DD and I walked through the neighborhood Monday when the weather was beautiful. I knew the local convenience store was exactly 1/2 mile and timed it to take 10 minutes to walk that distance. That would make a 20 minute walk equal to one mile on the pavement.

Why then, does my manual treadmill tell me that I only walk 1/10 mile every five minutes? It told me tonight that in 30 minutes I only walked 1 mile - which does make a bit more sense, but not much when I figured I could go a mile in 10 minutes less.

I know for me personally at a steady job I can go 1 mile in 12 minutes, 2.5 miles in 30 minutes. Not sure what pace you are walking at but I know for walking 1 mile would take me about 15 minutes or so

Hum does seem odd. If your certain you pace is the same as outside I'd go by what your time is.

Do you have a pedometer. See what it tells you on the treamill.

I used the chrono on my watch while I was on the TM and they were in sync. I don't think it calculates mileage accurately. :confused3 I am using the theory that 20 minutes equals a mile (unless I am taking a more casual stroll).

yeah cuz it doesn't sound right. Only thing I can think of is that since its manual the feet are working harder but a tad slower by the TM's account. But since it takes more hey its even better. ;) I probably wouldn't believe it either. I can do a 15 minute mile pretty easily even being overweight that is my casual pace. :confused3

I would concentrate more on time that you know it takes you to walk that many miles. :cool1:
