I think our hamster has wet tail.

She is 2 yrs. old and has been real quiet for the last couple of days. Tonight, we noticed that she is having diarrhea. I looked up some info on it and it appears to be wet tail. I hate to see her like this. Will a vet be able to do anything for her? Anyone deal with this before?

If I remember correctly (it's been awhile since I've had hamsters), wet tail CAN become very serious (even deadly). Call around to find a vet who has a knowledge of small animals and take your little critter in...

I'll have to take her tomorrow then. We don't have a vet, but will have to find one. I thought any vet could take care of a hamster, I guess I better ask when I call.

Most vets probably can...I don't think it will be hard to find one who can help your little girl.

Wet tail is very serious. My hamster had wet tail and we took him to the small animal vet right away. I'm pretty sure we had to give him medicine, I can't remember exactly. He ended up dying a couple of days later. The poor little guy wasn't very old and it was very hard on him.
I hope your hamster will be alright. If you look in the phone book I'm sure you'll be able to find a small animal vet. If not, call a regular vet and ask if they know of one.

She has been with us for two years and is very gentle. She lets us pet her and isn't a biter, she even has her own Christmas stocking with her picture (I know that sounds sappy). This is the first time that she has been sick and we have no previous experience with hamsters. I hate to see her like this. I'll take her to the vet tomorrow.

My son's class hampster had something like that and sorry to say he died. I think the life expectancy of a hampster is about 2 years. I'd get him to a vet ASAP.

I imagine a tiny hamster could become dehydrated very quickly.
My DD owned a small, gentle white rat for 2 years and we loved her dearly 9silly as that may sound--loving a rat!) She had a stroke of all things and my BIL, a vet, had to put her to sleep.

I had 2 baby squirrels back in Sept. who were severly dehydrated and didn't live. I had them 3 days and cried my eyes out when I lost them. They were so tiny and helpless.

If it's wet tail, that's not good news. Two years is a normal life span of a hamster. Having said that...I once took a hamster to the vet because he got his tooth stuck in one of the holes of his habittrail penthouse lid. The hamster became so stressed his eye popped out! I took him to the vet. The vet performed surgery and removed the eye and stitch it shut. It's amazing the little guy survived everything he did. It cost $70 for this $5 hamster but when the little guy came home I was a hero in the eyes of my DS!

My friend's little girl's hamster had wet tail a couple weeks ago. They had just got it from Petco so there was still a health guarantee on it. I was impressed because the store was able to get it treated right away and it is doing fine.
