AWESOME!!! We were at AK on Thursday 2/2 and while we were waiting for the park to open, some guy walks up to my DS and says "you look like a coaster guy, Expedition Everest is going to be open today at 10am."
So we hit Dinosaur quick (walk-on, yay!) and then headed over. It wasn't crowed yet...said a 5 min wait, but we walked (well, kinda ran) straight thru the queue & got right on. It was incredible. The yeti is cool, but didn't look as big as I expected. DS closed his eyes whenever we were inside the mountain, so he missed the yeti.
We were going to ride it again after Kali & the jungle walk, but it was shut down. I guess it broke down & the people on the ride had to walk down the mountain.
So, I only got to ride once, but I was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO happy. It really made my vacation!
I just got back last night. Any other Disers get to ride?
DH & I got to ride it 4 times in a row last week. TOTALLY AWESOME and my new favorite ride.
It is worth trying to get the front seat. It is so cool when you get up to the part where the track is all ripped up and you can see over and down to the trees and see the hawk that circles. Very very cool.
The CM's seemed just as excited as the guests. Everyone in the ride clapped and cheered at the end of every ride too!
d4est, I was there the same day as you ! walked right on two times! the ride did open back up later in the day so we were able to ride it again ! my family and I loved it !!!
We rode Thurs., 1/26, during sneak peek 1/26-1/29 for AP/DVC members. It was awesome. No wait, rode twice in a row....heard the line was out to Asia on Sat & Sun preview though. Check out disneyeverest.com

I am sooooo sad that we missed a second chance. DS said he would keep his eyes open on "the next ride." Oh well. Getting to ride was my ultimate wish for the week. I actually had goose bumps when the guy told my son it would be open. Then, Buzz opened early. Felt like a very lucky week, except for the rain on Friday.

We were soo surprised to see Buzz opened up !! I thought this week was a wonderful time to go, even if it was a bit rainy & cold at times ! walking on the rides with no wait was the BEST !
OK - I had just worked up my courage to try this out next month (if it is open, of course) and then I read "it broke down and people had to walk down the mountain"!!! That would NOT be good!
DB and I got to ride it 8 times during the passholder preview weekend.
You have got to remember that "soft opening" means that Disney will be tweeking and testing. Testing means that, including the emergency evacuation procedures. That "walk out of the mountain breakdown" just might have been an evacuation test.
Have to agree with others, this ride is the best! We rode it twice on Monday, Feb 6. Once as soon as the park opened, very little wait. And got a FP when we exited to return about 1 1/2 hours later.
It is so cool. Can't wait to take family to ride it in Nov.

Maybe it was just a "line" we were given, but that is what the CMs out front told us when we returned to ride it a second time and the doors to the queue were closed.
