I should know this..

Pete himself posted to the thread and says it is staying open. It seems to have turned back to being a bit more civil.

I'll refrain from saying what I think about some people, but I am glad that I know a bit more about them. ;)

I saw the thread and I didn't think your original post should have ignited the sillyness that followed. Not your fault,

It's almost not safe to start a thread.
I started one on the transportation board asking about pre-boarding on SouthWest for my mother and aunt. I made the mistake of saying that they were concerned about getting a decent seat because of their knee replacement surgeries. I felt lectured about people with knee surgeries not qualifying for pre-boarding. My question was only how to GET pre-boarding, not if they qualified.
Seriously now, did I have to explain EVERY reason why they need to pre-board? They're in their 80's, can't walk very well nor quick, cataracts prevent good eye-sight, they haven't flown in years and are intimidated because they don't know what to do. One had hip replacement and knee replacement, the other had two knee replacements--if that doesn't qualify for needing assistance, I don't know what does.
I'm sure this same person wouldn't give up their seat on the bus for a senior.
Gosh, had I said the above, I would have been grilled as to why they're going to WDW. Well, I never said they were going to WDW, they're going to St. Augustine to visit their brother.
Honestly, some people just look for the bad.
I didn't mean to hijack your thread, just to commisserate.

Peg...

I saw your thread too and thought what a great thing for the "little ones". By page 2 I couldn't understand how it turned into what it did. Yikes!

I think people have their own axes to grind, and they used your very innocent thread to do it! And people say the CB is bad!

I read the first 3 pages as well as the last page. Sure, it was a heated debate, but I didn't see anyone flaming the OP. I didn't even think people's comments were directed at the OP, just the topic. Of course, I didn't read all those pages in the middle.

Faralpeg, you have nothing to be worried about. As far as I could tell, I think everyone still likes you! :thumbsup2

Glad I could be of help! I think it is time for bed.

Goodnight! :)

Since I hadn't read your thread on the other forum, I hadn't understood why the poster backed off so quickly from the thread they they tried to start here, but once I read the other I understood. I didn't pay much attention at the time--hopefully it wasn't a new poster--that kind of thing can really scare the pants off a new poster. ;)

Someone started one over here with the same topic? I have got to stop sleeping at night! Did that one get closed or just bumped back?

I know I've been on these boards forever, but I don't usually find myself in this situation.

I started a stupid thread on the Theme Park boards. I wasn't thinking at the time, because I never dreamed it would turn into such a nasty thread.

I'd like it closed. I changed the title of the thread asking the mods to close it. I PM a mod asking that it be closed and I emailed another mod. Nothing.

What am I doing wrong. I promise to be less controversial in the future!!!!

I saw it too.

Lo siento mucho amiga, yo tambien hablo español.

I feel the same way. Threads like that let me know which DISers I DON"T want to run into while on vacation. :sad2:

Can we name names? JK. I can think of a few...

That reminds me of something ugly I saw happen at Fantasmic.

We were sitting near the back behind a family that you could tell was from the south. (the accent being a dead giveaway :teeth: ) Anyway, the father was a real somethingorother that I won't say here -- okay, to put it mildly, he was something of a redneck. His neck was actually red!

A while before the show started, this mother and her two boys slid in on the other side of the redneck family. There was plenty of room, as we were all near the back of the bleachers. The mother sat in the middle of the two boys -- one was around 10 and the other one was a young teen, maybe 13-15. The oldest boy sat near the redneck mom (I'm just using redneck as a description at this point). The boys were all smiles and happy to be there. The oldest boy leaned over to speak to his mom in *gasp* Spanish. You would have thought he pinched the redneck mom's butt, she was so offended!

She leaned over and told her husband (she was a foot in front of me, so I heard the whole exchange), who insisted on changing seats with her, so he made a big show of "protecting" his wife from that teenage boy. :sad2: For about 15 minutes before the show started, he kept huffing and puffing and glaring at that poor kid. You could tell, it really put a damper on the kid's experience, but he did eventually relax and enjoy the show. Redneck dad had himself so worked up that he barely watched the show and just sat there like a lump, glaring at the hispanic family.

I seriously wanted to kick that man. :furious:

Oh, I'm sorry that turnedd out that way. I read it for awhile, but it sort of turned into a political argument about illegal immigration and the frustrations associated with it, IMO. Most of the arguments had nothing to do with your original topic.

Thanks for always being our in the action informant!! Some of us appreciate it!

nativetxn overruled Pete. That was interesting.

Do people here really think that teachers in the U.S. should be required to speak Spanish to teach anywhere in the U.S? I just think that's wrong. My friend who has taught in FL had to learn Spanish, and she was an elementary teacher, not a language teacher.

I realize it urned into something else, but any post with the assumption that people who speak Spanish are going to have an accent or look different should be challenged.

Not a newbie, that would me! I saw an article in the Orlando Sentinel and thought it was pretty cool so I posted it here. Someone posted about the other thread so I deleted mine, I figured one thread on that subject was enough, given the direction the other one was taking at the time.

Not required, but certainly in their best interest. Many will speak at least two languages and be more qualified to teach, especially in FL.

It's also simply a great personal advantage. When two Spanish speaking people assume you don't know Spanish and start talking about you, it's always nice when you can respond right back in the same language. :sunny:

I once started a thread with a single question that digressed into an attack on my personal ethics. The Mods refused to lock it at my request.

What can I tell you? Just because people are interested in WDW doesn't mean that they are nice.
