I remember...

I remember parking in the Disneyland Parking Lot, and not the Parking Structure. And the parking entrance was on Harbor Blvd.

I remember that!!! My first trip the parking lot was where DCA is now. :)

- When churros were a $1
- Michael Jackson's 3D "ride"
- The submarine ride before Nemo

keep it going, should be interesting to show how old we are.

I remember the subs and Captain EO.

I remember when the Electrical Parade was the Main Street Electrical Parade.

First time I saw the EP was my first trip, DL only, no DCA. I still love the EP! :lovestruc

YES! I have a picture of my grandmother standing in front of the Chicken of the Sea ship..
and I second your thanks to Walt....

I 3rd it!! I was 21 my first trip to DL, it was a quick day or two, we used old WDW no expiration passes to get in. My next trip was years later, DD9 was a baby, she didn't go with us, she stayed at Gma's in Oceanside while my ex and I took the 2 older girls, DD13 was 4, DD21 was 12, we got 2 day tickets, still no DCA, just DL. DCA construction was annouced a couple years later IIRC. Let's see, we didn't get back until April 06, we had a GREAT time, so much so that we went back July 07 and upgraded to APs at that time. So for me the memories aren't as old school as some, but it doesn't matter, the memories are still magical. :)

Oh, here's one, I remember the old school character meals!! My first trip we did one, we went to a CS place and got a prepacked breakfast at the counter and sat down at the tables (think Coke Corner tables and the ready packed fruit plates at RBT, but they also had eggs and pancakes that way I think.....) then the characters came around to see you. I remember Mickey was there but honestly I don't remember where it was.....

Let's see, I remember...

In DL:
When the Old Hag acutally had an apple in her hand & not a hologram (she scared me so much)
When Ursula dominated the stage in Fantasmic (she scared me too)
Watching the Disney version of the Nutcracker @ the Fantasyland Theatre (the Rat King was so scary)
When everyone started dancing @ the end of Captain EO after defeating that creepy spider looking lady (why does Disney have so many scary things?)
Seeing the abomidable snowman on the Skyway (hi Harold!)
Being too scared to go on the Astro Jets bc they were too high
When the Sleeping Beauty Castle walkthough had scary looking dolls
When Delta Airlines hosted CircleVision
Seeing the CircleVision lobby from the People Mover
The Monorail Cafe & having a placemat where you had to find Mickey (like Where's Waldo)
The old Goofy's Kitchen w/ characters on the wall & Stromboli's, where GK's is now
When the atmosphere character Capt. Hook didn't smile (why is he now?)
When you didn't have to be @ least 5' to ride in the front of Splash Mt. (apparently you do now since a CM didn't let my little cousin ride in the front)
When the park would close early a lot (on the weekends) for private parties (they were so fun)
Mickey's Halloween Treat in 1995 & the candy being held in a cauldron (my bf Prince Phillip was also there :lovestruc)
The DL Marathon (not half) & meeting Indy for the 1st time
My friend's mom loosing her car in the huge parking lot
Waiting for the light blue & beige tram to make it's stops in the parking lot

In DCA (hey, they might be the newest, but they have an evolving history too):
Eating @ the ABC Bistro
Riding Superstar Limo (the agent was creepy, but everything else was cool)
ABC Primetime Weekends (I saw John Ritter there weeks before he passed away :sad1:)
When they had X Games pros come & seeing ramps on the Golden State stage
Being there the same day as when the 5th Dimension was to perform (I wish I stuck around to see them, I love Aquarius)
Watching the Hyperion's 1st Show Steps in Time w/ kids in a bed & an eccentric fairy godmother

Then when my own kids were little, we'd go to the shop on main street where they took your familie's picture then super imposed Disney-esque stuff around it..like early photoshop..then you picked it up later in the day.

We have one of these pictures too! That was probably mid-to-late 80's?

Others that I remember:
* The Skyway Buckets
* When the Electrical Parade was actually on Main Street
* The Hunchback & Pocahontas stage shows
* The original Castle walk-through
* Being there opening week of Splash (that line took forever! :lmao:)
* Cruising on the People Mover
* Loving the Country Bear Jamboree
* Watching Captain E-O
* Seeing Ducktales and the Gummi Bears in a parade
* The Subs before Nemo
* The Swiss Family Treehouse
* The Mike Fink Keelboats

I miss the Peoplemover :(
Isn't there a rumor they are redoing Swiss Family Robinson? Maybe they'll bring back the PROPER Treehouse!
I remember they used to have a REAL early entry thing..it was part of a package and included breakfast at Tomorrowland Terrace. You could ride rides like crazy, and then right when the park opened go get your breakfast, nice one too! And some characters would walk around. We were there on one of thse packages when Indy opened and we went round and round..rode it 4 times in a row...what fun.

I remember that too! They had it the first time we went in 97. You'd get a nice bfast at Tomorrowland Terrace and there would be a few characters mingling with guests.
Now THAT was the way to do "Early Entry"!:lovestruc

Lots of good ones!

I remember always getting a big Welch's grape juice from their stand. I can't remember where it was...somewhere near Coke Corner?

My favorite ride when I was a kid: The Flying Saucers

Having teryaki chicken and coconut cake while watching the live show at the Tahitian Terrace

Riding the vehicles on Main St. because that was about all you could do with those particular tickets (A?)

Partying at the Neon Cactus once (at the old DLH)

Staying in a cabana room next to the Oriental Garden at DLH

Paddle boats on the "lake" at DLH and wondering how on earth they managed to get so much dye in the water :lmao:

Carousel of Progress

Walking from the Magic Lantern Motel across Katella and directly into the DL parking lot entrance

Wearing a dress, stiff petticoat and gloves to DL

Wearing white pedal pushers and a striped "surfer" t-shirt to DL

Wearing a bell-bottom suit to DL

Wearing a sundress to DL

Wearing jeans to DL

Wearing sweats to DL

My memories include:

* Riding the mules. I used to really look forward to that
* Train through Nature's Wonderland
* The Frito Restaurant
* The Matterhorn with two holes for the baskets
* The Matterhorn bobsleds ride being so much lighter and you could look up and see the baskets above you
* Carousel of Progress
* Golden Horseshoe Saloon show (I used to love that show)
* When Pirates of the Caribbean opened and the first time riding on it. The ride convinced me it was dark already & I was surprised it was still daylight outside
* Skull Rock
* The anniversary where you would win a prize everytime you went to Disneyland. I won plenty of ice cream bars, and once won a free trip to Disneyland (I think that was the 30th)
* Dancing with Mary Poppins in front of it's a Small World
* Disneyland without Toontown
* Going on the Peoplemover and looking down on the Tomorrowland attractions. I used to think that was so cool, and then they had Tron, then they went to a speedway type room
* Party Gras Parade, Lion King Celebration, & the Hercules & Mulan parades
* Riding the monorail to the DL Hotel, but never getting off
* Tahitian Terrace when the hula girl came out from the waterfall

Oh I remember the early entry days too, with the breakfast at Tomorrowland Terrace and riding a bunch of rides over and over! That was alot of fun, early entry is not as fun anymore. It was something about the breakfast, even the kids breakfasts came on a Mickey shaped plate too I remember. I remember the Rocket Rods totally, watching them test them forever, and then finally getting to ride them over and over but the line was always way over 90 minutes, but it was so worth it!! Oh the days..... It still is fun, but just so much more fun as a child, and now watching my DD4 is fun all over again :yay:

I remember staying at the "Grand" hotel. NOT THE GCH! The one that used to be across from the park. I also remember riding the skyway and being scared of the yeti!

I remember...

Dinner & a show at the Tahitian Terrace...it was the perfect thing to do after watching the Tiki Room show & riding the Jungle Cruise! If I could bring back one thing at Disneyland that's no longer there, Tahitian Terrace would be it!

Adventure Thru Inner Space....I thought I was *really* shrinking! I liked how it was always cold in there, and the musty smell. (weird, I know)

Tomorrowland in the 80s...it was my favorite place, EVER! There was the Peoplemover (with the TRON tunnel), the Captain EO movie (made my parents stand in line for 4 hours to see it the week it came out!), the Skyway to Fantasyland, Star Tours (when it was new), the phone booths that the whole family could sit in & talk on the phone, America Sings (cute show; it was always the last ride of the night on family trips when I was little), Space Mountain (when it still had the escalator ramp at the front & a restaurant at the unload area outside), the Rocket Jets (when they were up high atop the Peoplemover station), Circlevision (which my mom refused to take me into because it made her motion sick), and Mission to Mars (which caused me to have a meltdown at the age of 5 when I thought we were really leaving planet Earth :rotfl2:).

I also remember all the little shops that used to be at the Disneyland Hotel, where the Monorail station was. The toy shop was the best...I still have the giant stuffed Mickey that I got there on my first visit!

OMG SpaceMermaid! I remember all of those things too!!
How funny...I always remind my kids of what thy missed!!:goodvibes

I loved visiting that toy shop! I had no idea why so many of those rooms in the shopping area was empty though. I always thought that was weird.

I remember when there was a magic shop on main street. My brother and I always loved it! On our last trip my mom asked "didnt this used to be a magic shop?" to which the young man behind the counter said "Yeah, back in the dawn of the dinosaurs". Needless to say, she was slightly offended and said "Gee thanks a lot. When did it go, 5, 10 years ago?" Wanna know what he said? "About 2 months ago". :rotfl:

She was not too happy when we left. But I had a good laugh about it.:lmao:

Yeah, it was the best! Besides the must-have Disney character toys, they also sold Sanrio/Hello Kitty toys back before they were "everywhere"! There were alot of empty stores, though.

I remember "New Edition" in concert where Fantasmic! is now.

I also remember the under water arcade at Disneyland Hotel and Dancing Waters.

Casa de Fritos
Mine Train
Pack Mules
