variety of opinions, but posts like this baffle me. I suppose people have different reasons for joining this type of forum, but I joined not only to get useful information that would help me, but hopefully return the favor and give back something that makes other's trips better, too. I'm new so maybe way off base, but so far for every hint of something that I have shared I've learned 100 times back in great, new! information I would not have known otherwise. One of my goals here is to post something nobody else knows but would love to learn about. It will never happen, but let's share what we know. Karma, whatever, good things come back to you, right? Whatever I will ever post here will never make a line longer or shorter, a restaurant better or worse, a bus come faster or slower. You think I'm right? What da ya think? If I'm wrong let me know. Harambe, it's nothing personal and maybe I misunderstand.

Have a magical weekend!!

No problem, Dizzytime! I've long stopped taking anyone's posts personally, because folks are just giving their opinions. And this post is just that - my opinion.

But I did post with the intention to "share" if you will, and the idea I'm sharing is that Kona Cafe may be declining (and again - totally my opinion). So I am a bit confused as to what you're saying here. I've also gathered tons of info from the boards, and as soon as I get back from a trip, I jump on the Dis, with hopes that I can answer any questions about the World, and to let folks know about magical moments & not-so-magical ones. I guess that's my feeble attempt at "giving back".

Anyway - I'm glad others have had tasty meals at Kona recently. Our meal was not, and since quite a few people have said their meals weren't up to snuff either, I still think Disney needs to take a look and correct whatever's going wrong over there. (IMO :) )

I have never eaten at Kona, but we have 3 breakfast ressies this week. DH wanted a sit down breakfast for the mornings he wasn't golfing. I still can't wait to try the food.

Let us know how those breakfasts are. We've never eaten breakfast at Kona - always dinner.

Have a great trip!

We had dinner there 2 years ago and were not impressed AT ALL. The kids meals are terrible. DS ordered soup as one of his sides, so that meant he got a hot dog for his entree - nothing else - just a hot dog on a plate. Then the kids desert is plain and boring compared to the adults. The adult food was just OK, nothing exciting. We didn't even consider going back last year and wont go this year either. :confused3

Sorry Harambe, I really don't write that well, I know what I put down is often confusing.
I'm sure you are great at sharing wonderful things you know about Disney, and it's obvious from your number of posts how much you like DIS how much you must get out this great place for information exchange.

The point I was trying to make is I have seen a trend in more posts that seem to imply, to me at least, that by posting favorable reviews or comments about a restaurant, attraction, whatever, especially one that's not so well known, isn't a good thing to do. 'Letting secrets out', so to speak. The title of your post conveyed that thought process to me, that is that DIS members are responsible (by posting good things) for something bad happening. I just could never begin to believe that .

I appreciate your opinion about Kona, just got off track for the implied reason I guess. Maybe it's just me.

Again, sorry I was confusing. Have a great weekend!

I was just scrolling through this, but TDC Nala, the picture of Thing made me laugh out loud! He would make any dessert presentation better.

Oh - now I see what you're saying! But I think folks really do want to help other Dissers when they give their opinions. And as we all saw here on this thread, some folks agree and others disagree. So folks reading the thread may try Kona and others may wait to see if everyone starts to offer more positive reviews down the road.

I'm glad you can't believe that posting positive things could ever be a bad thing. Because it isn't.

Now, I'm off to make dinner - and I gotta tell you, I'd eat at Kona right this second if it meant not having to cook dinner. :)

We ate at Kona a couple of weeks ago and we had a fabulous meal. We were seated very promptly and the service was fast and friendly. The food was fantastic and we even paid for a few appetizers OOP because my younger son was looking forward to the ones he had tried last year. The bread is always a hit with us and we had two loaves. We all enjoyed the appetizers, our entrees and desserts. We left completely stuffed. During our meal we listened to the muscian in the lobby and really enjoyed the performance.

Harambe, smart minds do think alike!
I'd rather be at Kona right now, too. Give me the crowds, tough steak, bad wings .. it still sounds like heaven to me!

For every good review there will be a few who share their less than stellar experiences.

We (party of six adults and one two year old) were at Kona Cafe very recently for breakfast.

The CMs at the podium were wonderful! Two in our party decided to surprise us and just "showed up". The CMs were very gracious and accommodated our need for a larger table.

The server was terrible. She clearly was having a bad day and took out her ill humor on her guests. Not a pleasant experience.

The food ranged from "good" to inedible. Mine was the inedible and I sent it away (and it was removed without asking from the bill). My DPs was little better. She ordered the omelette and it was very creatively arranged to hide the burned eggs. Yuck.

The baby's breakfast was fine, but since when does a Mickey pancake consist of one large cake with two smaller ones tucked under the large one to form the ears? :confused3

The managers were wonderful. They tracked down a special order cake, and served it with a nice level of fanfare while the unpleasant server stood to the side and rolled her eyes. (Seriously).

Needless to say when we were offered Kona as a dining option later in the stay, we politely refused.

I remember loving to have breakfast at Kona Cafe. It was such a treat, a really nice place with very good food and wicked fun servers.

That was not our total experience this time. The food is the main reason we won't be rushing back, but the miserable server didn't help either.

The managers, other servers (who were in on the fanfare) and the podium CMs were wonderful.

I had breakfast at Kona this July and my mom and I loved it. We split the Tonga Toast and it was absolutely delicious. Our server (can't remember the name) was super friendly, and very fast. We aren't using the dining plan on our upcoming trip, so we may pick up the Tonga Toast at Captain Cooks to save money, but we have enjoyed every visit to Kona.:goodvibes
