I think I have Disney burn out

Each time, as we are coming home, DH and I say "yep, that was the last trip for a while" but then, about 6-9 months later, I start planning again.

We went 3 times between 2001-2006, then to Euro Disney 3 times between 2006-2009 (military living in Germany), once to WDW in 2007 and now again in Dec 2009. But I really do think this might be the last one; DS is 8 and DD is 5 and I think they are ready to move on.

We're going to try Hawaii this spring and we're thinking of a Beaches-type vacation next spring. For now, we'll see some more of America, since we live here again.

Have never wanted to do Disneyland, don't know why. But as we've been so many times, we find now that we are able to take it slower, skip stuff if there are long lines or the weather is bad, we go to SeaWorld, outlet shopping, Kennedy Space Center --- in short, we don't feel pressured to spend every minute of every day in the parks.

I agree with the PPs who said relax, spend the day at the pool, go shopping, maybe just people watch. Maybe you are feeling too pressured to do the "typical" things?

We leave for Disney in 2 days and I am not excited.

We have been every year (sometimes more than once) for the last 7-8 years.

We are known as the Disney family, we have Disney stuff displayed in our house, etc.

Yet oddly enough I seem to have had enough of it. I am sick of looking at the Disney stuff, I am not interested in watching the movies, and I don't want to go on this trip. Normally I have everything planned, organized and packed by now. I have things planned that I need to have planned, I started packing but stopped and I feel very disorganized compared to usual, but not enough that I am willing to put in any effort on it.

I want to take a break from Disney, but I am not sure the rest of my family will agree.

I am also worried about being a downer of this trip for them. They are going to want to see and do everything and I just don't have it in me to put forth the energy that is needed for this trip.

What am I going to do?

I can not believe you posted this as this is exactly how I feel! We leave in a few days as well. My dh who is not usually disney crazy is totally psyched about this trip. He tells me it will be great because I don't want to go, therefore we have no expectations. We have absolutely no must do rides or parks. I stay on the boards to try to get excited but it is not working well. All I keep thinking about is I am tired of Disney getting our money. It all is starting to seem overyplayed. Perhaps I will feel different when we get down there. It does not help that I love Fall and have zero desire for 100 degree weather.

I thought I would never get Disney burn-out, but I did and sounds like you probably have it too. We have also gone at least once a year since the kids were born. Always have enjoyed our trips there. Now we also travel other places but WDW was the BIG trip.

We were going to go over Christmas and cancelled that trip and are going skiing instead. While the kids in passing have made a few comments about missing WDW, they are totally stoked about going skiing again like last winter holiday!!

Give WDW a break -- its a big world out there and so much to explore!!

That is so what I want to do this year. DH says we can make the "ski trip" our big vacation next year! Looking forward to that plus the boys will be older. I started pricing things out and boy that will give you some sticker shock! LOL Who knew a winter vacay could make Disney lookl like a bargain.:rotfl:

I think sometimes if you read the Disboards alot, you see people who are going 3 times a year and are hyper excited and have the perfect plan and have their reservations done 359 days out...But most people aren't like that! You can't live up to that!

You don't have to have the perfect Disney vacation...I always like to have at least one new activity/ride/restaurant I want to do, and everything else is gravy. See what your DH is into...go with the flow on what the kids want to do. You know how they always bug you to go to the pool? Spend and afternoon at the pool!

Personally, I think the more you go, the less you need to plan (other than some Dinner reservations). Just enjoy and relax!

..Plus maybe think about going to Universal Studios some time! you will find things there that you will love, and it will also make you appreciate some things about Disney.

Hmmm. Not sure if you can get away with this, but any chance you could just hang out at the resort by yourself with a good book or a few magazines? That way the rest of the family is having fun and you are getting some R&R and time to yourself. You can meet them later in the day for lunch or dinner.

I know how you feel. I love Disney but every once in awhile I question if there is something more out there that we would love just as much. We went to California this past summer (and NO, we did not go to DisneyLand) and had a blast. Just find a way to get thru this upcoming trip and then re-evaluate your next vacation. Good Luck!
