I Survived the Parks in My Skecher's Shape Ups

I've worn many types of shoes to Disney. For me, it came down to prepping the feet more than what type of shoe I wore.
Cotton socks and body glide is what keeps my feet feeling fine in Disney.
We logged 30 miles of walking in four park days last trip and not even a hot spot! :)

I just recently heard about body glide! I'm going to order this before our next trip. I always get horrible blisters, hopefully this will help. Do you just apply to bottom of feet and put socks on??

REALLY???:confused3 I have severe plantar fascitis and neg heel shoes have been my saving grace! Shape Ups are wonderful!!!! I feel like I'm getting my life back! My foot problems were so bad they were causing pain in my knee and hip. I am almost completely pain free now in those areas as well. I think I'll head to Kohl's and get a 2nd pair w/ my 20% coupon!!!!:goodvibes:cool1::yay:
I agree, I love both my Fit Flops and my MBTs. It's like the sole of my foot is stretched with every step I take, like doing my exercises without actually having to do them. In fact I'm thinking I should look into the Skechers.

Like the other person I said, I also have freakishly high arches (as in, if I wear most dress shoes, the top of my arch is above the top of the side of the shoe) and they were great for me. Maybe they're good for PF if you have high arches, and bad if you have flat feet? Both those things put you at risk for PF.

So, do any of you actually feel shaped-up from your Skechers? I hate to spend that much money just for a comfy shoe. I'm lucky not to have problems with my feet, so really any old pair of sneakers will do. However, if a pair of shoes can tone me up, then I"m interested!
I once wore my MBTs to walk all over Washington DC for three days (full days), including taking the stairs at every Metro station, and my thighs were visibly more toned afterwards. But you have to do an extraordinary amount of walking to feel the benefit (after going back to my normal routine, my thighs went back to normal too). OTOH it's much more comfortable on your back and knees than wearing regular shoes.

These are going to have to drop way down in price. I would love to try them but there is no way I will drop $100 on a pair of shoes.

The first year we went to Disney, we did 7 days in the parks, and did a lot of criss crossing, and I did a lot of running for fast passes. I had a fairly new pair of Sketchers I had purchased for the trip, and an old crappy pair of $15 sneakers from Wal Mart. I put several miles of walking around my home town on the Sketchers before the trip, and was very comfy in them, until the first day of the vacation. By mid day the first day, my feet were miserable, and I thought the trip was going to suck for me.

Absolutely the ONLY good thing that came out of us trying to take mid day breaks was the opportunity to change from my nice new Sketchers to my old beaten up $15 Wal Mart sneakers. My feet instantly felt like they were home when I put those sneakers on. I wore them for the rest of the trip, and walked miles and miles in them, and my feet never bothered me a bit for the rest of the trip.

Last summer, I bought a pair of Nike sneakers about two months before the trip, and made sure I broke them in very well ahead of time. I took along a pair of the Wal Mart sneakers just in case. The Wal Mart sneakers are still sitting here pretty much brand new. I've worn the Nike's just about completely out, and they still feel great on my feet.

I guess I'm pretty lucky, at 40 years old, being somewhat over weight, and diabetic, I should probably expect to have problems with my feet, yet I am able to walk all over Disney World (and believe me, we walk a lot in Disney), and don't have to spend a ton of money of foot wear. I buy cheap socks, and don't ever spend much more than $50 on a pair of sneakers, and my feet are happy as can be, just not in Sketchers.

I wore them a few months before I had problems, and the only thing I cansay was they helped my lower back pain and posture. No weight loss or toning from them

I've been using mine on the treadmill in the mornings, and pretty much everywhere else. I love them!!! I wore them to MK on sunday, and they were HEAVEN!!!! I do want a pair of the sandals before the june trip, they help my feet, posture, lower body joints, the works. Which is a HUGE step for me, I have a rare type of muscular dystrophy, and my joints ALWAYS hurt, so me walking around the park with nothing but advil and feeling good, is a big step!!!!!!! I do feel like they're toning the back parts of my legs and my butt but only when I'm on the treadmill walking at a brisk pace.

Do you just apply to bottom of feet and put socks on??
Yes.

It comes packaged like deodorant. Just apply it where you usually have problems, but avoiding cotton is key to avoiding blisters. In athletic events, where sweating is common, cotton hasn't been used in years. a few good pairs of wicking socks is a small investment.

How is the tread life on these shoes? For the price I would expect them to last more than 6 months but the tread looks awfully shallow.

I just returned from WDW wearing Sketchers Shape Ups and they were wonderful! I developed achilles tendonitis while at WDW last fall. I blame my Chaco sandals, because the extreme pain started after wearing those sandals all day at AK. My orthopedic surgeon and physical therapist gave me stretches to do, and a night splint to wear. I was seeing some improvement, but reached a plateau after Christmas. On my last visit to my orthopedic surgeon, he suggested I try the Shape Ups. He said there is no scientific research to support it, but that many of his patients with achilles tendonitis and/or plantar faciatis were getting relief with these shoes. To me, $100 for shoes is cheaper than physical therapy, so I bought some. I alternated between these and Croc Patricia sandals. They made my trip enjoyable. The one day I wore my New Balance shoes instead, I was ready for a midday break to switch back to my shape ups!

I also used Body Glide for the first time and got moisture wicking socks. All together it was a winning combination.

I am also a RN in a busy ER...a lot of the staff have the Sketcher but I have the Reebok EasyTone...they have the bosu ball soles....i love them...however don't wear the to group power class...to hard to balance in the shoes and do quick step weight lifting...hahaha about fell over..that would have been a picture!!

Love those Therlo socks! They are a bit pricey - so that's why I always ask for a pair for Christmas.

I love my shape ups. They did take a while to break in. I did put moleskin on my heels before each day just to make sure that I didn't get a blister. My feet survived just great. The only problem I had was at AK. The rough pavement made it hard for me to balance, but I have balance problems to begin with. I will be wearing them again to WDW.

I wore these for four weeks walking four miles per day and never once did I get sore. Put my regular shoes on yesterday and now I am very sore. I don't know that these really give you the extra workout they claim anymore.

I had a bout of Plantar Fascitis and these shoes saved me..the only other shoes that worked for me were my Danskos, and I was always turning my ankle in them. I haven't had a flareup since buying mine so I think maybe they just didn't agree with you. I saw an orthopedic surgeon for my problem and he said they were fine. I have high arches though-I know some with PF have flat feet, maybe this was why?

I have a pair for the OR and a pair that I wear at home. Going to get a pair for my next trip..they make a sandal too!

I have awful PF problems and Dansko's were the only thing that helped me and I too keep rolling over my ankle in them. I have been looking into these shoes. Glad to hear they worked for you. I do have falling arches, so I am a littler nervous.
