I Suppose the Baby Can Come, As Well-A December 2013 PTR Updated 12/13* TR Link Up

Yay, we got our Magic Bands recently too! :cool1: Only we haven't tried the baby's on yet, though, so good to know it should fit!

Also, so glad you finally got a discount! pixiedust: Great news!

Plans look good for that day. I can't wait to see the new projection show on the castle. Hope your day goes smoothly and Landon has a blast!

I really didn't think the MagicBands would fit baby wrists, but they surprised me.
That being said, I doubt he'll wear his. Landon would spend the day trying to get it off and dropping it on the ground and then putting it in his mouth. We'll probably put it on long enough for some pictures each day, then it'll make its way into the diaper bag. :rotfl:

17 days to go!

17!

And that’s just until Disney. We only have 11 days until we are officially on vacation and relaxing in Central Florida.

I need to get my behind in gear and get these day to day plans finished. In the words of Alex, “How am I supposed to know what the heck we’re doing if you don’t write the plans?!”:rotfl:

Day 5 (Thursday, December 5th):

This update will be sparse compared to my other ones, mainly because I don’t have any of my own pictures to use.

Because everything we do this day will be completely 100% new to us!

For us Disney nuts, experiencing new sights/events in the world is always a big deal. To see and do things that we haven’t done a million times before will be refreshing, and it kind of gives us all something extra to look forward to.

Well, for me.

Alex isn’t exactly crazy about part of the plans, but he knows it’s important to me so he is being cooperative and going with it.

This will be our semi-down day of the trip. Which, I am sure by then will be much needed.

Hopefully, if Landon permits, all of us will get to sleep in a little bit. Even if the boy gets us up at an ungodly hour, Alex and I can at least hang out in the room and let him play with his toys for awhile.

Any morning that starts out lounging in PJ pants at Disney is a good indicator of how the rest of the day will go.

::yes::

Sometime around 8:30am (I know I said we’d be taking our time, but trust me, when you’ve got a kid who wakes up a 5, those 3 hours seem like an eternity to a parent.) my group will hop in the car and go to:

Animal Kingdom Lodge!

I am so, so, so excited to visit this resort! I have been dreaming of staying here on a vacation for years, but I’ve never actually seen it with my own two eyes.

It just seems so beautiful, and I love the safari theme. My favorite animal is a giraffe, and I just can’t get over the thrill of being able to see them from your room.

Plus, a big draw is that it is the least expensive out of all the deluxes, and with a military discount it is actually affordable for us. So, when Alex and I get to finally dip our feet in the deluxe resort waters, AKL will most likely be our first stay.

While I could go just to look around and explore, I did book us a breakfast reservation at 9:20am.

This is going to be a stretch.

I’m still not sure how I got Alex to agree to go eat here.

Then again, I didn’t.

:lmao:

I just sort of told him to deal with it and get some eggs and waffles.

He’s not an adventurous eater, and I figured if there was ever a meal I could get him to eat, it was breakfast. So, while I am unbelievably excited to try a new and different place to eat, Alex is a little wary.

Meh, my anticipation drowns out his apprehensions….

There’s no rush this morning for anything, so the four of us might stay a bit longer and watch the animals for a bit, or we have considered driving over to the Magic Kingdom area and checking out some more resorts. This is more for if we don’t have the time or desire to see them all on our arrival day.

When the resort tour(s) is/are done, we are all going to hang out at Pop in the early afternoon. I plan on doing laundry, because I’d be surprised if Landon hadn’t ruined a dozen outfits by that point.

If I know my travel partners, my mom will swim in one of the pools for a bit, while Alex hits up the arcade and uses the credits we get with our Mickey Mail. I don’t really know what I will do, but that’s exactly what I want.

If Landon naps, then my first priority will be to sleep and rest up since we’ll be out late that night. If not, I might take him around Pop and get some photos of the resort, explore the various sections, etc.

Sometime in the early afternoon, probably around 2 or 3pm, I’ll drag my mom, Alex, and the baby across the lake to Art of Animation.

I have been curious to check this resort out and see how well I enjoy the theme and layout. I have no doubt in years to come, when our family is a bit bigger and Landon’s older, Alex and I will stay at Art many, many times. And with the place being just a short walk away, it would be kind of silly not to at least go take a look at it.

I want to eat a late lunch/early dinner at their food court, because I have heard nothing but amazing reviews about it. There seems to be such a variety to the menu, and I know there’s some fresh food available.

And by “fresh” I mean stuff that’s not fried or standard quick service items. It’s nice to have some different choices, especially ones that aren’t available at Pop.

I know we’ll be eating super early, but we have good reason to be. Because, at around 3:30 or so, we’ll be going to our first ever Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party!

I cannot wait to attend the party and experience the event for the first time. I love Christmastime and the holiday theme, and I can only imagine how well Disney does with that. I’m sure it’s superb.

In the time between 4 and 7pm, we have Fastpasses for Dumbo, Jungle Cruise.

Or should I say…

Jingle Cruise!

And a meet and greet with Rapunzel.

Alex and I are so excited to have Landon meet the princesses. Unlike the other characters, we are 100% positive Landon is going to adore these girls.

He cannot go anywhere without full on ogling chicks around him. Blondes more so than anyone else.

And he knows how to get their attention, too. Eyeball them meekly over a parent’s shoulder. Raise the eyebrows, break out a full toothless grin. Add in a giggle and bounce and he’s got them hook, line, and sinker.

:rolleyes2

It’s beyond ridiculous.

So, my kid is going to have an absolute field day with Rapunzel and Snow White. All that attention directed solely on him…

I’m also looking forward to seeing the new Princess Fairytale Hall, just to take it in with my own two eyes. The little kid inside of me can’t help but delight in all the little details of the building.

As far as the actual Christmas Party is concerned, I am a horrible Disney planner and don’t have ANY concrete plans yet.

Shocking!

I am not really concerned with any of the meet and greets and dance parties, so I don’t feel like I have to map out where I need to be at every exact moment.

I sort of want to take the party slow and just relax and enjoy the shows.

Obviously, the parade will be a must, but I figured we’d catch the 2nd one. Perhaps go on some rides while the first one is occurring. Alex and I used this method for the Halloween Party, and it worked great.

Then again, if Landon’s actually awake near the time the first parade is happening, I might alter the plans so that he can see it.

The main event I want to see while we’re there is Holiday Wishes.

I’ve watched the video of this show about a hundred times, and Landon recognizes the soundtrack, so it’d just be criminal to miss it.

I guess I should mention, too, that many cookies and cups of hot cocoa will be consumed by all. Probably more than is prudent, but oh well….who knows when we’ll get to go to another party.

Also, with my shopping obsessed husband, right around the time the party begins, he'll go look for some cool party merchandise.

That'll take up an hour or so...

:rotfl2:

The party lasts until midnight, but I have no set time as to when to leave. It’ll be whenever we want to get Landon to bed and have seen and done enough to feel like we’ve gotten our money’s worth.

We’re pretty go with the flow in regards to Day 5.

We’ll see how that works out for us.

As I said, though, I am looking forward to a slower paced day where we do several new things. I can’t wait to see the new resorts, attend the party, and get some extra rest. Should prove to be an interesting day.

This day sounds awesome (besides the laundry, hahahaha). You will ADORE Animal Kingdom Lodge, guaranteed. I'm sure yall will also really love Art of Animation! It's amazing. I got jealous of the people staying there every time I saw it from Pop, hahaha. And the Christmas party will be amazing as well! Get as many cookies as you can, even if you have to sneak some out in your bag. They are THAT good. ;)

Looks like a nice, slow-paced day. I think Boma for breakfast should be just fine. I mean, all the restaurants are pretty much have standard menus for breakfast, aside from maybe a few specialty items. I don't think their eggs, or bacon or waffles or whatever will be any different from what you get anywhere else.

The princess meet should be fun. I'm sure they will respond well to Landon too. We noticed that last year. They seemed to pay more attention to DS than DD. I think they just enjoy seeing a little boy in line instead of another little girl dressed like a princess or something. :rotfl:

And if it takes an hour to look at the party merchandise, then they must really be stepping up their game from the past couple of years. :rotfl::lmao::rotfl2:

OK that day sounds ridiculously PERFECT! I'm not an adventurous eater either so I thing your breakfast idea is a good one. I also really want to see the new Princess meet and greet, I'm sure they will love Landon. I hope you enjoy the Christmas party, I hope to go for the first time next year.

Looks fun! We love AoA you guys will have fun touring it!

It looks like such a cool resort; I look forward to seeing it in person!

I have a feeling I'll be the same way at Pop. :rotfl:

Oh, now I can't wait to try those cookies! I am not above sneaking them into my bag, either. Gotta have a snack later on back in the room. :lmao:

It's got to be a nice change of pace for the princesses to meet a little boy. There's only so many times you can tell a "Cinderella" she looks adorable or admire a "Snow White's" pose. :rotfl2:

I've heard 2 of the 4 pins that are exclusive to MVMCP are already sold out, so I can definitely dock off a lot of Alex's shopping time. :rolleyes2

It's really exciting to be able to try several new things, and MVMCP is something I have been wanting to do for several years now. I've heard it's better than MNSSHP, and I really enjoyed that one....I hope you get the chance, as well, next year!

I have arrived to defend my side of the trip when Alicia messes up.

There's nothing to defend.

I speak only the gospel honest truth here.

:lmao:

Before I jump into my update, I wanted to mention that Alex has succumbed to the pull of the DISboards and created his own username. If you see USAFdad bad mouthing my updates, don’t worry about it. Although, that shouldn’t happen very often, because he ALWAYS comes out smelling like roses in my recaps. :rotfl2:

Day 6 Plans (Friday, Dec. 6th):

I’m not sure how late all of us will have stayed out the night before at MVMCP, but no matter, we’ll all be up and at ‘em bright and early in order to get to:

The park doesn’t open until 9 am, but I do want to get there right when it opens.

Just my two cents, but I think the holiday decorations at AK are fantastic. The natural designs are just appealing to me, and I think this park has a lot of free space, so they have more decorations than some of the other places.

The themed trees around the park are a particular favorite of mine. Makes me wish I had enough space in my house to decorate multiple ones. (Fake trees, though….could you imagine, 6 trees’ worth of pine sap and needles! It’d be like that scene in National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation where Chevy Chase is getting stuck on a magazine, lamp, etc.:rotfl:)

Oops, not the trees we’re talking about. But still one we’ll want to show Landon.

He’s going to lose his mind over the size of it. The kid’s got a thing for trees and plants, so he probably won’t know what to do with the Tree of Life.

We’ve got a 9:00am to 10:00am Fastpasses for Kilimanjaro Safari, but I’m hesitant about using them.

I would enjoy seeing the animals and the new poacher-less storyline, but I worry about Landon behaving for that long of a time. There’s no telling if the giraffes and elephants will hold his attention, and just my luck he’ll get fussy right around the time when there’s a vehicle backup.

My mom and Alex won’t see any issues with it, but I just don’t know. Guess I’ll see what his mood’s like on that particular day.

Right after the safari window, Fastpasses for Everest open up.

10-11.

My mom might actually want to go on this again, so Rider Swap will certainly be put in use here.

No matter if I fight the broken Yeti with her or my husband, my adjoining seat buddy will have to hear how Everest is so much cooler at night than during the day.

I’m not really thrilled about the new Avatarland, but I know guests are going to LOVE riding Everest after its dark with the new late hours. It’s one of the best perks of running in the EE 5K Challenge, and I wish I could experience it on every trip.

But daytime will suffice…

:rolleyes2

At 11:30, we have a lunch reservation at Yak and Yeti.

I’ve heard the Wontons on the dessert menu are to die for, and Alex is looking forward to trying this restaurant out.

A little consolation prize for suffering through Boma the day before.

After lunch, our plans are up in the air. I figured if we want to walk the trails (ie; put Landon to sleep in the stroller) or stroll around, I’d have no problem doing that.

This will be the first trip to AK that I won’t being seeing my favorite show, FotLK.

I’m a little saddened by that, but even thinking about getting Landon to stay quiet for a 40 minute show gives me tremors.

I reserved 3 Fastpasses for Dinosaur around 1pm, and if my mom and Alex want to ride it once, I’ll be more than happy to spend some mother/son time roaming around.

I have no problem skipping the attraction.

Why?

This is why:

Even without the dino there, that would still be my reaction.

It’s just too much sensory overload for me.

My group will take our usual afternoon break, then comes the part of the trip I’m looking forward to the most.

Alex and I are leaving Landon with the grandma and spending the evening touring Disney like we used to. Just the two of us!

:cool1:

Well, that’s our hope.

There’s some factors that have to play into our hand in order to be able to do it, but I’m staying positive that it will happen.

Our tentative goal is to drop him off around 4:30 with a bottle for him to have around 7. If I can do that, then Alex and I can stay out until Landon’s bedtime. If my mom takes care of bathtime, PJ dressing, and storytime, then I can pick him around 9:30/10:00pm to finish the nighttime routine.

That’s 5 hours of baby-free Disney time.

5 entire hours!

What’ll we do with ourselves???

The Magic Kingdom has MVMCP going on that evening, so we won’t be going on Splash and Space.

Maybe we’ll go to DHS and congregate in the coaster area.

I would be up for 2 or 3 trips on RNRC.

I might even be able to convince Alex to do single rider on ToT.

The park closes at 8pm, though, so the two of us wouldn’t exactly be partying it up in that particular park.:rotfl2:

I wouldn’t mind skipping over to Beaches and Cream for a sundae afterwards, but it’s not high on Alex’s wish list.

Epcot has evening extra magic hours that night, and with MK closing early, that park is going to be packed!

But what the heck, we might decide to brave it.

Alex suggested using our vouchers for DisneyQuest, but ehh. That’s something he can explore with Landon once he gets older.

I’d say we could catch a movie or go bowling at DTD, but those are all things we can do at home. Why waste precious coaster time?

In the end, we’ll figure out the plans that evening. The important thing is we get a date night at Disney, and Grandma gets her grandkid all to herself. She has a few ideas in mind on what she wants to do, most involve Photopass pictures with Mickey Ears.

Looking at the end of this trip, I’m happy I left so many plans open. The goal is for everything to be relaxing and easygoing. To not have that inner voice screaming at me, “We’re missing Star Tours! We’re not supposed to be at this park yet! C’mon, follow the drill!”

Not to mention, if I decide to be lazy and just take an extra long nap without keeping an ear tuned for a baby cry, I won’t feel guilty.

Might not be the best use of my Disney time, but it’s definitely taking advantage of being on vacation. :lmao:

We’ll see…

Alex and I did toy around with the idea of staying at Shades of Green again. The resort is absolutely gorgeous, and the rooms…

Oh, the rooms are splendid.

They are over double in size to the values, so there’d be plenty of space for Landon, and they have the 2 vanity sink/2 room bathrooms. That alone saves so much time in the morning when we’re trying to get ready.

And we’d be paying almost 20 dollars less a night for a deluxe-sized suite.

So why aren’t we jumping on this immediately, you ask?

Well, because as great as Shades of Green is, it doesn’t give you that Disney atmosphere. There’s nothing that makes you feel like you are inside the Disney bubble, and that is something Alex really enjoys about the resorts.

Plus, no dining plan. And while we’re almost to the point where we think we are going to cancel the Dining Plan from our reservation, we like the system and don’t want to be forced into a decision just solely based on where we’re laying our pretty little heads to sleep.

My husband and I had the same thought about staying in an Art of Animation suite vs. Shades too.

I'm actually surprised you had such issues with the military discount. We called same day and the system was down so we called the next day and applied the discount to our existing reservations. They did have to move us to the Cars suite from Lion King. Which was ok by me.

I also had no problem adding a night at Pop Century about a month ago.

We ultimately decided to add a night on the front end of our trip at Shades. I'm a little excited about it, but frankly the prices make me think about cancelling AoA and just staying at Shades the whole time!

your plans look great so far! I can't believe how soon your trip is! It's good to be flexible, it's so hard to predict how babies are going to react to each situation. Gavin was fine on the safari and things that were moving. He was fine in Turtle Talk with crush, but he wasn't interested in the show. Muppets was a miss (he would've been fine since I was about to nurse him but I got shown the door!) and he wasn't so hot with the Hall of Presidents but I nursed him through that show so we were fine. I don't think we attempted any other shows on our trip. There will be more Disney trips in Gavin's future and I know he will enjoy them when he's older. It's funny because the things I thought he would really love he was just "meh" about, like The seas pavilion, and all the animals on the safari. :confused3

We also eat really healthy at home and are super picky about what Gavin has. Something we started saying in Disney was "there are no rules in Disney" and now that we are home it's "this isn't Disney World, there are rules here!" Disney is the perfect place to let loose! A sundae at Beaches and Cream sounds amazing. We haven't been there yet. 5 hours alone... I would pee in peace, take a shower, and a nap. Oh wait, 5 hours alone in Disney... big decision :rotfl2:

I know I had more to say but I am totally having mommy brain right now...

Just got caught up on the last two days.

I hope you love Animal Kingdom Lodge! It is our second favorite resort (right behind the Poly)! So amazing to go out to your balcony and watch the animals! I hope you get to stay there someday. Not to mention that it's home to great restaurants too....like that super yummy breakfast at Boma! Mmmmm. Although, be warned, their eggs are indeed different than standard ones...they are better and have goat cheese in them. I'm sure Alex will find things he likes, though.

Sounds like a nice relaxing day. I hope some good napping occurs.

I wish we could go see Art of Animation and eat in that food court. I just don't think we can fit it in this trip. But, like you, I'm sure we'll be staying there on future visits. Looks so fun!

Ah, the Christmas Party! I think it's a good plan to not be overly-planned for this. As long as you have your priorities (parade & fireworks) and plan for them, I think you'll have a great time. Just wandering around and seeing the added touches (red and green lighting, snow falling on Main Street, etc.) is a ton of fun. Oh, and getting some nice Photopass pictures too. It works out well that Landon has such a late bedtime. Our issue is that Dug Baby is used to going to bed at 7pm, so I'm still a bit up in the air on the Christmas party. It will probably come down to how well she sleeps in her stroller at WDW.

For Animal Kingdom, I'm hoping Dug Baby will enjoy the safari. I don't know about Landon, but she's usually okay if she's moving. If we were just sitting there, she may get bored. Maybe have a special toy you can pull out if there's a back-up? We are (probably) skipping the Finding Nemo show for the same reason that you are skipping Lion King. However, I've heard that Lion King is a pretty interesting show for the little ones, since there's so much action and variety. Also, my memory is that it's on the noisier side, so if she's squealing or something, it may not really be an issue. I'm hoping, at least.

A date night sounds amazing! I hope you have a wonderful 5 hours!

So excited for you that your trip is just two weeks away! :cool1: How exciting.

I am a bit behind, but your day 5 & 6 plans look wonderful. I am sure Alex will find plenty to eat at Boma. They really do have a lovely variety of yummy things, even for the picky eater.

I think AoA is adorable. You will love visiting it.

Yay for some baby free time! You are sure to enjoy that.

I still have some catching up to do, but loving the pictures!

Although, be warned, their eggs are indeed different than standard ones...they are better and have goat cheese in them.
..... Goat cheese? Why can't it just be regular cheese. If its not broke dont fix it.

There's nothing to defend.

I speak only the gospel honest truth here.

I love you but I know the truth.

I wouldn’t mind skipping over to Beaches and Cream for a sundae afterwards, but it’s not high on Alex’s wish list.

I'm game.

(Fake trees, though….could you imagine, 6 trees’ worth of pine sap and needles! It’d be like that scene in National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation where Chevy Chase is getting stuck on a magazine, lamp, etc.:rotfl:)

I think he'd be fine. There's plenty to look at other than just animals. You mentioned he liked trees and plants. And kids like to bounce so that truck ride should be nice. :thumbsup2 :rotfl2:

Seriously though, we haven't had any issues with our kids on that ride, and we typically avoid the shows and drawn out attractions that might be an issue. I think you just have to play it by ear and see how he's responding when it is time to head there. :confused3

No matter if I fight the broken Yeti with her or my husband, my adjoining seat buddy will have to hear how Everest is so much cooler at night than during the day.
Kind of like Thunder Mountain? :thumbsup2

I really hope to be able to experience it first hand after dark one of these days.

Why?

This is why:
:rotfl2::lmao: Oh, come on! It isn't that bad. :rolleyes1

Alex and I are leaving Landon with the grandma and spending the evening touring Disney like we used to. Just the two of us!
:banana: :cool1: :woohoo::yay::jumping1:

Maybe we’ll go to DHS and congregate in the coaster area.

I would be up for 2 or 3 trips on RNRC.
Sounds like a plan to me. Is there really anything else to discuss at this point??? :confused3

The park closes at 8pm, though, so the two of us wouldn’t exactly be partying it up in that particular park.:rotfl2:
But... you could probably make your way over to Streets of America shortly before 8 and linger among the Osborne Lights a little past closing time... :rolleyes1

I’d say we could catch a movie or go bowling at DTD, but those are all things we can do at home. Why waste precious coaster time?
Exactly!!!! :thumbsup2 Splitsville looks like a cool place, but yeah... I'm not going to go to Disney World to go bowling when I can do that at home.

In the end, we’ll figure out the plans that evening. The important thing is we get a date night at Disney, and Grandma gets her grandkid all to herself. She has a few ideas in mind on what she wants to do, most involve Photopass pictures with Mickey Ears.
And everybody wins. :thumbsup2

I think our dates are what made it so difficult to get the military discount. We'll be there around Pop Warner week and Free Dining, so I'm sure there weren't a lot of room available.

Shades of Green is a great resort, and if Alex didn't want the MagicBands, we'd have stayed there again. The rooms are huge, but you won't be able to participate in FP+. So, you have to weigh whether or not you want to try the new system or not.

I'm sure everything I've said that Landon's going to love, he's going to prove me wrong and hate! :rotfl2:

We definitely follow that "rules don't apply here" rule while on vacation!

Just got caught up on the last two days.

Landon might enjoy the safari, so long as we don't have to stop a lot. :confused3

There is a lot happening during FotLK; I think if there's ever a show a baby could sit through, it'd be that one.

I'm thinking, with a breakfast buffet, there has to be SOMETHING Alex will eat. I mean, even if it's just fruit and waffles. Better than nothing....

..... Goat cheese? Why can't it just be regular cheese. If its not broke dont fix it.

You'll survive.:rotfl2:

I really hope to be able to experience it first hand after dark one of these days.

It's amazing and much better than the daytime version. ::yes::

But... you could probably make your way over to Streets of America shortly before 8 and linger among the Osborne Lights a little past closing time... :rolleyes1

That is true. Something to add to the possibility list.

Well, I leave for my in-laws on Sunday night, and you'd think I'd be dying with anticipation.

Unfortunately, things have not been going as well as hoped at our house.

Last week, Landon was dealing with Hand, Foot, Mouth.

(Thank you, friends, for sharing toys.)

And then, on Saturday, he gave it to me! (Which is not a common thing, I must say. And it looks super funky on adults.) In addition to that, I came down with a bacterial infection and am on antibiotics to try and beat it.

So for the past 4 days or so, I've been trying my hardest to rest up and look up crazy at-home remedies to try and speed this process up!

I'd like to say I'll finish my day to day plans before I leave, but that'd be a big fact tall tale. I haven't even cleaned my house or packed yet.

The whole situation is a little stressful, especially because I'm not seeing any improvement. But I'm staying positive that I can take a quick turn and recover by this Sunday.

Let's keep our fingers crossed!

I've seen your posts on FB and have felt terrible for you. It's one thing to have all that happen at any time, but I can only imagine how stressed you are considering how close the trip is. I'm sorry to hear that you're not excited about the trip, but I can certainly understand. I'm praying that things start looking up for you and that you all feel 100% very, very soon!

Wow... I feel your pain. Literally. DS had that in July 2012. And subsequently gave it to me. :faint:

It cleared up for him after only a couple of days. I was home from work for a week before it finally cleared up. And I don't think I've ever felt as miserable and awful as I did that week. I couldn't stand to eat because of the mouth/throat part, I had a ridiculously high fever and just generally felt like crap. On the bright side, it was during the Olympics, so I at least got to sit around the house and watch a lot of things I'd never see otherwise. :lmao:

Anyway, I feel your pain. Take care of yourself and get well soon. It does seem to be slow to go away, but I'm sure you'll be fine in time for the trip. :thumbsup2

Keeping my fingers crossed for you to feel better! As long as you are feeling good on vacation, the house can be cleaned when you get home. :goodvibes
